We're all a mess of paradoxes. Believing in things we know can't be true. We walk around carrying feelings too complicated and contradictory to express. But when it all becomes too big, and words aren't enough to help get it all out, there's always music.

Have a crazy COVID story. My brother transferred to manage a new paint store last week. On his first day, his worker took an at home rapid that was positive. So that person couldn't come in. The only other worker that day? The guy's roommate, who also had to go home to take a test and quarantine since he was obviously exposed. So my bother was alone the whole day.

Aaaand there it is. Positive. I'm probably 75% better by this point too, and with the worst behind me, I honestly have a sense of relief that I dodged the previous more severe variants and I'm theoretically good now until the Pikachu variant in 8 months or whatever they name them once they exhaust the Greek alphabet.
But man, if you ever needed proof that "Blue MAGA" is a real and horrible thing, just look at my family's behavior since Christmas. Refusal to believe they would catch covid cause only Trump supporters are that dumb, despite engaging in the exact same behavior and thinking I was irrational for requesting some safety protocols. And now my 90-year-old grandma, who just tested positive too (and remarkably has milder symptoms than me), has potentially infected her retirement home after they invited her over too.

Signing up for my booster appointment finally (I know, I know), if I got Pfizer the first two, should I stick with it or get Moderna this time? I know the question has been asked and answered but I don't feel like going back enough pages to find it

Toss a coin. You get about the same amount of boost from either.

pfizer as its a full dose was my choice. as Druid said though it seems entirely superficial

Anyone know from experience how long Omicron returns a positive PCR for? I’m seeing everything from 7 days to 3 months.
We’re still stuck in Fiji, but hoping to go home on the 8th if we can return a negative PCR. Just trying to see what our odds are or if I need accept the reality that we may not go home till the 12th….

Would love some clarity on this question too. My partner has had two negative rapid tests since he caught covid, but the pcr test he took yesterday (10 days after the onset of symptoms) came back positive.
Should we not be seeing people until he gets the negative PCR? I don’t see how that’s realistic if that could potentially take months.

I do know the PCR will show positive even if you’re no longer contagious bc of the “shedding” period. So I think if rapids are coming back negative and you have no symptoms you’re probably good.
But this of course also has a lot of conflicting info coming back on it… it’s impossible to know what is the most accurate/up to date stuff. 😩

It varies from person to person.
Oh god. It would be just our luck for one of us to be negative and one to be positive….

If fully vaccinated, then no symptoms, you are good to go. Masked up.

I isolated myself for 6 days assuming that my muscle fatigue and weird kind of chills is covid. I have to make a decision tomorrow morning to stand in line for 2 hrs+ in 30 degree weather to get a test that may only be accurate to the end of my "symptoms".
I really am in a pickle because I have to do it tomorrow to clear myself for other things coming up. But will absolutely tank my financial situation even if I get negatives in 3 days. Because in NYC they report every point from diagnoses without paying attention to when the symptoms started so I'll be isolating again for 10 days.
edit: please remember I stood in line on Dec 30th for 2hrs.

My 15 year old daughters live with their mom/stepdad/three brothers during the week and us (me, signfiicant other, two brothers) on weekends. The babysitter at their mom's house brought her kid over who ended up testing positive. A couple days and no symptoms anywhere then their youngest brother (2 so unvaxxed) tested positive. No one else in the household has tested positive. My daughters were cleaning up after the little guy before the realized what it was. One had a sore throat today so went and got tested a second time and negative PCR again. So they get to stay in school, go to basketball practice/games, live normally even with a super close contact. It's been a bit of relief with two families managing this between two houses and slight differences in philosophies but at least everyone between the two houses was vaxxed that could be (we both have one that is too young) and so far has worked out well.
A crazy number but also the holiday backlog probably contributed a bit to it being so high. Still scary considering only a fraction of those that actually have covid are included in the number since so many people are either testing at home or not at all.
So there's been about 56 million cases documented in the united states since the start. Seems highly likely that by April or May everyone will have had one of the strains by then documented or undocumented

these massive case numbers to me are really a sign to move toward a stratification of the hospitalization numbers to the "hospitalized due to COVID" and "hospitalized with COVID".
with 1M cases reported, I dont think its insane to say that there were maybe over 2M cases yesterday. the fact that we dont really have a great way of tracking how many of that 2M are vaccinated people who ended up in a hospital due only to COVID is a public health mistake
