What are people's reasons for the Mafia needing to submit a whack? I see people who are for it but not much regarding why they feel that way.
Now that we've had a discussion, I'm willing to consider it. For this game specifically, I felt it was taking advantage of a loophole in the rules to argue that the doctor saved the inspector who was faking. If everyone understands that the mafia can not submit a whack before a game begins, I think that's a different discussion.

That makes sense. I never really considered it a loophole and always thought that Mafia could not submit a whack, but just never chose to because it's not advantageous.
I had a funny feeling about Jaz and possibly Rummy. But I wouldn't have expected it to come on Day 1.
This interaction stands out too, because you had done very little in the game up until this point, but it's a very easy distancing move.
Oh you were so close and then got flipped.
It's wild how NBF and I managed to get all three on Day 1 and y'all still fucking lost.
Also, Mafia has self whacked before. I don't know why people think it's not out of the real of possibility. Mafia players today don't think outside the box as much as they used to, so this game was great.

I don't think it was a loophole until we introduced the doctor. The doctor was supposed to try to even things up for the town in my view.
Also, I think we'd need to consider a new rule for missing a whack then. I just have no idea what it would be. Maybe that's when we reveal a role? If mafia misses/chooses not to whack, extra lynch but after the lynch is dead we get their role confirmed.

Hmm that's interesting. Would be down to give it a shot
Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.
I think the Doctor is a powerful role and could possibly (over time) lead to a power imbalance shifted towards the Town the way it currently seems to be for Mafia. As long as the Inspector and Doctor make it to Day 2, Town is going to know: Inspector, given name, N2 guess, N2 townie lynch, and doctor. Nine players left with 5 roles known - leaving three Maf and one town as unknowns. It won't always be that straightforward (fakes, inspector/doc might get whacked, etc), but if it becomes the norm I'd like to revisit it.
Edit: Actually the one townie would be dead, so it'd be nine players left with only four living roles known.

Seems reasonable to me to revisit. I'd love to find the rules that best balance the power between the two.

AMending rule 5 for this: During the Night, the Mafia decide on the player they want to eliminate (whack), and inform the Referee via PM. Mafia must submit a whack and are subject to a role reveal of the most recent lynch if they fail to submit a name before the deadline.

Also an additional town lynch, right? To get back to odd numbers. For example:
D1 - dead N1 - whack missed D2a - special, whack lynch dead, D1 lynch role revealed D2b - normal D2 N2 - whack

a) If the missed whack leads to an even amount participants, a special runoff will occur before the next day starts. A whack can not be submitted after the special runoff.

So it seems like a typical game could go...
After night 1 two vanillas dead
Day 2 doctor and inspector reveal.
Doctor whacked night 2, inspector gets second guess to reveal on d3.
