A little googling says this is Rushmore, is this a good movie?
Oh yeah, it's great. A *little* less goofy than Wes Anderson's later stuff, awesome soundtrack, helped lead to the Bill Murray Renaissance and launched Jason Schwartzman's career. The character is pretty much based on what a weird, precocious kid Schwartzman was (he's a Coppola or related to them).
It's also one of the rare movies shot in Houston, where Wes Anderson grew up. Rushmore, the school, is based on and shot at St John's here, where Anderson went to school. I think it's meant to take place in the Northeast, though.
For realism, I think Sang/Deto have a slight edge, but it's very close. Headliners are about even, idk that Roo would book both Rage and Metallica, but size-wise Sang/Deto's headliners are the right size. Ariana + Paul feels a little stacked. As far as the size of the subs go, I think Sang/Deto's 4-9 of Bjork, Odesza, RtJ, Porter Robinson, Khalid, and Chvrches is more realistic than Lana, Robyn, New Order, Kygo, Oysterhead, Virtual Self, but just by a hair. And I don't think Fatboy is ever gonna play Roo. So Sang/Deto get the nod for realism here.
For realism, I give Sang/Deto 6, King T/JTR 4
But King T/JTR have the edge when it comes to quality. I think they stayed relatively within the bounds of the draft's aim, and did improve Bonnaroo with their lineup. I feel like sang/deto drafted a very Bonnaroo lineup, and it's a decent one, but the top lines aside from the headliners are comprised of repeat acts. I feel like I've already been to this Bonnaroo, and that's probably my biggest issue with it.
For quality, I'm giving Sang/Deto a 4, and King T/JTR a 6
So we have a tie! Let's dive into some schedules.
SangDeto Thursday: I really only know Fontaines D.C. They're okay. I usually don't know Thursday acts so this is no biggie. Friday: Fruit Bats > Sylvan Esso > Black Coffee > Yaeji > RATM > RTJ > Superjam Saturday: Common > Bjork > Freddie Gibbs > Lizzo > Porter Robinson I guess Sunday: Jill Scott > The Roots > Little Dragon > Nightmares on Wax > Metallica
King T/JTR Thursday: Barrie > RHPS Friday: Parcels > serpentwithfeet > Mt. Kimbie > Ariana Grande > Oysterhead Saturday: U.S. Girls > King Krule > Damian Marley > Fatboy Slim > Superjam > AnCo Sunday: Pinegrove > The Highwomen > Paul McCartney
This is tough. I like King T/JTR's schedule better for my personal tastes, though the Friday run feels very Coachella to me until I get to Oysterhead. My schedule for SangDeto seems very Bonnaroo to me except for maybe Nightmares on Wax, but the acts on my SD schedule aren't as interesting as those on KT/JTR's. In the end, while I do think KT/JTR's is too stacked - and I will hold this against them more in the next round - Sang/Deto's feels like too much of a rehash of former Bonnaroos. They had opportunities to book acts that hadn't played before and building something new, and didn't use that to their advantage.
King T/JTR
DE/WIPP vs FAPEMPD
On a time crunch so I have to cut down on the commentary. I think The Cure is more realistic than MCR, though neither of those two feel particularly Bonnaroo to me. DW have a few more slightly-questionable acts (NxWorries, Pharrell), so the realism score is gonna be in FEP's favor.
DW - 4, FAPEMPD - 6
Again, a case where some slight boundary-pushing leads to a better quality lineup...just gonna give this to DW and send it to the schedules to break the tie.
DW - 6, FAPEMPD - 4
DW Thursday: Kenny Beats (great pick) Friday: Cuco > Tom Misch > Tipper > Spiritualized > Rihanna > Superjam > Charli XCX Saturday: Kevin Morby > Oteil & Friends > Toro y Moi > ELO > NxWorries > Floating Points/SJ Sunday: girl in red > The Wailers > Ja Rule and Ashanti > Smino > Fleet Foxes > Pharrell > Dead & Co
FEP Thursday: Goose Friday: Amadou & Mariam > IDLES > Battles > Cardi B > Disclosure > Kevin Abstract Saturday: Jamilah Woods > Christine & the Queens > Sturgill > The Rolling Stones > Wet Ass > DJ Koze Sunday: Ghosts of the Forest > Jonsi > Sia
A closer inspection of the schedules hurt DW's realism for me. I can't really imagine a Bonnaroo late night where I'm choosing between Soulwax and NxWorries and then going to Floating Points. I would have fun at both of these fests, but FEP have enough of a realism edge with the schedules to get my vote.
