Possibly, but they've got around 10 days between September dates in NYC and Philadelphia, so if they're not taking a mid-tour break, that would be the logical place on the schedule to add a Boston date.
He hasn't played Boston since 2017, so it would be a shame to make us wait a full five years for a show. Also, I can't imagine that an 8 month gap between Boston dates would trigger a radius clause for a subheadliner, when The Killers played TD Garden in January and Boston Calling in May.
So, the Boch Center just announced Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit at the Wang Theater on Saturday, Sept 18.
That's the same night that Dawes is playing five or six blocks down the street at the Orpheum. Assuming that they're both LiveNation shows, how did LiveNation New England not realize that there's huge overlap in their audiences and that ticket sales for both shows will be less than they would be if they were playing Boston on different nights?
This is like booking Judas Priest and Iron Maiden in the same city on the same night.
It turns out that an independent promoter, Outback Presents, is doing the Isbell show.
Even so, how do you not check previously announced shows in a particular market before booking a date, just to make sure that another big draw in your particular genre isn't in town the same night? That Dawes show was announced months ago.
The late night, aftershow guitar pull in someone's Four Seasons suite is going to be the performance of the night.
It looks like Lorde is out as the mystery third headliner.
Not because she's playing the Wang Theater in April as part of a North American small hall theater/ballroom tour, but because she's got UK dates at the end of May.
The bottom half of most festival posters is filled with rising, new artists. I'm assuming that we'll end up getting some 2022 bookings who couldn't and wouldn't have been in the original '20 lineup because they weren't on many people's radar a year and a half ago.
Under the "Really should book for the 2022 undercard" category, I nominate these two artists...

Both would be great. I’d also love some Squid or Black Country, New Road. Arlo Parks or Remi Wolf would also be solid gets
Definitely definitely RTJ. I just hope they announce more than 1 act, especially when the 1 would be someone so obvious because of the Rage tour and the 2020 lineup and the tweet hint. I wouldn't be surprised if it was just 2 acts, since the headliner drop was 2 acts, but hopefully it's more and not fewer.

It's got to be either the third headliner or 2+ other acts, because one subheadliner or lower doesn't seem worthy of its own announcement.
“These artists will join a bill of over 50 performers, including an additional headliner,” the fest writes. “Keep a lookout for more artist drops throughout the year.”
I suspect that, as much as they want to make it up to us for dropping the ball on 2021 dates (when their festival takes place in the most vaccinated part of the country), they can't drop too many names now because two thirds of their bookings likely have already-announced Boston shows this year. Dropping those names could hurt ticket sales of those acts' local headlining shows.

Only four acts announced and this is already off to a great start. I'm thinking just one more lineup drop and I'll pull the trigger on a ticket/hotel. I can't imagine the more local festivals like Govball are gonna get better headliners than Foos/Rage.
If Phoebe Bridgers is back in the lineup, it's likely as a Blue or Red Stage closer, if not the third headliner. Tickets went on sale for her Leader Bank Pavilion show a half hour ago, and I just entered the queue for tickets and there are "2000+" people ahead of me in the queue.

oh man she would be so good as blue stage headliner

FWIW, a second Boston show got announced.
Demand continues to be so strong that when I clicked on the link for the the second show, all that displays is a blank page.

Keep trying, I was able to reach the ticket page eventually earlier.
I did, but then discovered that we had to register as a "verified fan" ahead of time in order to purchase tickets during the first 12 hours.
Right now, excluding the center section tickets priced at $281 and change, not including service charges, there appear to be no more than two dozen tickets left.
I probably should have followed her on Spotify first, since there was a Spotify presale password.
At least, quick sellouts of two shows at the Pavilion will likely keep her in play for Boston Calling.

Based on what they produced for this years lineup I’d say that’s a safe bet
Interesting curveball just got thrown. Wilco's "every other year" western Massachusetts festival, Solid Sound, just announced that they're running the exact same dates as Boston Calling in 2022.
This rules out Wilco and their side projects for next year, since they play every day in various configurations at Solid Sound. Not that they were likely, but this does rule them out.
The bigger impact upon Boston Calling, though, might be a decision to not compete with them by booking the sort of Americana, Indie Rock, and Roots acts that play Solid Sound. The Boston Calling poster might wind up with more hip hop, pop, and heavy guitar rock than it would have otherwise had, figuring that the same people who turned out for Brandi Carlile, Hozier, Fleet Foxes, and The Decemberists in recent years might be in North Adams that weekend.

Boston Calling is the week before Tyler's set at Primavera, so definitely possible. Though I wonder if he'll do an arena tour with a TD Garden stop prior to the fest.
