That sound has subsequently become permanently identified with the southwestern landscape that it accompanied. Daniel Lanois has said it was an influence on his own playing, and it seems to have deeply affected the Lanois-produced U2 album The Joshua Tree — see, for instance, the beginning of "Running to Stand Still."
