I live in the NYC area, and our numbers are finally almost pre-omicron, which is great for my sanity as someone who bartends (kill me). The biggest silver lining is that the numbers aren't down from the weather being warm enough for more outdoor activities (like how it's trended in the past) - they're done because the virus isn't rampant here. That gives me hope that as long as we keep it up with boosters and immediate safety in the face of a wave, we could make this livable?
I was boosted in late October because of my job, so I'm nervous about it staying effective next month. We still don't have any idea if we're supposed to get a 4th yet.

Early studies out of Israel show that a fourth dose of the current vaccine boosts antibody levels, but doesn't do much for T cells and B cells - mostly because they've already been jacked up by the three previous rounds and don't fade the way antibody titres do.
So, it's really going to become a question of what the goal is. Are we looking to just have everyone have high levels of circulating antibodies in perpetuity? Does that even make sense when protection from infection vs. Omicron isn't even that robust?
The thing I saw recently that showed some promise was the idea of intranasal boosters after a primary mRNA series. Aside from not being a shot, they also have the advantage of generating an antibody response in the nasal passages, which is where most COVID-19 kicks off. There are also studies being done as to whether an antiviral like Paxlovid (and whatever's going to come after Paxlovid) can be taken in a prophylactic capacity. Fingers crossed those two areas continue to show promise.
Jeremy went in for an ultrasound yesterday and they told him if he didn't have an appointment today he would have had an emergency one yesterday. Today at the appointment the team of doctors decided to admit him and he'll have emergency surgery in the morning. It's been a month that he has been in pain and the infection isn't better it killed his left bits and maybe his right (they'll make that call in surgery). This is all due to him getting covid in the first place and the ER not doing their job the first time that we went. I am scared, worried and freaking out a bit.

I’m so sorry. I really don’t have anything helpful to say, but I’ll be thinking of you guys and sending all the good positive thoughts that they are able to help him with the surgery.

I'm so sorry. I know you are scared. I would be too. You got this. Just be there for him.
He's out of surgery. It went well. The first ER trip is still fucking us over.
Idk if he's coming back to this room due to getting tested when he shouldn't have, testing negative and then them finding the positive from the first ER visit. He went through surgery as though he was positive when he isn't and it changes the whole room setup situation. So I'm playing the waiting game now.
Doctor has only ever seen something like this once before in 14 years.
just found out the super sold out Tyler show i’m going to in worcester next week wont require masks, neg test or vaccine. I’m still going but this is such a dumb decision. Also seems like TD garden nixxed testing/vax requirement. This sucks, I felt really safe with these measures in place and now they decide to just drop em all

Well after 23 months, Miss Rona finally decided to make her move on me. -5/10 absolutely do not recommend. My body is taking it pretty hard... I've had a constant fever averaging 101 since Tuesday morning, my whole body aches, I'm having some really fun stomach issues, and a bit of coughing. Thankfully, it doesn't seem to be affecting my ability to breathe and my blood oxygen levels have been normal the whole time. Basically it just feels like the worst flu I've ever had in my life.
Turns out even three full-ass vaccinations can't protect you forever... But sweet baby Jesus I can't imagine how much worse this would be if I didn't have my vaccine. I'm fairly sure I'd be in the hospital right now.

Wishing you a full and swift recovery! Following this thread, it seems like nearly everyone on here has caught COVID at some point by now. Just crazy.

A couple weeks ago, I think Mass dropped a lot of regulations.
Not that it was strongly enforced outside 128 and the Amherst/Northampton area anyway.

Its just so mind boggling because just a couple weeks ago, my sister saw Ghost there and they had a mask and vax requirement. only to drop everything 3 weeks later

Just got the call from preschool to pick up our kid because he's got a cough and is cranky. I looked at the calendar and he'll only have been in school for 6 days this month, assuming he'll be out tomorrow. Also set him up for his bazillionth covid test.
I understand it is what it is, it's just been super hard to continue working and doing all the regular stuff I need to do because nobody really thinks covid is a thing anymore at work.

That sucks and is very relatable. Everyone is ready for it to be over, but it isn't. It may not be for a long time which sucks. I hope they approve kid vaccines one day soon so you can stress less about it.

Why would anyone travel to another state to see that movie?
I hope everyone has been well. Been absent from this thread (and mostly from Inforoo) for a while. Now I have a question:
Has anyone had to deal with an employer that mismanaged a Covid situation? Somebody from work reported a positive test result after working her shift today. She had called off one day recently but I thought it was unrelated to Covid. I informed my boss immediately, and I was able to go and get a rapid test (negative) an hour later. Now it's almost midnight and I haven't heard back from my boss, who said to keep quiet while he was waiting on the owner/president. I'm going to bed soon, and we'll have people showing up again in just over eight hours. There's another probable case, as well (her best work friend and ride to work).
I'm well aware that damn near everyone in the company had recent close contact with the confirmed positive case. I'm afraid that if I start making calls I'll be in major trouble, as the business can not and will not function if we follow proper quarantine guidelines. But the moral imperative outweighs trying to avoid being fired for disobeying an illegal order, right? Is this the time to blow the whistle anonymously and call the local health department? I'm afraid that will create an even worse mess. We're supposed to inform them of any confirmed case anyway, but my employer is definitely not afraid to fire key managers, with or without cause. So I'm risking my job if I tell anyone or report to the authorities without permission, and risking my job and the business if I don't report it to the authorities.
Double post. This is insane and you need to report them. Fuck that job, it's not worth it
Super duper late here, as I've been busy with other things and not active here for a long time, but... It wasn't worth it, and I reported my (now previous) employer to the local health department, who did nothing, to my knowledge. (They're supposedly under investigation by the Feds now for the numerous labor law violations, but I have yet to receive a call about that.) I gave them two weeks notice a couple weeks after that episode, and quit without even having another job lined up. Best scary decision I ever made. I was asked by the owner to stay on a little longer and offered a few minor concessions but said no thanks. My replacement gave two weeks notice before I even left, and my asshole bosses at both levels above me got fired shortly thereafter. I'm not big on schadenfreude but it was nice validation.
I Doordashed for a few weeks then took a job that had been on the table for months. It was nice taking it easy for a few weeks, and since June I've been selling shitloads of bread. I deal with way less BS than I did anywhere in restaurant management, my employer cares about me, my days off are set in stone, there are no evenings or late nights, and I'm getting ready to buy territory and start my own distributor business, so my work life is all good.
I've been exposed to COVID numerous times, especially in December when my best friend and her kids had it and I took her to the hospital and we spent 12 hours in the ER waiting room, but I've been seriously blessed. Maybe I had it asymptomatically, but who knows, all the numerous tests have been negative.
I'm so glad that even though the health department didn't do anything, that you got out of that situation and it lead to a better path for you. That's amazing. Also kudos on staying healthy throughout it all. Welcome back!

It's a band called Ghost, not the movie
And Worcester is 40 miles west of Boston, still in Mass.
