I couldn’t help myself and browsed the Covid thread on the reddit lollapalooza board. We are only a week out, but the results are very encouraging. Bonnaroo needs to step up and implement the same safety measures. Today.
Yeah, despite being a small sample size its helpful to see not too many positives. I would hope with a lot of people getting the festival flu that they will think its covid and get tested. So for better or worse you can thank the dust for making people feel paranoid.

They 100% should, but every day that goes by without an announcement increases my worry that they won't. I really don't understand what the hold-up is if they've actually made the decision to implement that kind of policy.
Chicago twisted Lolla's arm to allow it to happen with the requirements. Tennessee could care less, but maybe they will if its a super spreader. Its still a YMMV on how LN will put requirements in. They didnt at Rolling Loud and HARD cause the local government didnt give a shit.

When Bottlerock announced their covid protocols it was already too late to get the Moderna shot. here are some relevant dates wrt to Bottlerock which is the same weekend as Bonnaroo:
When is my last chance receive the vaccine? We strongly encourage all guests be fully vaccinated against Covid-19. In order to be fully vaccinated in time for BottleRock, you’ll need to have received your last Moderna or Pfizer (or single Johnson & Johnson) dose by August 20th.
If you are not yet vaccinated, either the Pfizer or Johnson & Johnson vaccine can be completed in time for the fest! To do that, please receive your first dose of Pfizer no later than August 6th or your single dose of Johnson + Johnson no later than August 20th.
If these places start requiring vaccine OR negative tests, do you think we could start running out of tests again?
I'm to a point now where I don't think anyone should be allowed to do anything without the shot (if you qualify for it). You've had plenty of time and it's free. I'd even ask for covid vaccination records before we admit you to the hospital, but I'm just an asshole.

I think the holdup is Tennessee republicans. They are probably threatening permits and whatnot if they require.
It makes me so mad that these elected officials are doing everything in their power to NOT keep their constituents safe. It's fucking disgusting.
I wonder about the political holdup thing. Like, I get it - these people are the absolute worst. But wouldn't it hurt TN and the localities pretty badly from a financial standpoint to not have Bonnaroo taking place there every year? I guess it's kind of a test of whether these assholes would cut their own economic noses off that hardcore to spite their own ideological faces. Ugh.
So uhh just took a rapid test and i am positive, got pfizered up back in jan/feb. In good spirits but ive lost my sense of taste and smell and im congested w a bad sinus headache so that blows

Shitttt, that sucks. I hope your symptoms improve soon.

Yea that blows but from the sound of it (and hopefully it will stay that way) you'll be able to truck through it after a few days/week and be fine.
thank ya, my guess is just some random bar in boston since i havent been wearing my mask like a dummy. I'm not too worried though, im 23 and in good health. i just hope i didnt give it to any of the kids i work with
ATTENTION JASON ISBELL AND THE 400 UNIT ATTENDEES: At the request of the artist, there are updated health and safety requirements for all attending the shows August 7-9, 2021. Masks are required for entry; all attendees of these events must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or have tested negative for COVID-19 within 72 hours of attending the events. See below for more details, or visit the event’s page acl-live.com.
First show I know of in Austin to require vaccination status. If they are allowing testing negative to get in, I see every major venue in Texas following suit.

Friend had trouble finding a rapid test today but I think the Vikings are just hording them for Kirk cousins
I had to order rapid tests from 4 different places (with many cancelled orders along the way) just to cobble together enough for a dozen people for our birthday party next weekend.
I bet demand sharply rose once Delta proved to be a serious threat for vaccinated people combined with offices and schools opening back up.
I didn’t see this article when it came out yesterday, so maybe it was already posted. 2,200 people in Catalonia got Covid from 3 festivals (Vida, Canet Rock and Cruilla) which all happened in early July. I never heard of any of them but it says +/- 50,000. That returns a 4% infection rate among attendees which isn’t terrible but higher than expected. Where it may not be apples to apples with the US/Lolla due to delayed vaccines in the EU, Catalonia is pretty highly vaccinated (attendees though, ?)

Kind of a weird one, though - there was no vax requirement so no way of knowing how many people were vaccinated before or afterwards. They only had to take a rapid antigen test beforehand and wear masks the entire time and then were retested two weeks afterwards. So not a lot of controls in between and if you really want to freak yourself out you could also tell yourself the study shows that masks don’t work lol
Edit: so in other words while “there as a 4% infection rate of attendees” is an accurate statement, it really doesn’t tell us anything about *why* that happened, or at least anything that would meaningfully apply here
Right. There are some holes in a comparison with a US festival. Most recent data/article I could find was that Catalonia had a pretty high vax rate. But you know people come from elsewhere to attend festivals. Like Jes, I’m not enamored with the 4% infection rate. Makes it more iffy than <1% for sure. Bonnaroo will not have a mask requirement though. So to the extent masks helped, and they had to at some level, we won’t be getting that added protection. I really hope we get something more definitive than reddit threads out of Rolling Loud and particularly Lolla. As of today, I still plan to go to Bonnaroo and mostly stay along the perimeters. Since i smoke cigarettes, I generally try to do that anyway so I’m not choking neighbors with tobacco smoke. But I’m definitely not at 100% that I’m going to use my ticket. I feel like I’ll probably be masked up in crowds and bathrooms.

They mightve found a loophole by stating the artist is requesting this. Im assuming there is a general safety clause in a contract that would allow the performer to enact any other measures and such?

Likely so. They can't outlaw companies such as Google and Facebook from mandating vaccination in offices in Texas since their place of business is elsewhere. If an artist coming to town requires it, it could be out of their control.

Damn. I don’t like those odds, personally. Thanks for sharing, all the same.
I'm really curious for more details about this study. Was the endpoint just "by 15 days post-festival, how many people had tested positive?" Did they control for what people had done in the intervening 15 days between the end of the festivals and the study's final date? Did they have some way to confirm that people had become infected *at* the festival, instead of on the way to/from, or out at bars and clubs, or whatever else?
Maybe they did, but the Newsweek article doesn't have any of that information and I feel like that's kind of a ball drop on their part.

Walgreens (two stores lol) and Amazon and Walmart.
Just saw Green Day/Weezer/Interrupters at Citi Field (I was also looking forward to Fall Out Boy, feel ripped off that there weren't partial refunds offered). I've been trying to find a TL:DR mask recommendation at shows but keep getting conflicting information. Are masks strongly recommended in large crowds OUTDOORS as well as indoors? I didn't keep my mask on when I was in the GA section but put it on when I was walking through the crowded concessions area. Keep going back and forth on what the best etiquette would be.

If it is crowded outdoors, put on the mask. Cloth masks I buy from Vieux for cooler temps, surgical paper masks when it’s hot AF and I’m going to sweat.
Vieux are you selling any masks that have plain colors or neutral patterns? I’m looking into getting another non-surgical mask for shows that are having mask requirements but don’t want something with too busy of a pattern
