Well after 2.5 years, the bug finally got me and my wife. Turns out somebody at the wedding we went to Atlanta was having symptoms, and the piece of shit ended up spreading it to dozens. How I fucking hate people.
So far feels like a mild cold/flu, and hopefully in a couple of days we'll start feeling better.
In the process of finally getting a few negative test results tonight (YAY!!), I discovered something interesting about the antigen quick tests. The instructions state that if you see anything at all, no matter how faint, in the test line, that's to be considered a positive result.
So, I took a free test I received in the mail and accidentally squeezed way more than the stated four drops onto the strip, so I took another one right away, and was careful to just squeeze four drops on the second strip.
After waiting the required time, I then checked both strips and didn't see the second test line, even when holding it under a lamp. Then, I reached for a very bright flashlight and examined the strips and saw a very faint line on each. The lines had no color though, they were almost transparent and definitely colorless.
Then something occurred to me. I then opened up another box, this time of the other brand I bought at my local Walgreens. Before taking the test, I reached for the flashlight and examined the strip. As I suspected, if you hold the test strip under a bright enough light, you will see a line comprised of whatever chemical they apply to the strip which is designed to turn pink when exposed to the virus. So, when the test instructions state that seeing any faint line is to be considered a positive test result, what they mean is any *pink* line, no matter how faint. If you can see a line that's utterly without color, you're just seeing that chemical on the test strip.
So, I'm going to test again on Thursday morning and hopefully can soon consider myself past the infection. Of course, having caught it despite always wearing a fitted N95 in all public indoor spaces and public transportation makes me wonder whether Omicron really can (1) transmit outdoors, even if you're not in a tightly-packed crowd or whether it's (2) so easily transmitted that whatever slight draft vents into my apartment from the hallway or a neighboring unit could be enough to cause an infection or (3) if you could pick it up from food or silverware handed to you by a server. I'm just hoping that now that my immune system has seen Omicron, it will be better equipped to handle any future exposure than it was two weeks ago.

Welcome to the Covid club.
People feel so much pressure to show up for shit because no one feels they can bail due to a safety concern. I had a customer tell me recently they didn’t test before their own wedding because “no way was I rescheduling it AGAIN”.

It's a very selfish and short-sighted thing to do. Now the newlyweds may not be able to go on their honeymoon cruise, which i believe happens a week from now, because the groom also came out positive.
Luckily for me and my wife, since we both work for the government in California, we can use state-covid hours to cover our time off. But many people don't have it like that, and will be losing $, time, while having the stress & anxiety of going through this.
As many of us have said over & over again on here, IT'S ALL FUCKED.

Oh wow, huge upside to California. I don't think New York has that.

Yeah, the bride and groom had to know they were putting themselves and their guests at risk by having a wedding during a pandemic. It's possible that one symptomatic person was a super spreader, but with transmission rates spiking again, there could easily have been multiple contagious people there. A coworker got back from a wedding in Indiana two weeks ago where there were 150 people, including senior citizens and young children, and the reception was indoors without a mask in sight. Sure enough, a bunch of people, including my coworker's husband, got covid as a result. Pretty much any gathering is a risk these days. Yep, it's all fucked.

I think that a lot of companies have a covid policy like that. Mine does. It discourages people from coming to work with Covid and spreading it by not using up their pto.