FaP,Em,PD
Bing/Rummy vs Meatball/Larry
Bing/Rummy have a clear edge in both categories in this matchup. It's hard to go into too much more detail here without going into things I've said in the previous round, but Bing/Rummy just have a very solid lineup.
Even if you think Harry should be a headliner, that aspect is at least even with Tyler in this matchup. And then they have Florence too... The Capns have a great lineup, sure, but I'm quite surprised it's passing the realism test for so many people. Glad so many people love it though.
Realism - The Capns 0, Jaz/Fred 10 Quality - The Capns 0, Jaz/Fred 10

SECOND ROUND MATCHUPS You must vote for all matchups.
sang / deto (qaulity 9.5, realism 9.5)
Thur. Brass Against> Julia Nunes> Alfa Mist> Sister Sparrow> Son Lux> Opry (I believe we were the only one teams to actually book acts for the opry?)> Mom> The Murder Capital, Algiers> Fontaines DC I definitely feel like we have the best Thur. For one, I actually know most of the acts playing and most wouldn't be out of place on Thur.
Fri. Nilufer Yanya> The Suffers> Sudan Archives (the best thing I discovered while drafting)> Warren Haynes> De La Soul> Nathaniel Rateliff> 2 Chainz> Sylvan Esso> Odesza> Primus> RATM> RTJ> Superjam (Ig this is not the best, most realistic Bonnaroo day, then I don't know what say is. We booked some of what was actually going to happen this year that we were excited about and improved it with RATM)
Sat. Cursive> Steel Pulse> Robert Glasper> Glassjaw> Mavis> Nickel Creek> Khruangbin> Damien Rice> Bjork> Oh Sees> Lizzo> Mastodon> Deafheaven> Chromatics (Again I feel like we put together another near perfect Bonnaroo day, we kept a headliner from this year that was responsible for the sellout and we gave you something amazing late night with Chromatcis)
Sun. Sarah Jarosz> Allman Betts> Toots> Jill Scott> The Roots> Little Dragon> Watkins Family Hour> Polica> Metallica (I've seen some talk of this day being weak, I don't see it. It has the usual chill Sun. stuff with some soul and dancy options and you get to end it with an epic Metallica show. I get the knocks about 2 having 2 heavy headliners, but Metallica is bascially classic rock at this point. They're only playing the hits.
King T / JamesTheRam (quality 7.6, realism 6.8)
Thur. Larkin Poe> Slaugher Beach, Dog> Opry but who's playing it?> Barrie> Sleaford Mods> Rocky Horror is this a live performance?> Amyl & the Sniffers (Pretty solid Thur. with some names that I actually know, which most of the fests didn't have)
Fri. Everything Everything> We Were Promised Jetpacks> Parcels would be weird playing on What> Lily Allen> serpentwithfeet> Deftones> big gap> Pixies> Ariana> Oysterhead (This doesn't feel like a Bonnaroo day to me, but I've been wanting Deftones to play forever, Pixies would also be great but I'm not sure if they should be in a tent. I don't Ariana would happen. I know they got the closest to pop with Lizzo this year, but I don't see them going that far in that direction. Oysterhead is out of place on your lineup, they should be on ours)
Sat. The World Is A Beautiful Place> US Girls> gap> Tennis> Foxing> Lukas Nelson> Damian Marley> DCFC> Loretta> ham sandwich> Robyn (There's stuff I like but nothing that I love and you have a headliner that I don't care about at all. Robyn LN would be fucking great though)
Sun. Mdou Moctar> Pinegrove> Michael Kiwanuka probably not big enough to be on What> Hayley Williams> The Highwomen> Lianne La Havas> Lana> New Order> Paul (This is definitely your best day and I'd love to see Paul close again, even if he's playing the same songs)
DRAGON ENERGY / whereispassionpit (quality 7.5, realism 7.7)
Thur. Don't know anything other than Wand, who probably wouldn't be Thur.
