It makes absolutely no sense to me, not a bit, that "big pharma" can profit more by giving people a vaccine as opposed to not giving people a vaccine and inevitably, millions of people end up critically ill and hospitalized needing to be hooked up to every "big pharma/hospital" life-saving machine imaginable and being pumped full of all kinds of drugs. In other words, the vaccine keeps people from being horribly sick, correct? The sicker people are, the more money a hospital and "big evil pharma" can make!
Who is costing society more right now? Those who are hospitalized for a month in an ICU? Or those, who got 2 little shots and are hopefully staying out of the hospital system needing medical care?
lmaooooo so you're *against* systemic oppression and thus refusing a vaccine that would help greatly reduce your risk of contracting AND spreading a virus that disproportionately has severely affected lower income folx, PoC, and people without health insurance?
pls make it make sense.
Racial and ethnic minorities are the least vaccinated population. Requiring proof of vaccination to eat at a restaurant is literal systemic racism.
are…you trying to go for the “I’m not going to get married until the gays can get married” argument but for vaccination?

Yeah this make sense but they still made 40+ billion off the vax and dozens of new billionaires were created. Also endless variants = boosters every year = unlimited profit. The iPhone model.
Julie I will say that if you are continuing to social distance, wear a mask, and not go out I appreciate that. I just think taking the extra precaution by getting vaccinated would be more of a net positive.
It’s also worth noting that something like 90% of LGBT people are vaccinated across racial lines - that’s also very clearly a response to the systemic oppression that gay people faced and still face as a result of HIV and I don’t think you need to be an ACT UP scholar to know that plenty of LGBT people were not exactly trusting of the FDA or big pharma in the 80s/90s

So how is it systematic racism for restaurants to require proof. It’s not costing you anything to get it. Anyone can get it.
They’re effectively creating a class of secondhand citizens.
The alleged secondhand citizens are choosing to be secondhand citizens. That's not oppression, that's the consequence of choosing to help keep Covid going. They could take the safe, free, plentiful vaccine and become "firsthand" citizens in your tale of oppression and woe.
I'm really sick of the talking point regarding vaccinations creating second class citizens in minorities. As a Latino person myself, I can say the reason vaccination rates are low for us is because a lack of education and understanding on the matter. But it's not for a lack of trying. At the beginning of the vaccination roll out, there was definitely some sense of prioritizing who gets the vaccine based on where they were being offered at. But not anymore. There's a huge outreach push to get people educated on the matter here in south Texas. There's just a lot of stubborn and arrogant people thinking it's not a big deal. I had to convince my parents to get it and a lot of other Latino friends I have had to do the same thing. It's also weird for the most liberal and diverse states to be asking for that in comparison to the more racist states (looking at you, Texas).

In NYC, I've worked a lot of gigs for the NYS Department of Health. I also live in a predominately Latino neighborhood of Brooklyn. It's a weird time. And obviously the black community that is near by has like lower numbers of vaccinated, and it's hard to persuade them out of an arrogance of medical education or favorable medical outcomes in the past. It's hard being science-oriented right now if you are in these communities. I think that's what makes me angrier today than I want to be.
And now I just looked at the data and Brooklyn is the least vaccinated borough. FUCK, we have hard headed motherfuckers here. edit: oh no, the Bronx is worse.. and that really tells you how bad this cross antigovernmental and anti-science sentiment is running

People want to make the argument that it's white Republican anti-vaxxers that are driving the numbers and although that is valid, the vaccine hesitancy among minorities is a real issue. And that's it, it's hesitancy, not that they hate vaccines. If you've gone so long feeling the government doesn't give a damn about you, you'll only feel the same way when said government is asking you to take a vaccine.
It's kinda hilarious to need to be edgy so badly that you're willing to sacrifice you're ability to do fun things like go to concerts, restaurants, movies, travel, etc. for no reason.
That’s the difference between me and you. I’m willing to sacrifice those things to not get the vax.