I'm just really sick and tired of people treating this whole thing purely as a matter of personal choice.
The relevant analogy isn't seat belt laws. The relevant analogy is driving under the influence. You assume all of the risk in the first instance, but share it with others in the second example.
When I was finally able to get back to Whole Foods and do my own shopping on Monday (yep, thankfully tested negative two days in a row last week), virtually all of the other customers and virtually all of the employees were unmasked. No one's asking anybody to run into a burning building to save a stranger or give one of their kidneys to someone. You're being asked to wear a protective mask in an indoor public setting (and if you can afford to shop at Whole Foods, you can afford a box of N95 masks.)
I don't expect anyone to love me, like me, laugh at my jokes when I'm onstage, or generally do me any favors at all, but I damn well expect you to conduct yourself in a manner which avoids putting the life of anyone else at risk, including me. There are so many things I hate about being an American, but this whole "freedom over personal responsibility" thing is near the top of the list. During World War II, people on the homefront in the U.S. had to sacrifice a lot, as factories were repurposed for the manufacturing of armaments and housewives were called upon to work in factories to do that manufacturing work, with so many men fighting the war abroad. Wearing a protective mask in indoor public settings and staying home when you're infected are much smaller sacrifices, but ones which so many consider to be impositions.
(The funny thing is that no one seems to have much of a problem with taking off their shoes before getting on an airplane, or allowing a TSA agent to touch the most sensitive parts of their bodies with a gloved hand, all because 3K people died on 9/11 and one shoe-bombing attempt was foiled, but people have a huge problem with wearing a mask after a million Americans have died of COVID?)
Since I’m still in the Moderna trial, I had to report to Vandy for blood work when I got COVID. Now I get to spit in a vial every other day and put it in a special bag. Someone comes to pick up my spit from the front porch. Then Moderna checks my viral loads. I somehow find this hilarious.
I'M not eligible for a 4th shot but maybe i'll just get one anyway. Covid seems to be everywhere again
I've cancelled my plans to get a 4th shot on/around July 1 for now, for a few reasons.
*I just recovered from Omicron, so I've still got Omicron-specific antibodies on the rise and Memory B and T cells now trained on handling Omicron. Having had the original Wuhan virus in Jan/Feb 2020, followed by three Moderna shots in 2021, and one of the Omicron variants this month has primed my immune system as much as possible. Getting a 4th shot ASAP would be like pouring water in an already full glass.
*I probably should have gone to an urgent care or emergency room when this happened, but I had some weird heart stuff going on in the days after my first booster shot last fall. Mildly irregular heartbeat, maybe even a little chest pain. None of that happened after my first two Moderna shots, and the Moderna booster contains half as much vaccine as the initial two shots. Going for a second mRNA booster seems like a bit of a risk for me, especially with my recent infection functioning as a booster of sorts, and one which was Omicron-specific. Should the whole inactivated viron vaccine Covaxin be approved for use as a booster in the U.S., I'll go for it. It's formulated in a very similar manner to the usual flu shots and because it's based upon the entire virus and not a portion of the spike protein, it works more effectively against all current and future variants than the current vaccines available in the U.S.
*Numbers are dropping in the northeast, and we're now six months into the year without a sign yet of any variant on the rise that's not in the Omicron lineage. We may actually be entering that phase of the pandemic where it transitions to something far more manageable, based upon the milder time that people are having with Omicron and the growing immunity due to the mix of vaccination and previous infection that most of us have experienced by now.
*If I do get reinfected again, however, I will go for a Paxlovid prescription ASAP, which I didn't do this time.
*I'm still going to wear my N95 indoors, but will ease back into attending indoor venue shows in July, as well as reading poetry and telling jokes at the occasional open mic starting in a few weeks, as well. I feel very hesitant in taking my mask off altogether for my 5 minutes onstage, but if I don't do this soon, I'll likely never do it again. I strongly suspect that lack of joy in life is the single worst thing for your health, and nothing brings me joy as reliably as getting onstage and saying weird things. Even when I don't get a great response from the audience, I always feel energized in the best possible ways after performing.

Why on god's green Earth would you say this? Why don't you just walk under a few ladders and break a few mirrors while you're at it?

Managed to get through Bonnaroo unscathed (it seems) by doing my best to avoid crowds, only to get exposed today at work to an unmasked coworker for 90 minutes in a meeting room. He tested positive tonight. I wore my KN95 the whole time, so we’ll see if I dodged it. We also share an interior wall that seems pretty sealed.
I’m so mad — we are on the verge of getting our youngest’s first shot, and now I’m a liability. I’ll be masking at home for a while and trying to avoid her. All I wanted was to get her some degree of protection beforehand, and now here we are. Ugh.

Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.
Yellow is the flagship Gatorade. People like yellow lol.
Yellow was just what they made first. Then they improved it with every other flavor.
Put them on the map, still ubiquitous in every gas station and drugstore in America. I prefer several flavors but I think it's good.
Forgot to mention earlier.. Passionfruit is such a great Gatorade flavor, probably the best I've tried. Sorta harder to come by. They had it at the Walgreens near me in the early pandemic but don't anymore. It's somewhat hard to distinguish from Orange, just slightly more yellow.

As someone who has a small market as part of his responsibility I can tell you that yellow is the only flavor that is always in stock from vendors. I'm not saying that basics don't drink it but I am saying that sometimes it's one of the only options.
