It's kinda hilarious to need to be edgy so badly that you're willing to sacrifice you're ability to do fun things like go to concerts, restaurants, movies, travel, etc. for no reason.
Lmao so being less sick (or not sick at all) and reducing the chances of spreading it just didn't sound appealing
exactly--why reduce your chances at serious illness or death (and at spreading that TO OTHERS) when instead you can be #alt and #goagainstthegrain to reject the vaccine?!?
Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.
Come on; there has to be more of an answer than that. That's a child's rationale. There are a lot of things we all don't want to do, but do, because they're for either our own good, or society's.

Stick it to the man by not only depriving yourself of protection from getting severely ill and the ability to do fun things safely but also get the added bonus of contributing to the deaths of the elderly, kids getting sick, the collapse of the hospital system resulting in cancer patients having surgeries postponed, massive strain on basic services like water treatment and 911/emergency services. But wait there's more!

I am slightly immunocompromised so I reached out to my doctor today about getting a booster and he said "absolutely." So I'm going this evening. I've heard the third can be a real bitch. Really hoping the side effects wear off before Wednesday night...
ngl, this sorta reminds me of when a toddler throws a fit about having to take a nap or eat their veggies or hand over their toy to share on the playground.
"BUT I DONT WANNNNNA"
unfortunately, unlike with toddlers where parents can pretty much enforce some basic decency rules/pull that toy out of their hands/etc., there are all these goddamn grown ass folks walking around with this dimwitted attitude against getting vaccinated who feel entitled to their conscious endangerment of society.

truevine is the reason my mother is happy to retire an entire year earlier.
I have a neurological disorder called epilepsy.. there are no studies about what happens when we end up with covid. What I will tell you is that the time in March that I might have had covid and started damn near hallucinating while trying to teach a class..... yeah.. I have given up totally on you anti-science people.

Is the booster available now? I thought it wasn't until September 20th. I can't find anything saying that's changed
Come on; there has to be more of an answer than that. That's a child's rationale. There are a lot of things we all don't want to do, but do, because they're for either our own good, or society's.
Why don't you want it?
Principles I guess. I’m against systemic oppression and using executive gov power to make corporations profits. Nothing to do with the science or medical reasons.

We can't help you then. This is about science, medicine, and people's infrastructure JUST as much as governmental interaction. What do you want the gov't to be doing? Nothing? Laisse-faire system for medicine now? Literally do we have to go back to how long we dealt with measles and polio and attribute it to government being too strong? I just can't.

That’s the difference between me and you. I’m willing to sacrifice those things to not get the vax.

lmaooooo so you're *against* systemic oppression and thus refusing a vaccine that would help greatly reduce your risk of contracting AND spreading a virus that disproportionately has severely affected lower income folx, PoC, and people without health insurance?

If you're considered immunocompromised then yes. You have to prove to the clinic/pharmacy that you qualify. I have rheumatoid arthritis so the medications I take qualify me.

A couple of different ways to break this down:
1) The government has already purchased enough vaccine doses for literally everyone in America to get at least 3 doses. That's a sunk cost. Whether you choose to take it or not will have no impact on any corporation's bottom line.
2) The government also mandates seatbelts. Do you not wear seat belts because you're against systemic oppression? The government mandates that you buy car insurance. Do you not buy car insurance because you don't want Geico to make a profit thanks to government influence? The government mandates that you not walk around naked and that you not take a shit in the street. Do you avoid wearing clothes because you don't want the Gap to make money due to government mandates, or because you don't want to support Big Toilet? I could go on. If you're willing to adhere to these government mandates, and your objection to the vaccines is neither scientific nor medical, what makes this different?

pls make it make sense.
Nothing says “I’m against systemic oppression” like being an evangelical
I'm sure "systemic oppression" has been pivotal to his life, and he has stories about it that he can tell us...

Fwiw I don’t think any reasonable person thinks JOE BIDEN or any of the current dem leadership has anywhere near the spine to mandate a vaccine. All of these “mandates” that we’re talking about are for schools, travel, insurance, etc. I would hardly consider GV or your local restaurant saying that you can’t come in because of a higher health risk than what the unvaccinated crowd brings is government overreaching.
Also, there is an ABUNDANCE of proof that the vaccine is safe so why would anyone be upset. I’d get it if there wasn’t literal millions of people who have gotten it with no problems sans feeling crumby for a day.

Having a vaccine that's free and available to anyone is a fucking miracle. Sorry it couldn't happen in a totally utopian free market way? But that's America for you. I just don't get why you wouldn't take something that you believe works that would benefit you and others who come into contact with you.

Racial and ethnic minorities are the least vaccinated population. Requiring proof of vaccination to eat at a restaurant is literal systemic racism.