Fri. Tinariwen> Lucy Dacus> Violent Femmes> Low> Brittany Howard> Devo> Spiritualized> Rihanna> Superjam> Charli xcx> Fuzz (I like everyything on this day, it would be really fun. I had to knock it for realism though. I don't see Rihanna, Violent Femmes, Devo or Spiritualized playing at this point)
Sat. Lady Lamb> Kevin Morby> Kool & the Gang I guess? random as fuck> Tyler Childers> ELO> Kim Gordon> ham sandwich> Soulwax (Again, not a realistic Bonnaroo day to me and a headliner I don't care about at all. I doubt ELO being here would be enough to get me to go to this. You only have one great day)
Sun. Helado Negro> The Wailers> Tanya Tucker and Esparanza Spalding should be switched> JEW> Fleet Foxes> Pharrell> Remain In Light> going home early (This day is decent, but again, there's not enough here to get me to go)
fearandparanoia / emoney / problem dog (quality 8.7, realism 7.4)
Thur. I don't know anything on this day
Fri. Amadou & Mariam> Boris> Idles> Code Orange> Feist> Joan Jett> Allah Las> Halsey> Iggy Pop> Cardi> Judas Fucking Priest> (Great day for my tastes. Rock heavy but you do have Cardi and Halsey)
Sat. Angelique Kidjo> Windhand> Wolf Parade> Jamila Woods> Margo Price[/b> Leon Bridges> Sturgill> Stones> jamie xx> Ty Segall (Another good day, would the Stones play? probably not, but would be huge if they did)
Sun. Baaba Maal> JTE> Bleached> Jessie Ware> Ride> The Breeders> Gillian Welch> Jonsi> Sia> Interpol> The Cure (This is a great day, but more realism questions. It actually feels more like a Shaky Knees lineup with bigger headliners and a little pop mixed in)
Chandler Bing / Rummy (quality 8.1, realism 9.0)
Thur. Porridge Radio> Spellling> Opry but who's in it?> Tropical Fuck Storm> don't know anything late except Brutus (Solid Thur. a few names I know, probably more if I researched)
Fri. Hand Habits> Julia Jacklin> Marcus King Band> Magpie Salute> Daniel Ceasar> Liam Gallagher> Angel Olsen> BOCC> Yob> Billie> Sufjan> Caribou (Great day, maybe on the smaller side for a Bonnaroo)
Sat. Dream Wife> Miya Folick> gap> Empress Of> Phantogram> Shovels & Rope> Moses Sumnmey> Raconteurs> Radiohead> GYBE (Another great day and I've already said that run at the end of the night is my favorite)
Sun. Marika Hackman> Cherry Glazerr not big enough to be on Which> Jay Som> Chloe x Halle> Vince Staples> Kamasi Washington> TWOD> Claypool-Lennon> Paul Simon (Another solid day, solid sums up this whole fest. When I was knocking off points for realism I knocked the least off of this one, other than our own)
Delicious Meatball Sub / Larry Farnsworth (quality 7.9, realism 7.5)
Thur. Lydia Loveless> The Coathangers> Jesus Piece> Half Waif> Illuminati Hotties> Makaya McCraven (Probably my favorite Thur. other than our own)
Fri. This Is The Kit> Jade Bird> Overcoats> Wye Oak> First Ladies of Bluegrass> Ari Lennox> Neko Case> Arctic Monkeys> Rosalia> Iron Fucking Maiden> Missy> Sigur Ros (Another contender for my favorite day, but there are some tough conflicts here)
Sat. Amanda Shires> Waxahatchee> OM&M> The Antlers> Jim James> Taylor> QOTSA> Dilla Superjam (Pretty good day)
Sun. Caspian> Jimmy Cliff> Brockhampton> Dinosaur Jr.> YMSB> Kylie> Cat Power> home early (Some good things but definitely your weakest day)
Capn Jim “Mad Dog” Mattis / Cap’n Mac (quality 9.2, realism 7.5)
Thur. Guerilla Toss> Stonefield> Sasami> Psychadelic Porn Crumpets> CBGB> Jessy Lanza> Kikagaku Moyo> The Murlocs (Another one of my my favorite Thur.)
Fri. Inter Arma on What is crazy> Local Natives would be later> Sleigh Bells> Santigold, I realize how crazy it is but it got me to go to The Other> Zola jesus> PJ Harvey but I realized I'd have to skip Rod y Gab, Avetts and Warpaint> I don't remember having all of these conflicts before, did you change it up a lot?> Tyler> TooL> Krafterk> Tortoise (This day is insane, your fest has been my favorite other than our own this whole time, but I'm just now realizing how many conflicts there would be. Going to have to knock for realism.)
Sat. Larkin Poe> Built To Spill not big enough for that spot> Decemberists too big to play that early> Patti Smith> Televison vs. Dungen wtf?> Florence> boygenius> Gorillaz> Jamiroquai (Another crazy day, this thing is stacked, maybe too stacked)
Sun. Francis Quinlan> Kate Tempest> No Age> Perfume Genius> Steve Gunn> Blonde Redhead> EITS> Lionel> Thom> Pearl Jam (I might like more on your lineup than I like on our own)
Jaz / Fred (quality 8.5, realism 7.7)
Thur. Anna Meredith> Ex Eye> Opry but who's on it?> Chai> Nothing> Atlin Gun (This is a pretty good Thur., on the small side)
Fri. Calypso Rose and LA Witch should be switched> Lucius wouldn't be that early> DBT's> Raphael Saadiq> TLC> Belle & Sebastian> The Jesus and Mary Chain> Gambimo> King Gizz (Decent day love closing with King Gizz)
Sat. Shame> tune-yards> MØ> London Grammar> Phosphorescent> Broken Social Scene> Twigs> Beach House> Gaga> Slowdive> Flylo (Solid day)
Sun. The Hu> Cate le Bon> Aldous Harding> Tinashe> Big Thief vs EOB sucks> Pusha T> Tash Sultana> the xx> Nick Mason vs The D sucks> Aracde Fire (This day is almost as crazy as the fest you're up against. very solid, but very stacked for a Sun.)
