Day 7 today, and I'm feeling pretty good. It's downgraded to feeling like a mild cold. But...I tested for the first time since last week on Monday and it's still positive. (Apparently, the lightness/darkness of that red line indicates viral load, and my red line was very solid). I found a medical study which showed that Omicron viral load usually peaks around days 6 & 7 and drops significantly around days 10 - 13. It's fine with the CDC if I break quarantine now, but I've got two concerns - increasing my own viral load by being in indoor public spaces while still infected and/or making other people sick. Since viral load corresponds to severity of illness, I'm staying in quarantine until I test negative, by which time, my Omicron-specific antibodies and B cells should be kicking serious backside. (FWIW, my temperature has been normal since Saturday).
Good to see you’re better! Sorry you’re still positive - it’s so rough.
Based upon what I can find online from legitimate medical sources, getting out on/after Day 10 is generally considered safe all of the way around. So, I'm going to hang tight until Sunday morning (Day 12) and take a walk to a local donut shop with a curbside window, which eliminates the need to go inside. I've had friends and family bring some essential groceries over, so the only thing I'm in danger of running out of is bottled water. I should be good to star popping into small corner convenience stores for spring water by early next week, with fuller engagement with the world starting the weekend of the 18th. Maybe I'm being overly cautious, but I'm an old dude (My Paul McCartney birthday is coming up in a couple of months...see the Sgt. Pepper track listing, if the specifics are unclear).
I'm just trying to keep looking at the bright side. My immune system now recognizes and responds to the Omicron family of variants, just in time for a run of Aug/Sept shows including a lot of long time favorites and near-favorites, including Elvis Costello, My Morning Jacket, The Decemberists, Pavement, The National, Roxy Music, and Father John Misty, among others. If I hadn't caught it now, I might have caught it at one of those shows (half or so are in an outdoor tent, the others in indoor venues) and wound up missing a bunch of those shows, many of which are clustered into two weeks in Sept.
Plus, there's an indoor three day music festival in late July here featuring most of the Boston area's best indie bands and I'll be primed and ready to go for that.

The eldest kid is taking a driver's ed class and when I walked in there were 35 teenagers in a tiny room sitting 1 foot from each other. I swear to god.
Forgot to mention I got an exposure notification from Sunday of Boston Calling from my Covidwise app. AHEM tw12
If only there was a way to have a fan venting fresh air into each porta-potty and vent stale air out, festivals would have far less potential to be vectors of transmission.
Even long before covid, it's been one of the immutable laws of the universe...
Nothing good ever happens in a music festival porta-potty.

Step 1: Have a great threesome Thursday night. Everyone takes a rapid beforehand. Step 2: Bask in the glow of memories Friday. Step 3: Get a text from the couple saying they're both positive this morning.
I've had a tickle in my throat since I woke up. FML. We'll see what happens tomorrow I guess.

Nooooo. Fingers crossed for you. And speedy recovery, piggy pablo.
I went out to support my friend's band last night, and, given it was probably my first time inside a bar since before the baby was born in December, I was just absolutely floored at how little anyone seemed to give a shit about COVID. Admittedly, this is a really shitty dive bar in Astoria, but the place was packed, and I, in my full N95 respirator, was the only masked person there. I realize this is how it's been for a while, but I just haven't been exposed to it before. My anxiety was at, like, 1000%.
If I get COVID right before Bonnaroo because of this shit, I'm going to be so pissed. Of course, my friend whose band it was is also going, and the rental car's in his name, and he was maskless, sooo....we'll see, I guess. And I certainly am going to have some work to do before I'm able to be in an indoor environment like that, again.

Friendly indoor bartender here to remind you that if you're wearing a N95, you are SO UNLIKELY to have picked it up from seeing a show last night. Yah, I've never seen someone wear at a mask at my work except for my coworkers (and they only do it off and on).
Can your friend take a rapid before you two drive together? Even like, outside the car?
I'M not eligible for a 4th shot but maybe i'll just get one anyway. Covid seems to be everywhere again
They literally never check anything so who cares. Eligible people have been eligible for awhile so you're probably not taking it from anyone. Hopefully they just approve it for everyone soon.
Throat's worse, but still negative. I've heard it takes a couple days for it to show up. WHYYYYYYY.
Yeah, my friend who recently got it was pulling negative rapid tests the first 3 days of her symptoms….and sore throat was the main one, I’m sorry to say.
Hang in there. Also, apparently a prescription for Paxlovid is easy to get since there’s so much supply, now, just in case it comes to that.

Fingers still crossed it’s a false alarm.
Thanks. I've been wary about that anti-viral because there isn't a lot of info out there about it. I thought it was for people who were high risk or elderly, or who never got the vaccine?

Yes, the same way fourth shots are only for those 50 or older. Ultimately, I’d talk to your doctor, but if your symptoms are rough, I think it does help resolve things quicker.

Thanks - hoping it doesn't come to that. Really don't want to be sick! Most people have had it as mild to bad cold type experiences.

In the last 2 weeks I saw 8 people come down with it. Three had minor symptoms, 4 were each sick a day to day and a half then small symptoms 2-3 more, and one had fever for a day and a half but stayed sick for 4-5 days. No matter what, you should hopefully be good by Wed/Thurs.
Cool. That article made me feel so sad. We have no infrastructure to keep people safe, nor are there any plans for it.
And my cough's gotten worse. GOOD TIMES.
That REALLY sucks! Besides all the bs going around from antivaxxers about Zinc lozenges, they do appear to help with symptoms and reduce illness time with other coronaviruses and may inhibit viral replication in the throat. Might be worth a try.
