With RTJ out, I wonder who they're gonna replace them with. Fiona Apple maybe? Or they'll have a fresh set of headliners?
I'm going to guess that it's pretty likely The National stay on since they're playing Primavera next year but who knows about the rest.
edit: looks like the rest of the Primavera 2021/Pitchfork 2020 crossover would be Kim Gordon, Jehnny Beth, Caroline Polachek, Rapsody, Faye Webster, and Mariah the Scientist for those curious.

I thought about YYYs - The National - Fiona, but it would be too same-y. I wouldn't complain if they just replaced The National with Fiona, and book some legend act (something better than The Isley Brothers lol) as a replacement for RTJ.
YYY’s are an easy return cause they have nothing else going on at all. The National hopefully does a High Violet set to make it a bigger draw. Then theres just a matter of finding a reputable act that appeals to the demographic.
If theyre looking at a “legacy” act, I mean who do you want. I think the slam dunk is David Byrne. Just depends if he gets a break from the broadway run. They gonna roll out Herbie Hancock and call it a day if they stick to being chicago centric? I thought Common would be a decent 2nd or 3rd billed act if they went local. They cant get Lupe Fiasco now cause of Riot.
I was actually thinking about this at work the other day so I was drafting a list of other possible legacy acts that could play Pitchfork that haven't played before. While making this list, I was trying to stretch the definition of "legacy" as much as possible; some of these acts are also clearly more likely than others to be booked for a variety of reasons. My main requirement was that if they've recently played Chicago, they must've played theater/casino sized venues. Here's what I came up with all the same. An asterisk indicates a possible sub:
50 Cent Al Green Chic * Earth, Wind, & Fire Hole (yes, I am aware of the existence of Riot Fest!) Ice Cube (😬) My Bloody Valentine New Order Pet Shop Boys * Primal Scream * Queen Latifah * The Revolution (probably more like a 3rd down on their day) Smokey Robinson * Snoop Dogg Spiritualized * Underworld * Various indie rock reunions that are highly unlikely to happen anytime soon (Pulp, Blur, Sonic Youth, Pavement, etc) I also had Lenny Kravitz on this list but somehow that felt too uncool for Pitchfork. Maybe not!
Kraftwerk would be the other if you went electronic. I mean it could be possible if they can somehow get them out of playing that chicago solo show, since the routing was so spot on for them to show up. And yeah, Grace Jones would be pretty badass. She blew the doors off at FYF and even James Murphy admitted that they were gonna be a let down after following her. And then Portishead or Massive Attack.

Between Run the Jewels, Jehnny Beth, and Phoebe Bridgers, I've had 3 straight weeks of really digging a new album and then being like "oh shit, would've loved to have seen those songs at Pitchfork this summer"

I'm still pessimistic about festival season resuming at all this year, but if this new administration can work some miracles, I'll be there. I had some disappointing plans canned last year, as did everyone, but Pitchfork was probably my biggest loss. Hadn't been back to Chicago in a decade, and one of the friends I was gonna visit had been in and out of the hospital a lot. She was in again recently, and we almost lost her this time.
Anyone else there that's Pitchfork approved that would make sense to come over? Jamie xx? Is Little Simz Pitchfork approved?
Fourtet, John Hopkins and Slowthai also. They like Disclosure too but it would have to be headlining and Pitchfork able to afford it which at this point they couldnt.
I feel that they can get 90% of the line up back since they didnt have too many foreign acts. Just put in St Vincent for RTJ and nobody would blink an eye on the top of the bill.
