i'm annoyed that they announced 2 instead of 3, but whatever. i have to believe RHCP are out of the running for third headliner, or else they would've been part of today's announcement. i'm leaning Lorde. (of course now it'll be stupid post malone or something.)

It would make sense for it to be someone from the Prima lineup since Boston is as close to Europe as you can get in the US, Dua or Lorde would be ideal
Is this confirmation that RHCP are definitely *not* headlining next year? It would be so odd for them to announce Foos and RATM, but not announce RHCP if they were, in fact, coming back.
This is a great opportunity to mix things up a bit on the top line. Three directions they could go in here...
1) Big hip hop/R&B name
2) Rock act, classic or indie-ish, not as heavy as RATM & Foos (not that they're particularly heavy, but I'd think they'd want to take advantage of the opportunity to mix things up more than NIN or Tool would, although either would be great.)
3) One of the reigning female pop artists - Eilish, Lorde, Cyrus, or Swift (probably too big to do any U.S. fest other than the 4 or 5 biggest, but the guy who curates the festival co-wrote and produced much of her last two albums and gave her cred with a whole new audience, so I wouldn't rule it out.)
Boston Calling could roll the dice on where Olivia Rodrigo's popularity will be in a year and book her (Book a stronger-than-usual Blue Stage or Red Stage closer for the same night, so if she's not that huge by May 2020, you could flip Rodrigo with whomever was slated to close a secondary stage and have her close that stage instead. They did two flips like this in Sept 2014, long after the lineup drop and poster release, with Gambino/Lorde and The Roots X Nas/The Replacements.)
i like Olivia Rodrigo but if she's headlining festivals off 1 album i will be extra annoyed.
i do think they try to diversify to sell more tickets after how financially rough the last 2 years have been. like i said, i think it's Lorde. Dua Lipa would be cool too. Taylor Swift would make all my dreams come true (maybe with Bleachers playing on the same day?) but obviously unlikely. Billie Eilish has a Garden show in February so she's out.
if they go in the hip hop/r&b direction, i just hope it's someone good (kendrick, frank ocean) and not someone awful (post malone, travis scott)

travis isn’t headlining again for a little while lol

The Killers headlined Boston Calling four months after playing TD Garden. If Eilish sells out the Garden quickly, she could be in play for the third spot.

We hope you’re excited that you decided to hang on to your tickets after this morning’s announcement of Foo Fighters and Rage Against the Machine headlining Boston Calling next year! And this is just the beginning; we have so much more to announce in the months ahead.
As promised, you will have rollover credits to use on site at the festival. We will be in touch with all the info and instructions you will need to access and redeem these credits when wristbands begin shipping. Please lookout for an email from us in early April 2022. In the meantime, don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions!
If you purchased a single day ticket, we will send information once the entire lineup is announced regarding transfer of days if you wish to do so.
I think they need to book a slightly smaller 3rd headliner in order to bulk up the undercard for 2022, the 2020 line up was pretty top heavy and I think that was the result of Rage being a bit of a curve ball in their planning.
Have to assume Run the Jewels is going to be back, since Rage is. They're probably the closest thing we have to a lock, outside of the 2 announced headliners.

I’m really hoping for Lorde here. It feels like she could be in the U.S. for Boston Calling and Gov Ball before heading over to Spain for weekend 2 of Primavera.
As for the undercard, it sounds like Run the Jewels should still be a lock. I’d like to see Phoebe get a bump here as well. Portugal. the Man, Royal Blood, and St. Vincent would be nice additions. Overall, I really hope that they beef up that undercard because it really needs it.
11/19: Caribou 11/22: Ranger Trucco 11/29: Armand Van Helden* 1/16: L'Impératrice 1/30: Jamie xx 2/1: DJ Seinfeld 2/7: Mild Minds* 3/1: Father John Misty* 3/19: Confidence Man 3/23: DARKSIDE 5/8: Rüfüs Du Sol
I’d be all for that but I wonder if they would actually book that many acts for the undercard from what is essentially 2 fests ago.
Based off Primavera seems like Brittany Howard, Dinosaur Jr, Girl in Red, Sharron van Etten should be playing around the time and we’re on the 2020 line up, feel like those are close to locks.
I might have jumped on an early bird for similar reasons, but that undercard was trash in 2020.
Whats cheaper, solo RATM date or $100 for RATM plus some cool stuff and trash.
I happened to look it up, it's actually $299 plus fees instead of $399 in 2020. I'd probably pay over $100 for nosebleeds at the Garden, so now I'm thinking about it.
no Northeast tour dates other than NYC for Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit through March 2022, so safe to assume he's been retained?
Possibly, but they've got around 10 days between September dates in NYC and Philadelphia, so if they're not taking a mid-tour break, that would be the logical place on the schedule to add a Boston date.
He hasn't played Boston since 2017, so it would be a shame to make us wait a full five years for a show. Also, I can't imagine that an 8 month gap between Boston dates would trigger a radius clause for a subheadliner, when The Killers played TD Garden in January and Boston Calling in May.
BROCKHAMPTON announced a 2022 tour and there isn't an announced Boston date adjacent to their NYC and Phila dates, despite having a few open dates around that time. There is, however, a gap after regular tour dates in mid-April. The next listed date is Primavera, so Boston Calling seems like a possibility.
This, along with the absence of RHCP from the top line announcement, suggests that there will be lineup changes from 2020 beyond those which have to be made because an act isn't doing the festival circuit next year.

Guarantee you theyll be in the opening lineup for Roadrunner because their last album is also named Roadrunner LMAO. plus theres a gap near ny and philly dates

So, the Boch Center just announced Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit at the Wang Theater on Saturday, Sept 18.
That's the same night that Dawes is playing five or six blocks down the street at the Orpheum. Assuming that they're both LiveNation shows, how did LiveNation New England not realize that there's huge overlap in their audiences and that ticket sales for both shows will be less than they would be if they were playing Boston on different nights?
This is like booking Judas Priest and Iron Maiden in the same city on the same night.
