Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
The Premise It's the year 2021. The festival market has seen a complete reset. There will only be a handful of festivals this year, all with at least thirty exclusive acts on their lineups. Artists are eager to get out and play to large crowds, so any act who played at least one show in the 2010s is eligible, so long as they are still living and physically able to perform. These festivals are all expected to have maximum clout, as well as budgets, with no prior attachment to established festivals. For some dumb reason, you each have been selected to act as the talent bookers for one of these festivals.
1. There will be no limit on participants. As many or as few people can join as want to play.
2. Participants may join until the first round of bidding ends, so that those who are hesitant have a chance to observe how everything works. The penalty for joining late will be missing out on whatever acts are purchased before they join.
3. If anyone quits, their lineup and remaining budget will be made available to the first non-participant who wishes to join. If no one claims the lineup, it will be dissolved, rather than put back on the market, to avoid inefficiencies.
4. Budget is 300 dollars per team. Every act drafted (top 30 on each lineup) must cost at least one dollar. Max bid is, in that case, 271.
5. Nomination orders will be randomized for the first round and posted in the OP. Joiners will nominate at the end of the first round in order of joining. Once the first round is complete, including joiners, subsequent rounds will be randomly ordered and all rounds will be posted in the OP.
6. When a bid is placed, the bidder should quote the previous high bid and announce their new bid. For example: "47 for Artist X". Please, please, please do not edit or delete posts with bids. A bid cannot be modified, with one exception per player per game (the Takeback, detailed below).
7. There is no limit to how many bids a player can place at once, but no player may have more than their max bid on the line at any given time. Any bids that take someone over their max will be ignored, while other outstanding bids will be honored.
8. Nominations will be announced at a pre-specified time, initially 3 PM Eastern (all times will be listed as Eastern from Friday 9/18 forward), by either the drafter, auctioneer, or a proxy.
9. Bidding will last up to 24 hours or until all players besides the one with the highest bid (the "leader") and two other participants have passed on an act. Once someone passes on an act, they cannot un-pass. This is to avoid any confusion.
10. One act will be nominated at a time until a comfort level is established. After this, the number of concurrent auctions will increase or decrease by one at a time based on a simple majority vote of drafters. More than two auctions a day will not take place until the conclusion of the current Bonnaroo draft and voting, and the number of daily auctions can only increase or decrease once a week. The maximum number of daily auctions will be six.
11. The Takeback: participants are allowed to rescind or lower a bid ONCE in the duration of the game. There are two instances in which participants may do this:
a) within two hours of placing the bid b) if the person ahead of the participant has rescinded their bid
To clarify, if Player A (leader and third-leading bid) rescinds their bid, Player B can rescind their second-leading bid, leaving Player A on the hook for the third-leading price. Both players would no longer have their Takeback for the duration of the game.
12. Takebacks may not be used on a pass.
13. Any artist who has played at least one full show on or after January 1st, 2010 is eligible, with the exception of artists who have passed away or otherwise lost their ability to perform.
14. If one or more members of a band has passed in the 2010s, this should be addressed in the nominating post. A single member having passed does not automatically rule an act ineligible, but it should be brought to the voters' consideration.
15. The backing band of a solo act may be decided by the winner of the act, rather than the nominator of the act. This applies globally to all similar considerations. The winning bidder will have full control of how to advertise the act.
16. Participants may nominate and bid on venues, specialized gear and stages, as well as musical acts. However, a stage or installation associated specifically with one venue cannot be drafted.
17. For the first two rounds, the nomination pool will be limited to four acts per drafter. Drafters will advance four acts to the pool upon sign-up.
18. After the first two rounds, all eligible acts will be available to be nominated and bid upon. In your sign-up post, please include four acts that you would like to see possibly bid on in these first two rounds.
(I'm not sure the best terminology to differentiate between people nominating an act ("nominators", first bidders) and those submitting acts to the pool. Welcome to suggestions on that lol..)
19. Bidders (especially nominators) are strongly encouraged to provide a setlist or live video/audio (from the 2010s era) of the artist they are bidding for, as an example of the kind of show the artist is capable of putting on. The auction is meant to be a celebration of the acts being drafted.
20. The voting details will be worked out after all teams have joined, to account for the number of participants, but voters will be encouraged to vote for the festival they would most like to attend, without money or travel as a factor.
21. Schedules are required.
I'm planning on participating, but considering not, so that I can focus on being auctioneer.
Update: I'm not planning on participating. Since this is the first time doing an auction, I want to be able to keep a more neutral stance on any loopholes that I haven't intended as part of the game, ie whether certain things are in the spirit of the game.

Sign me up tbh
this might be the shot in the arm the format needs after...well...that
EDIT:
Anyway, here are my four acts for submission:
Aphex Twin My Bloody Valentine DARKSIDE The Grateful Dead
I'm not so much interested in how much the obvious headliners will go for. The cost of rare, high-tier acts that the board may or may not love will be far more interesting.
Love the Fare Thee Well lineup advancement. Hadn't considered that one.
I don't think "Grateful Dead" works, though. Those shows weren't billed as "the Grateful Dead." The event itself was billed as "Fare Thee Well: Celebrating 50 Years of the Grateful Dead." This is also how Bob Weir referred to it. When they replayed the shows on GD's Sirius channel, the group was referred to as "Fare Thee Well," and the box set of the shows isn't attributed to the Grateful Dead.
I didn't think Burial was eligible I just saw a bunch of BS on setlist.fm
Worth noting there is a fairly crappy metal band called Burial so every once in a while someone will see that "Burial" is scheduled for a show somewhere and become convinced it's him. Spotify also sometimes likes to notify me that Burial has new material out and it's very much the wrong one.
Please don't. Not to start with, anyway. We'll have a ton of names for the first two rounds. Starting round three, though, you can nominate anything. Only needs to be from the list for the first two rounds. The nomination list for the first two rounds is meant to be a compromise between having a set list of eligible acts, like the Coachella Draft, and a total free-for-all.
I can't stop anyone from naming names, though. One of the theoretical benefits of the auction is that nothing should sneak past anyone.

the most recent draft has me pretty burned out so taking a week or two between the end of that and the start of this would be ideal, but yeah no matter what im in

Interested in signing up but will be in the mountains from tomorrow or Friday til at least next Tuesday...so waiting at least a week would be great. Also, burnout from last draft lol. Maybe could start at the beginning of new month or something?
Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.

Works for me. Cdev has another draft coming up but this one should be fluid as far as how fast/slow we go, up to the participants. I think I forgot to mention in the OP that I'm only planning to have nominations Monday through Friday.
