my mom has it for the first time since nov 2020. symptomatic since monday and tested positive wednesday. vaxxed and boosted and still quite sick. luckily started on paxlovid yesterday which seems to be helping and its not as bad of an illness as the first time.
Whats bothering me though is that my dad and sister are making zero effort to distance themselves from her and my dad had a severe cough. He refuses to test again despite testing neg a few days ago before he developed said cough. Hes essentially got the blue maga view on covid where hes given up on prevention and is just letting himself get it again, even though he had a 2.5 week severe case of it back im 2020. So fucking frustrating and angering to see him so nonchalant when he has multiple comorbidities. Granted hes also boosted so it shouldn’t be as bad as 2020 but who knows.
Im also extra annoyed that i’ll have to isolate and cancel social plans for another 10 days after already being stuck inside since monday. tl;dr is staying home to save money for grad school sucks

Yeah. That sucks because he probably has it, but hopefully he’s on the upside. I’m kind of in the same boat but symptomless. I’ve been isolated in my room when at home the last couple days since C tested positive. He’s on about a week and now Is only dealing with aftermath symptoms like sinus issues. But I managed this far and don’t want to catch it. I don’t think it would be the end of the world with 4 shots, but 2 1/2 years of avoiding that shit I don’t want to catch it now. I fucking hate getting sick anyway. I have the A- blood which reportedly was most at risk. Hopefully you’ll be fine Doom.
I get to stop isolating/masking at home today. It’s been 10 days since my first positive test, and I’ve tested negative at home since two days ago. My symptoms were VERY mild this time - no fever, just light nasal congestion that was easier than some allergy days I’ve had this year. I did this whole regimen of gargling with betadine 4x a day, using an iota-carrageenan nasal spray every four hours, and doing a sinus rinse twice daily, but the truth is it was probably the fact I got my fourth shot on June 1st that made it like this. It didn’t keep me from getting it while traveling, but it made it a breeze from a severity standpoint.
SO FAR (and I am knocking on wood while I say this), my wife and Inforoo Baby are fine. We’re not fully out of the woods with them until six days from now, since it’s possible I was still infectious, like, three days ago, but I’ve also been wearing an n95 in the house at all times, we’ve had the windows wide open, and I’ve been isolating as much as possible, so the chances are lower. Our big worry was me having infected them before I knew I was sick, but we’re getting pretty past the point of that being possible, timeline-wise.
So, yeah. COVID jail the past 10 days has sucked, but I’m grateful everyone else is healthy as of now, and just looking forward to not masking all day, every day - the bridge of my nose may be permanently bruised at this point.
I'm utterly convinced that after the last couple of years, the shape of my nose has slightly changed.
I know I'm going to test positive as soon as I say it. But I'm pretty sure I'm covid proof.
Same. I’ve been living my normal life since I was fully vaccinated april last year and have somehow completely avoided it. I’ve gone to a tooooon of concerts.

Some good news from Moderna this morning: Their bivalent booster that used the Omicron BA.1 spike had a very high neutralizing antibody response vs. BA.4 and BA.5 out to at least one month (because that's all the data they have so far). They're going to publish, so it does seem they think results will hold up to peer review, which is great. They also have a BA.5 spike-derived bivalent booster in the works. Timeline-wise, the former (mRNA 1273.214) should be ready by some time in August, while the latter (mRNA 1273.222) is targeting the first week of October. As usual, Chise (Twitter's favorite furry molecular biologist, who also works on the Moderna vaccines) lays it out pretty well:
I mean, who knows where we'll be, variant-wise, come October, but it does seem like Omicron descendants all the way down at this stage, so either one of these boosters is going to be an improvement over the original formulation.

I know, that's why I don't want to say anything either! I'm fearful about my upcoming trip to Chicago though, especially the wedding I'm going to (more so than one day of Lolla). But neither me, my dad, my siblings or my nephews have had it (don't think my cousins have either), so I dunno.

