Anyway, events need to have requirements for both vaccination and testing. I know that’s not gonna happen on a large scale, but if you’re already highly contagious before you even test positive, getting a negative test 72 hours before hand doesn’t mean shit. Especially if you’re the type of asshole who is unvaccinated and going out to concerts, cause you’re probably not making responsible decisions leading up to the event. And ya, there is a higher rate of breakthroughs now, so just being vaccinated doesn’t really cover it anymore either (whereas if everyone was vaccinated during Delta would have stopped the whole wave)
If the goal is to stop the spread of Omicron, I think a strict masking policy is more valuable than either the test or vaccine requirement. But if I am a promoter, what I want the most is the vaccine requirement to make sure no one dies at one of my shows and to take away that liability.

Haven’t been in this thread for a while, but I’ve been vaxxed three times now, and really hope it doesn’t turn into a proof of vax and negative test as the standard for seeing events. I know this sounds selfish, but I personally don’t have time to go to a clinic and get a clean test every two weeks when I want to see a show. It’s just going to result in me going to less shows, and that sucks for everyone. Continue to let people who have chosen not to be vaxxed for whatever reason go through the inconvenience of having to constantly show a negative test.
Until “true” breakthrough cases are actually clogging up the hospital beds this seems unnecessary to me. We also need to stop calling something breakthrough when it’s just someone that’s been vaxxed who has to go to the hospital. It’s no secret at this point that obesity and severe COVID symptoms are linked. Is it really a breakthrough if you’re 50+ and 150 pounds overweight and already possess zero lung capacity? I personally don’t think so because we all know the vaccine was never going to 100% protect us.
While I’m not a doctor and don’t personally see it first hand, multiple friends who are and deal with this on a daily basis have stated that this is predominantly what they’re seeing when it comes to “breakthrough” cases. In fact this has resulted in two of them, one a nurse practitioner and one a charge nurse changing their entire lifestyle and losing a ton of weight these past 6 months.
Regardless please go and get vaxxed, and do your part to help combat this. No it’s not going to 100% stop the spread, but you’re setting an example for others to follow. Be that your children, friends, or family. The more people that are vaxxed the easier it’s going to be for all of us down the line.

Heh, one day after I said this would be a convenient time as any to catch this damn thing, I might have finally gotten it. Woke up with what seem more like flu symptoms (stomach bug, aches, slight cough that isn't quite a dry cough), so I booked a combo covid/flu test for Friday just to cover all my bases. What angers me is that whatever this is, I know exactly how I got it and how I did everything to prevent it - by my family deliberately ignoring my request to do Christmas visits in shifts other than my dad/step-mom who live there. All the relatives still there when they said it's safe for me to come over. I was very unhappy and left after 2 hours as opposed to staying the rest of the day like I planned, and my dad reported similar symptoms, so they might be receiving some less-than-pleasant texts from me this week...
i feel like refunds or credit for the ticket should be given to those who test positive as well if thats adapted as a standard for entrance. it sucked having my breakthrough case and barely getting anything back for eric prydz or modest mouse
Ladyfriend's roommate tested positive today; she was with said roommate hours before hanging with me Sunday/Monday. Don't know if that's enough time for her to become infectious, but if so it might be my turn.
This shit is fucking wildfire. I'm in awe, honestly.
I know more people with COVID over the last few weeks than the entire past two years. But, nobody has been hospitalized compared to how many friends I had lost from it. I knew too many people who would catch it then quickly turn worse in a few days. Now, everyone has just been dealing with, what they call, an annoying sinus infection. I’m feeling optimistic despite the doomsday numbers coming out.
As someone who’s vaxxed and boosted, I can’t imagine having to deal with getting a rapid test EVERY time I go see a show. I go to 1-2 events a week and adding that cost plus hassle every time just seems absurd.