Bottle Rocket is easily the best movie ever filmed in Dallas. Anytime my wife and I pass a spot from the movie I have to point it out. I don’t think she really gives a shit. I would say Office Space (always got me when his neighbor said that he was, “doing the drywall at McDonald’s over in Las Colinas”), but Anderson made a point to highlight architecture and cityscapes. Really gave it a different feel than this flat place covered in malls and chains.

sang / deto King T / JamesTheRam - not a ton to say here. Sangdeto’s lineup is one of the better combinations of quality and realism in the draft. Can’t shake the feeling that King JTR fest looks and feels more like Lolla than a classic/improved Bonnaroo.
DRAGON ENERGY / whereispassionpit fearandparanoia / emoney / problem dog - this was the toughest one for me because I think these are my two favorite lineups outside our own. Edge goes to the tripod simply because I think it’s slightly more realistic, but honestly if I were making a final that didn’t include my own lineup these would be my 1-2.
Chandler Bing / Rummy Delicious Meatball Sub / Larry Farnsworth - of course I’m choosing my own here. I do like RumBing quite a bit, just not as much as our own. I don’t think we have any individual acts that are truly unrealistic, and I thought we did a good job balancing genres and making the lineup diverse and inclusive. Might skew a bit older but hey, there are lots of people (like me) who don’t go to Bonnaroo anymore because they got away from what made them great in the golden years so we were looking at a return to the 2010-2015 era.
Capn Jim “Mad Dog” Mattis / Cap’n Mac Jaz / Fred - this one comes down to two things for me: I like the Captains’ undercard slightly more and while I don’t love their headliner grouping necessarily, I’m not at all a fan of bringing back Arcade Fire years after they stopped being good or bringing back Gambino so soon.
sang deto: Quality 8.5, Realism 7 Would rarely be bored at this fest, but conflicting Gibbs/Oh Sees and Primus/Jungle is particularly cruel to me, personally. Probably the best hip hop lineup out there. All genres are represented and i would love it if bonnaroo started booking a jillion hard rock/metal bands but you could have dialed it back like 25% to get some more realism points. Everyone's focusing on the two heavy headliners, but also a run of Clutch > Oh Sees > Mastodon > Deafheaven is just too much
tractor james: Quality 4 Realism 8 Headliners do nothing for me, everyone who wants to see Paul multiple times has done so. There's stuff I like scattered throughout the lineup but I would be insanely bored on saturday. I would do Marley > Lukas Nelson > Fatboy Slim > Superjam and not be particularly exciteed by any of it. I would not go to this fest so I guess that makes it realistic. Not much jam backing Oysterhead tho
That Bull Image: Quality 9.5 Realism 9 Amazing runs of music every day. Had to dock half a point from quality because we did not book the Queens of the Stone Age. Busted our asses to get the bonnaroo mix of genres and appeal to all age groups just right for realism purposes without sacrificing quality. Nailed it imho.
dragon energy passion pit: Quality 6.5 Realism 7.5 Not much going on for me with the headliners. JRAD plays more interesting music than Dead and Slow. Wouldn't have a ton of downtime outside of thursday which is a complete mystery to me, but the only bands I'd be excited for are Fuzz, Whitney, Tom Misch, and ELO. Realism seems to capture what bonnaroo is these days for the most part with probably a few more unlikely bookings than other remaining lineups . Conflicting Turkuaz with Deadco is weird.