Same. Been in so many situations that I just thought, well...this is it. This is the night that I get covid.
Any signs of symptoms I test myself, just never came back positive.
GF even had it and we live together. STILL don't know how I didnt get it from her.
Edit: I've come to the conclusion that the rest of yall nasty.
My mother and I went on a cruise last week. I made both of us wear masks pretty much any time we were within 6 feet of people. Luckily they made everyone over 12 show proof of vaccination and a negative test within 2 days of sailing. My mom even marked she had a runny nose on her check-in form and they made her retest at the port. Honestly I would just like to not be scared my mother and grandmother will die from covid all the time. I know they're going to die some day anyways but for some reason it being a contagious thing just makes me super mad LOL

We've been on three since they opened back up. I feel better on a boat with 99 percent of the people being vaxxed than I would anywhere else. The one we went on like a month after they started was awesome. Ship was at like, 40 percent occupancy.
But I did see the CDC has left it up to the cruise lines to decide what measures they want to take now. So we'll see how they react.

We met a retired couple who had been on SIXTEEN cruises since September. They didn’t even get off the boat!

I'm having a hard time accepting that I'm not seeing Bikini Kill tonight because of COVID... Two+ years out from my first shows getting cancelled due to COVID.
Also, my grandfather, mom, and little brother (for the second time) have it.
My niece and her husband both have covid. He had to take her the emergency room tonight because she couldn't breath. 28 (where's the time go?) y'all. They hadn't had it before and are both fully vaccinated and boosted. He had asthma worse than I do, my niece doesn't.
Back from Chicago - there are a few people wearing masks indoors there but not nearly as many as here in NYC and even here its down a lot. Anyway, the three events around my nephew's wedding were my first time doing crowded indoor stuff without a mask (because it's all eating and drinking! - well not the ceremony lol.) since this all began - plus I did a day of Lollapalooza outdoors, where I haven't been masking. Anyway, I was fearful about finally catching COVID on this trip - but a week later, nothing! And it was really packed and crowded at the two receptions, as well as that T-Mobile Lounge at Lolla. I did continue to mask indoors elsewhere and mostly dine outdoors. Quad vaxxed - but my last one was back in April. So that is a relief - still going to stay careful though til these Omicron update shots come out.

After coming down with symptomatic COVID a few days after Boston Calling, where I wore my N95 every time I used a porta-potty, I finally went to seated show in an outdoors-ish venue on Boston's waterfront on August 15. I saw literally only one other masked person there (I kept my N95 on all night), and it appeared that 80% of the audience was over the age of 50, so that was surprising.
The woman sitting in front of me coughed all night long and I half-expected to come down COVID again after that, but I'm relieved to say that I didn't. I'm going back to that pavilion for three more shows in September and also a few outdoors things in parks and parking lots next month. Then I'm finally headed back to indoors shows starting in late September for a run of 5+ shows through late Nov.
I'm not a young man and I've got a handful of other health issues which seem to be bubbling up lately, so I've got a real "now or never" mindset brewing and I've got to force myself to get back to more shows before I'm not up to seeing any shows.

So my girl, Alice, who I spent all weekend with (mostly outdoor and masked at Peaches indoors) tested positive this morning. Right after I checked in with the health & safety team. I just took an antigen test, I am getting sent to the urgent care to get a pcr, but my antigen test came back negative, so I am cleared to work with a hepa filter cleaner thing in my office. Once I get my PCR results we will go from there.
Fingers crossed I somehow don't get this again, we shared J's and vape.

This is her first infection, knocking my never-infected friend count down to less than five now. I really hope you are correct, I am fucking stressing out over this.
EDIT: So I am stressing. I got PCR tested and am back in my six foot squared cubicle office with a hepa cleanser in it, socially distancing waiting for my results. I feel like I should not be here, I do not like this at all.

The potential loss of opportunity due to getting covid, in addition to the financial loss, is insane. I hate it, and I'm crossing my fingers for you.

Yeah, I really can not afford to not work right now. I am hoping that they still offer covid pay and I can work from home. I think IF I test positive I get tested daily until I am negative but I can work from home, maybe. I am not really sure, it isn't the same as the CDC it's definitely stricter, but the fact that I am back in the office right now makes me feel like it isn't THAT strict anymore.
this is semi on topic with Covid but has anyone else npticed that there have been very few show announcements for December, January and February? seems like artists are intentionally not scheduling anything then out of fear of another winter surge

You'll always have that cushy mod salary to fall back on.
