Rumor has it my university is switching to online classes after spring break. This is such an overreaction oh my god
Do you go to SDSU? I work there and we got an email that said this yesterday. Honestly I'm mad they're not enforcing it sooner. Our break is still 3 weeks away!
blah I won tickets to kamasi for tonight, now im all antsy its going to be cancelled or whether i should go at all. hopefully there's just like 12 people there and we just get saxed in the face.
while most college sporting events are being held without fans, The Big East has announced they are planning on holding their basketball tournament(s) as planned
This was inevitable. But if between this or cancelling completely, I'm ok with it.
Same! Most people watch it on tv anyway, so.....doesn't seem that bad?
For most people it's not going to be that noticeable a difference. The one's to feel sorry for are the hourly workers who now just lost all that pay working the arenas, or say the students of the small school who just made the tournament for the first time in a while and planned to go to support.

University of Tennessee is suspending in person classes starting March 23. They're on Spring Break next week. It is initially lasting 7-10 days depending on the campus and will be reevaluated to see if it needs to be extended.
At the university I serve a professor was saying that while they haven't officially moved online for the rest of the semester, they're absolutely acting like that's gonna be the case. The great part is that they're not making the students move off campus because they don't want to have to reimburse them. I'm a ways removed from being college-aged but I'm excited for them at the prospect of having a couple months without having to go to class and not having to live home with parents either. Aside from the deadly plague and all that's a pretty sweet deal.
Since I planned on going all-in on volunteering for Bernie this Spring, I only had one show on my schedule - which is Brian Fallon about two weeks from now. After that I was clear all the way to Firefly. Thankfully I picked a festival this year that's within driving distance.
I also happened to see that the soccer team in Hartford postponed their first two home games of the year. Was hoping to go to the home opener, but that'll have to wait a few more weeks.

I was thinking that would've been ideal. Plus all of the alcohol should kill off the virus. (That's how that works, right, Druid?)

There's a University in Ohio that had to call in police that were shooting pepper/mace balls or something because all the students were gathering together after the school told them they had to leave their dorms within 24 hours and classes were being cancelled (or online? Not sure).
Which, at first glance, seems cool and like "Awesome! No classes!" but the reason all the students were gathering/protesting this was because for a lot of people who don't live in the area and don't have travel plans lined up to get home it was essentially going to make them homeless until they could find a way home or someone to stay with.
Things are going to get worse before they get better. Seems to be the theme for these past few years.

Knowing him he'll bail out hotels (Trump Hotels), and travel industry stuff. Will then make big promises that are impossible to keep ("Everyone will get a cure" when one isn't even close to existing) and maybe throw in a jab about Obama or Pelosi.