chandler rummy: Quality 7.5 Realism 7.5 Headliners are obv very bonnaroo and some good runs but there's about 4 hours before Liam on friday where I wouldn't be into much of anything. Saturday particularly strong for my tastes. Words have been spilled about sufjan late night, but at least you moved destroyer out of that spot. Rap lineup is too thin, Stormzy and Vince are great but not much else there, dunno how the Mayor of Bonnaroo would feel about the demotion, despite having earned it. Barely any jam outside sunday
frazzledrip: Quality 9 Realism 7.5 If someone booked a festival with Iron Maiden, Sigur Ros, QOTSA, and Phish as the only 4 bands playing over 3 nights I would immediately hand them $400 no questions asked. The rest of it is pretty good too, only quality knock is friday is a little light between Dogleg and big red machine. Undercard is solid on realism but the headliners hurt you there and the Other is kinda out there too
team captain: Quality 8.5 Realism 6 Into all three headliners, and very little downtime. Good job. My realism knock is the same as sangs, it's too heavy. Converge, Opeth, and Tortoise in the same late night is absurd. Not enough here for the children
jaz fred: Quality 7 Realism 8 Headliners are middling - Gambino just played, Gaga is a great pick, I lovehate the arcade fire. Some dead spots during the day but you make up for it with great late nights (too many conflicts tho). Feels pretty realistic
RoboCop was partially shot in Dallas, also. RoboCop 2 was shot in Houston. I guess those cities looked more like futuristic Detroit than Detroit.

I’m trying not to be controversial this late, but would anyone support only allowing two members of the Bulls to vote for their own lineup? All their other votes count. It probably won’t end up making a difference but if it does, that seems unfair and I would hate for anyone to lose that way.

He didn't even vote last round and we're currently winning by way more than a single vote. This is transparently petty.

sang / deto King T / JamesTheRam
attendance - king james realism - king james i guess? quality - king james
quality is def the closest category here, as there's a lot i like on both lineups, but New Order + Robyn + Macca just put it over the top for me. attendance / realism wise, i think Sangdeto could struggle, i don't think Bonnaroo 2021 is the type of festival to ever book 2 metal HLers, and the lack of modern hip hop aint helping either, just a little too much oldhead vibes throughout for me to be convinced this sells out. whereas i'd bet livenation is drooling at the possibility of a Macca + Ariana + Trav top line. even if it is expensive as all hell, it's an instant sell out. sangdeto def has king james beat on the electronic, but overall like i said last round, king james just played the game better imo. king james in 6.
DRAGON ENERGY / whereispassionpit fearandparanoia / emoney / problem dog
yeah dragonpit probably have the best lineup in the game at this point. my only real criticism of it it just how all over the place it is (which is only amplified by the poster), but that's part of bonnaroo's identity so i can roll with it. as both a a HLer and as a draw, Rihanna>>>Cardi, even if the realism of it is low. honestly w flume, meg. charli, tipper, this is easily the best day in the whole game. MCR's tour performed so well that i can see them showing up on a lot of bills next year. dead and co are kinda neutral for me, but def help with attendance. as for the bulls, my biggest issue remains that although The Rolling Stones and The Cure are both great names, and either one would look really nice on the Bonnaroo 2021 lineup, but the chances of the combination of the 2 happening stands at less than 0% for me. And again, Ty Dolla Sign 4th on his day, Leon Bridges 3rd on his day, Schoolboy 3rd on his day, all super suspect. bulls get swept here imo.
Chandler Bing / Rummy Delicious Meatball Sub / Larry Farnsworth
attendance - frazzledrip by a hair realism - rummybing quality - rummybing
def the closest matchup this round. frazzledrip just gets the attendance edge bc of how absurdly huge Taylor is in TN, but i think that friday actually really struggles with the zoomers. should probably switch Future and Missy. as for rummybing, Billie is a great get for this game, and that friday is really solid. obviously radiohead gives you a boost and although i don't love your sunday it's pretty solid. overall niether feel super realistic for bonnaroo 2021, but rummybing is closer. rummybing in 7.
Capn Jim “Mad Dog” Mattis / Cap’n Mac Jaz / Fred
attendance - jazfred realism - jazfred, by a mile. quality - capns
yeah the more i look at it, the more i feel the capns have the most unrealistic lineup in the game, even more so than the Theos insane top 6. there's was absurdly expensive, but it at least would have guaranteed a sellout and had enough to get out the roo vets + the younger crowd in droves. the capns just have close to nothing for the zoomers here. out of the 23 act's you have on your poster in the HLers + Sub position, only 4 are getting the younger crowd excited (tyler, wayne, curry, kali). but easily the BIGGEST sin in this game is claude von stroke being your top electronic dance act at 24th overall. that's just disqualifying imo. in a game where our big point of emphasis was supposed to be some semblance of realism (however you may interpret that), it feels this lineup just completely ignored that and played a normal roo draft. jazfred are also some stiff competition here, def one of the top 3 lineups left, that although has some issues, it has a really nice sense of direction and style that could be 2021 bonnaroo. jazfred sweeps.
Not really You guys are given an advantage. I said it probably wouldn’t even matter. This seems really reasonable.
