My wife is being taken into the hospital for coronavirus testing (from urgent care).

Apparently they're not freaking worried at all since they gave her a mask, sat her in general population ER waiting room, and have her more than halfway down the "urgent" list.

She’s got difficulty breathing, bad cough, muscle aches. Flu-like symptoms.
Doesn’t have the fever apparently - which i would think rules it out tho. Perhaps why they aren’t concerned at all

Fuck. Dude. So sorry to hear this. A silver living is that at this point, anybody sick is far more likely to have any of the other bugs that have been going around in circulation during this flu season, but it's good she's being proactive about it. No fever is very, very good too.

I have read that not all people that catch it get a fever and that it is not as severe in most of those cases. Fingers crossed that she doesn't have it at all and it works out. I can't even imagine the stress you are dealing with right now, just waiting. HUGS

She got into be seen as was met with "why are you here?" by the doctor. I think the urgent care was just scared it would come back on them if she did have it, so they sent her there. But, even if she did, neither place had a test kit.

Out of curiosity are they sending her blood work to the CDC for testing? Or does she just not qualify to be testing.

I don't believe she even qualified as the doctor was puzzled why she was even sent to the ER for her symptoms that were just obviously an upper respiratory infection.

I was curious because of our proximity and I personally felt off yesterday and decided to stay home today as a precaution. Literally my only symptom is fatigue with an occasional headache/light headiness. No fever, no cough, no runny nose, nothing else. Perhaps there is something else going around.

Social containment is the best strategy at slowing this down until we can get a handle on it. Governments and organizations are taking advice from the best-trained epidemiologists in the world. I'd listen to them, especially when they say they expect 40-70% of people (can't remember if that's worldwide or just the US) to contract the virus in the next year. That's a fucking LOT. It's scary but the disruption of our daily lives is necessary.

I have been reading alot of this from every doctor, epidemiologist, and public health official (especially those in the war zone that has become Italy).
If more people like him need critical care for long periods time, the hospitals will be overrun. The toll it's taking on the healthcare workers in Italy is very sad and concerning too. Nurses and doctors haven't gone home for over a week, just working around the clock and they don't want to go home and infect their families.
So Betty and I had a respiratory thing, I was calling it a post nasal drip, for almost 5 weeks. There was a point for both of us that we took off of work (neither had the flu, but we both felt like we did). After three weeks of twice daily breathing treatments (albuterol), I ended up getting prednisone to kick it since I have severe asthma/allergies and I couldn't get rid of it and it was trying to get in my lungs.
Hopefully, y'all just have a milder case of what we had (unless it was a mild case of Covid-19) and it passes more quickly than it did for me.

Indiana University (and all affiliate campuses) are closed for "face-to-face" classes for two weeks after spring break as well... starting to think driving up to Chicago for Caribou might be a no-go next week Huge bummer, but obviously pretty small potatoes compared to the sorts of sacrifices I imagine some are making
Miami-Dade County Public Schools is mobilizing suspension of school for a couple weeks. Handed out forms to the kids today to gauge how many of them need laptops to loan out so we don’t have to eat two weeks of summer vacation.
We don’t even have any confirmed cases in the county.
Consider everyone’s shit lost.
Edit: To give you an idea of how big this is, MDCPS is the 4th largest district in the country. You’re talking hundreds of thousands of kids sitting at home.
