Mensch Maschine do you remember how much you paid for Sonic Explorer? I’m thinking I want to be snooty this year with you guys.
DO IT! My wife and I are doing that again this year! Let's see... I believe it was $700 at the initial offering. Which is a deal because I estimate the actual value to be a gagillion dollars.

It’s gonna be lineup dependent but I’m going solo this year and thinking I may use the extra ticket money on upgrading. It’s been over two years and I’m itching for this festival.
Hey maybe you all can help me. What are some other videos we can share that will help folks dive in? I'm gonna add a Moses and a Preservation Hall one to get hesitant appreciators a foot in the door. What else should I highlight? It can be anything.

Amazing line-up; Sonic Explorer tickets secured! I thought we'd see Godspeed You! Black Emperor listed... I'm going to have to find some tickets for their Chicago shows...

I'm just going to get this out of my system, and then focus on how absolutely brilliant this line-up is: losing A Winged Victory for the Sullen, The Necks, Múm, and Tindersticks hurts.

Agreed. I am happy they kept Annette though. I’m taking that as a win.

Also just noticed this tidbit from the email:
Please note: With the rise of COVID cases due to the Delta variant, we're mandating that all attendees be fully vaccinated in order to participate in all ticketed activities presented by Big Ears.

Pretty impressed how they consistently manage to book lineups that are immediately identifiable as Big Ears lineups and nothing but Big Ears lineups
Every name I know on here I'd be excited to see, but for those that I don't does anyone happen to have a lineup playlist handy? It'd be much appreciated

I’ll hook you up after I get home. It’s jazz heavy and there’s a good chance the names you don’t know are the Haitian or New Orleans bands. That’s what left me digging yesterday.
Ok so how has Animal Collective fallen so far down lineups at this point?
I’ve constantly said to everyone that BE doesn’t have headliners for me. They have bigger and smaller names. Because of the music presented and the format that it’s presented in, you don’t get traditional headlining sets. They’ve changed the poster a few times, too. I thought it was odd that Sumney was number 2 and Sparks was 4. They’ve changed that since then. I’m betting AC gets a higher billing at some point too.
I literally look at those posters as a list of names that I have an opportunity to see.

Few jumping off points I noticed today.
New venues: They are adding 2 new ones - Tennessee Amphitheater at Worlds Fair Park: Seating for 1k is how capacity is listed so who knows. It appears the Tenn Theater is still larger. Fred says folk, I think the indie rock but I’m betting we’re both wrong.
- Old City Performing Arts Center: Capacity says 220 but a ton of different configurations.
KREWE DU KANAVAL: “A celebratory tribute to the parades, costumes, and music of Creole culture, it will be tailored to The Mill & Mine by Ben Jaffe, the creative director of Preservation Hall. Taking place in and around the venue, the immersive, episodic experience brings together Haitian music heavyweights from across the festival for an experience replete with unique sets and decorations; drumming, dancing, and chance encounters; and DJs deepening the NOLA-Haiti connection.”
Dunno if this means for a day or all weekend. Excited to have a dedicated venue but sad it’s not a smaller one.

I honestly didn't know the Old City Performing Arts Center was a thing.
In case anyone was worried, the Tennessee Amphitheater is covered. You gotta walk through the park to get there, but it should be alright once you get there. Oddly enough, StreetView has a shot from inside the venue. Can't beat a Sunsphere background.
Ok so how has Animal Collective fallen so far down lineups at this point?
I can't explain why... but as much as I love AC (and I *do* love them... when "Sung Tongs" was released, I thought it was the best album by anyone in years!), I'm always bored to death at their live shows. BUT, I still see them every chance I get... wondering if my head will finally get in the right space!

See Rummy 500. I’m not the only one. This man speaks truth.

I feel like Damon Locks needs to be on here. I flip-flop between Sons of Kemet and Black Monument Ensemble being my favorite jazz album this year.
Also, YAY FOR SNOWMAN BIG EARS
Oh and for you aging hipsters in here, Damon used to play in Trenchmouth with a young Fred Armisen years ago.

Here’s the first hour:
I’ll keep updating as I forgot they kids had appointments yesterday and are out of school today.
Hopefully, these are some of the big ones. We need more Annette Peacock so she’s first.
Not gonna put Low or AC or any of that stuff. You guys know it. You love it. Gonna keep this to names you don’t know.
E: per email.
