All the leather helmet and mad-white fans will hate this. Haha. As a Florida State fan, I like Jameis anyway though admittedly he has had his fair share of indiscretions (minor and serious).
With the lasek done and vision fixed, what's the harm in bringing him in for a year ala Teddy Bridgewater in the event Brees gets knocked out for a few games again? It boils down to the options we have:
Jameis Winston Cam Newton Joe Flacco Blake Bortles
In my opinion, cross off Flacco and Bortles immediately. That leaves Newton or Winston. I'll take Jameis. This doesn't set the future. It's either going to be Taysom Hill, another vet we bring in next year (including Jameis if his corrective eye surgery makes an appreciable difference in his TD/Int ratio) or we will have to draft someone and sacrifice a couple years to a learning curve.
And just like that Hill gets the one year extension of his free agent tender. So he is under contract through 2021. Deal is 2 years 21 million with 16MM guaranteed and another 1MM in incentives.

absolute trash contract lol
Jameis and that dude they drafted are fine. hill just got away with robbery.

Looks to me like it’s a one year trial deal for next season. If he doesn’t pan out cool. No harm no foul. You all will be paying close to triple that amount.

You have to think Watson is going to get somewhere in the neighborhood of $28-31MM. Hill will be at $10.5. I’m not trying to compare their abilities at all. Hill is unproven. I’m talking about the contract (which was your point) and the salary cap. Hill makes out good for 2020 though.

I like it as a football move, I just don't like it as a guy who owns Cooper, Zeke, and 1.06 this year on my most important dynasty team.
Jameis is coming get his Harvard education on a scholarship that only cost us $1.1MM

Excited for you as a Saints fan, that is an incredible steal. In what will surely be a down year for the Patriots, I will be pulling for the Saints to get Brees one more ring.
Jameis is now the 33rd highest paid Saints player and he 50th highest paid NFL quarterback. Behind studs like DeShone Kizer, Jeff Driskel, Nathan Peterman, AJ McCarron, and Matt Schaub.

In a smart move by Winston, I saw reports that he turned down higher paid offers with other teams in order to work with Payton and Brees. Bridgewater getting money must have made an impression.
Yeah. I thought we'd pay him $4-5MM a year. And he'll probably get at least $3MM with the incentives (assuming workout bonus, roster bonus and other easily achievable marks are part of the contract). Teddy getting the $21/year deal for 3 years was pretty sweet for him. He showed there was a path forward for a QB to restart their career. I also know that the way they structured Taysom Hill's contract meant that he still only counts the same $4.4 MM that he was scheduled to make from the first round tender. It's like we did something we didn't have to do to reward him as a player when we could have just said fuck it, play for that $4.4. FWIW, ESPN has allowed him to be a flex designee this upcoming fantasy season instead of forcing him to be a QB. I don't know that he scores all that many fantasy points because I didn't follow him that way.
What all this tells me is that it's almost certain Brees will retire after this year. Hill will be under contract, and either he is the guy going forward or we'll do something with Jameis (or possibly Stafford or someone else hitting the F.A. market next year) and if so, possibly allow Jameis and Taysom to compete for the starting QB job during camp and in regular season practices this season. What it turns out is that our QB room has about a $31MM cap in total. Brees took the discount to give it one more chance, so we're able to hold down the costs there and focus on a couple more puzzle pieces and our draft picks. Stevens (the 4th QB) will likely be stashed on our practice squad for a year. If Hill leaves later, he takes the "slash" role if he's capable.

Are there any hardcore fantasy football players here? I'm talking I have 9 leagues and I'm trying to start a 10th that will be crazy - 16 teams, auction dispersal, contracts, wild free agency, IDP, rookie drafts, and the next bridge for me to cross - devy (college players rostered).
If you are interested let me know. I need to get serious about forming this now.
This is an awesome highlight reel of my favorite player. It's long and it's chronological, so it'll be a min before you hit the real highlights but the progression is important. From cut QB to special teams stud to gadget play guy to the fourth down guy to just the guy who makes huge plays and scores a lot. He does everything
Bengals releasing Dalton. Him and Newton are two big sized names to be floating around for someone who needs a qb.
I feel like Dalton is about to enter the vet journeyman role. SD seems like a decent spot, start a few games while Herbert learns.
I still think cam could be special, I think he's better than teddy, foles, minshew, darnold, stidham/hoyer, but I also get those guys want to tank.
I have always had the feeling Dalton is better than he has been able to show so far in Cincinnati. I admit I am biased though because I have always thought Lewis was a trash coach. Not trying to say that Dalton is going to challenge for best in the league or even the top tier, but I think he's a solid starter.
Edit: Am I the only one who thinks Herbert is not going to be good? I recognize that I might be missing something. Saw several Oregon games and do not see what made him a top 10 pick.

Coming from a Bengals fan, Dalton didn't deserve half of the criticism he received. His reputation of sucking in prime-time/postseason was true, however, people forget he led us to 5 straight postseasons...all that with Marv as the coach. That was for the same franchise that had made 2 postseasons in the last 20 years before drafting Dalton.
2015 was a shame...we were 10-2, offense was averaging 30 points a game, Dalton was in the MVP conversation, and it looked pretty certain we were going to have a 1st round bye. Then Dalton hurts his thumb against the Steelers in the 1st quarter, out for the season, we go on to lose the game and the following week against the Broncos - and we end up on the wrong side of a tie-breaker for a 1st round bye to the Pats. Everybody knows how the Steelers wild card game went...but people forget Dalton didn't even play in that game. That year felt different before Dalton hurt his thumb.
Dalton is a quality game manager. If he has a good team around him he can be successful. I know Pats fans and the media would knock them if they signed Dalton to be the starter this year - but I think they would win more games than expected. Don't see him being successful if signed by the Jags - he not a make things happen on his own type of QB.

All that being said, I am excited for the Bengals future. Many consider Burrow to be the best QB prospect coming into an NFL draft since Luck. Have a young, offensive minded coach. We spent the most in FA this offseason then Mike Brown ever has since I have been old enough to follow football. Drafted a weapon in Higgins for Burrow to grow with at the top of the 2nd round. We drafted the 1st offensive lineman to go in the draft last year (Jonah Williams), he had a season ending injury in training camp last year. All reports since the new year is he has recovered nicely and ready to go.
Not expecting to go from 1st pick in the draft to postseason within 12 months or anything - but better days ahead.

I wouldn't mind the Pats bringing in Dalton. I think Dalton has had great flashes and with a good system he could be really solid. The problem I find with it is I would've just rather paid Brady

I don't think I'd spend money on it but I'd be interested in playing it

Part of me wouldn't mind bringing in Dalton, but I also think that undercuts any potential Stidham might have to be successful.
If the Pats didn't draft a QB, it's likely Stidham is the man and I'd like to see what he can do.
