Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
I talked about this a while ago with T and basically we agreed we shouldn't worry about it too much. Like I obviously think that acts that have never headlined Bonnaroo are more important. But if someone ends up with Post Malone or Phish I won't hold it against them that they played in 19. Someone is going to end up with those artists and I don't think it should be undraftable.
Shouldn't be undraftable, no. But does decrease the value IMO.
RH played 8 years ago. Macca 7. Those are both long enough ago that I think their value isn't *decreased* by such, but admittedly picks like RATM and Bey, having never played Roo at all, do have a bit of a nudge in value by way of that fact.
I also firmly believe that Amelie Lens stylistically makes zero sense for Bonnaroo. There is zero precedence for a hard techno act that’s her size. Aphex Twin makes more sense stylistically cause he actually plays Eprom and G Jones type stuff.
I did say Cardi is great and I've talked about Phish and Gambino being weird to repeat as well. In the end I think all six headliners in our matchup are great headliners in a vacuum, so I had to nitpick other stuff with them. A headliner playing two years in a row is extremely weird for any festivals and two legacy acts is also kinda weird compared to three headliners with more variety.
And I dont really have an issue with any of the acts I talked about being unrealistic on your lineup, was just using them as an example since we're up against you and Julie and Bing continued to bring up four small DJs on our lineup being a huge problem even though every lineup has similar acts (todd terje, bicep, jubilee, etc).
Jubilee plays hip-hop and Miami bass, and is actually U.S. based. She’s way more likely than Special Request and Palms Trax.
I think wooks would love Special Request and Palms Trax plays like disco/house/pop, not weird at all for bonnaroo. Palms Trax is literally like the easiest most fun DJ to listen and dance to lmao
The whole repeating acts was never really an issue and if it was then it should've been voiced better that people did have an issue with it and perhaps specified in the rules/voting that you are taking a risk if you are picking a repeat act. Now using that as some sort of argument as to why a line up or even a headliner is inferior, is kinda weak imo.
The entire point of the game is making a realistic Bonnaroo lineup for 2021. Why would repeating acts from 2019, the last bonnaroo to have taken place, not have an effect on that? To me it's one of the most objective ways you can view "realism".
I for sure have some repeat issues I'll address when I vote, but we didn't take anything I couldn't defend. Halsey back with a huge jump to #2 on her day after 5 years is a no brainer. Also 5 years for Leon, 7 for Disclosure who honestly shouldn't even be brought up in this context. I've already made my case for Sturgill before, but I expect him to be an act that plays a ton of Bonnaroos while he's in his prime.
Your lineup is good, ours is good. I get trying to defend and distinguish, but really believe the difference here is personal taste.

yeah those ones aren't a big deal, just using it to reference to show that we purposely were booking things that haven't played ever.

For people that went to Bonnaroo 2019, do you think Cardi B’s set was well received? Do you think the Bonnaroo audience would be excited to see her come back the following year and headline?
I love her and thought she was super fun at Coachella, but I mostly saw negative feedback about her at Bonnaroo on the subreddit (obviously not fully representative of everyone that attends Roo, and most people on there are idiots). Her having a new album that’s good and elevates her before 2021 is as speculative as Lorde or Kacey Musgraves headlining IMO

I just have a hard time with Bonnaroo 2021 being “the following year.” Cardi’s set will have felt like a lifetime ago by the time Bonnaroo actually happens again.

Rihanna hasn’t played since 2016. How many US festivals did she headline before that? Seems more realistic to get a return from a rising artist with a history with this fest over someone who rarely does stateside fests and hasn’t really toured in five years. Your pick is just as speculative as ours. Only difference is Cardi is probably more popular with zoomers at this point and it would make more sense for her to comeback and capitalize on being the next big thing.

Hey now! I thought we agreed Rihanna and The Stones were a wash lol
And regarding MCR vs The Cure, it’s kinda apples and oranges. We picked MCR because they would be a massive hit at Bonnaroo and sell loads of tickets, not because we really like them. The Cure are just really good and should have played Bonnaroo by now.

Eh, they’re just more comparable re: Cardi vs Rihanna. If Rihanna finally played festivals over here again I think we all know which one would book her as an exclusive first and it ain’t Bonnaroo.
Edit: though to be fair we are packing The Stones so I get why you guys called it a wash

but Bonnaroo would for sure get the first Stones HL set 😂

I don’t think the people you are referring to would be happy with Rihanna or Megan either
people were saying it all draft. Phish fell to Rnd 16.
Then perhaps some sort of prop should've been set up idk. Phish fell in the same way Coldplay or Pearl Jam 'fell'; everyone had their headliner set in place.
Honestly Phish is the only headliner where it makes sense for them to play in recent years, since they never play the same show twice and their fan base isn’t going to care. Bonnaroo used to recycle jambands every year.

I ended up leaving before Cardi last year cause I hated the party crowds That year. Tons of people pushing and pickpocketing so I didn’t bother but would enjoy it from a distance. Just knew putting her on the Which was gonna be a shitshow.

Lizzo had one of the most awful crowds I've ever been a part of. Groups of moms in the south are dangerous.
*Probably just an ACL thing, wouldn't be as bad at Roo I'd hope