It takes 5-10 minutes. You probably wait that long for a drink.
And instead of saying all of your goodbyes - let them know you realize that life goes fast - It's hard to make the good things last-you realize the sun doesn't go down - It's just an illusion caused by the world spinning round
Add events doing the testing themselves on-site to the list of things that *should* be happening.
Ya there’s a venue in DC that has free rapid tests on show nights which should be the standard
How are the lines in DC? In concept it obviously makes sense, but you need the staffing to do it. Venues are doing that here in Phoenix but aren’t staffing up to make it an efficient experience. Had literally two people working a negative test site for a 2400 person sold out event mandating proof of negative test and it took me 1.5 hours to make it through the queue. Missed the first 1/3 of the show. Hence my comment earlier today.
I want people to be safe, but also realize that the added cost of properly staffing individuals for this process in addition to offering full refunds for anyone who tests positive is a tough pill to swallow for business owners in this market. Literally all the cost is being put on them in the short term, which will result in them shutting down or being built into future prices. Obviously I like most of you value health and safety over most things, but everyone has their limit. I’m obviously exaggerating this point, but I’m not sure i’d be willing to pay $75 to see someone like Soccer Mommy to ensure the business owner can operate at at profit with all of the added cost.

Definitely not an hour and a half. People had out the tests and point you to a place to go and take them.
Like I said before, I know testing requirements aren’t going to happen on a large scale for all the reasons people are mentioning, cost, staffing, etc. But just saying it’s the right answer.
Welp. It took two years, but Monie and I finally caught COVID. Presumably the Omicron variant. My cousin, who we were here visiting in Fiji for the holidays, has also tested positive. She works for the Australian embassy here, so her work has required her to submit an extremely thorough of everywhere she’s visited in the past week or so and at what date and times.
We’re dealing with our own headaches (in addition to actual COVID-induced migraines) in trying to file a claim with our travel insurance, extend our rental car booking (which is due back before we are released), reschedule our flights, etc. Oh and twice now, while stuck on hold with our insurance company (just now for over two hours), our call has randomly dropped. So that’s been fun.
Thankfully I pushed for us to get the highest level of travel insurance coverage, so when we do get through, we should get a decent payout - which will be very necessary. We are going to rack up well over a thousand dollars in room service charges alone because that’s literally our only food option available - and it’s a nice resort, so everything is very expensive. So glad we booked a fancy resort with a bunch of nice activities and restaurants we can’t enjoy.
I envy people who catch COVID at home and can just stay at home. This trip has been a bit of a nightmare in a few regards and I can’t help but feel that coming here was one big mistake. There have been nice parts, but it hasn’t exactly been the carefree, postcard-perfect image that is sold to tourists. Just our luck to visit a country with a 96% double vaccination rate and still catch COVID.

Agreed with all of this. I also don’t know how the logistics would even work with shows in metropolitan cities. Nearly all the venues here in SF are in dense areas downtown. Would they tent off an area to administer the tests? Definitely can’t do the tests inside the venue. Potentially costing them more to bargain with the city. And then, they’d have to do this 2-3 times a week. And I’m thinking shows with 700-1000 capacity. Throw it up to the major mid sized venues and the obstacles are even worse when it comes to adequately staffing.
I’m in a line for a PCR test that’s going to take about 4 hours to get through.
Good times.
Yikes, that's insane.
Out here it's by appointment slots only - so you don't have to stand around waiting like that.
Next appointment is two weeks from now. I’ll be well or dead by then. Lines moving. And my husband has been exposed also so I have company. We brought drinks, snacks, books, games. Us bitches are prepared.
1 person at my work out for covid monday and two out today. just tested negative on a rapid flowflex test so hopefully i’m in the clear for now. wonder if the breakthrough+booster is whats been protecting me so far

Maybe more for the college football thread but - feels so weird seeing a bunch of my college friends on social today going to Virginia Tech bowl game at Yankee Stadium. With so many of the bowl games being cancelled, didn’t see the one scheduled for NYC having a chance at being played.
I think it makes it more weird that I was there 10-11 days ago, got COVID from the trip, and didn’t even get to see LCD Soundsystem.
