I thought you were being cheeky. but holy shit, that's real. real WTF kinda thing.
edit: I guess his only defense is "i was thinking with macaque"
Fair enough. Georgia is an easy #1 right now. After that, there's a bunch of room for debate. I've not been watching as much this season, but I am enjoying how most of the season hasn't been spent waiting around for the inevitable meet up between two teams that everyone knew were going to be in the NC since September.
Why does it pain them so much to just put a G5 in the top 4? Its not like Oregon is going to put up a better fight against Georgia than Cincy would. They have to be really against the prospect of it because I think it would make more sense money/storyline wise to have the undefeated and well-liked G5 school in the playoff than a one loss Pac-12 team. I genuinely think Cincy could hang with anyone in the top 10 past Georgia. I just don't get how it hurts to at least put Cincy in a position where they control their own destiny if they win convincingly. I have literally no attachment to Cincinnati, but I think this is very dumb

I don't think Cincinnati should be in the top 4. They've struggled with nearly everyone they've played (was losing to a Tulane team last week that hasn't beaten an FBS opponent all year) and the teams they are beating aren't very good with the exception of Notre Dame who is also struggling with every team they're playing and most of them aren't very good.

I hate this argument. Clemson struggled all the way to winning a national championship in 16. A bunch of close games and even a terrible loss to Pitt. Also hate they haven’t played anyone argument.

This isn't a good comparison. Cincinnati doesn't have a generational talent that Deshaun Watson was. Clemson played a better schedule in 2016 and didn't struggle with teams as bad as Tulane or Navy this year like Cincinnati is. The ACC sucks but it's not the AAC.
Also For every Clemson 2016 there's a Notre Dame 2012. Clemson that year was an exception, not the rule.

I don’t buy it. If they’re undefeated they should at least get a shot at it. They went to ND and won. As much as we all hate to admit it that’s hard to do.

I mean maybe, I'll probably still have my doubts. I guess we'll cross that bridge when/if we get there, who knows what's going to happen with how crazy this CFB year has been.

That's a big thing that keeps me calm about the rankings. A lot of the controversy with the initial rankings works itself out in the end. Bama shouldn't make it in if they drop the SEC championship to Georgia. If Cincinnati pulls off the undefeated season, they have a stronger case to get in there. Michigan State has to get through Ohio State and Penn State.

Yeah it'll workout itself out, at least somewhat, by the end of the season. There will still be something that we're mad about though.

Oh yeah. I feel like it usually goes from opinions like sang_xcx's where everything except one thing is fucked to everything is fine except for one fucked thing.

I think they put Cincinnati in a position to not make it. The rest of their schedule isn’t strong at all. Georgia can lose and still be above them. Bama too. Mich St loses, Ohio St takes that spot. Oregon loses Ohio St takes that spot. Michigan and Oklahoma waiting to jump them if they win out. Cincinatti needed to be at 2 or 3 to stay in there.
I think Cincinnati would need a lot more chaos to make the playoff than what people think after the statement the committee made last night. If both Oklahoma and Cincinnati go undefeated, OU will jump Cincinnati at some point in one of the last rankings. I think if Mich St wins every game besides Ohio St, loses that one somewhat close, than both Ohio St and Mich St will finish higher in the last ranking (assuming Ohio St wins out).
Hell - I believe the committee putting Bama at #2 is such a strong statement that they would consider for the first time having a 2 loss team in the playoff depending on what the situation is (which makes no sense).
I just don’t know what the point of the Notre Dame game was for Cincinnati. All off-season the discussion was that would be the measuring stick game for them, and they likely gave ND it’s only L going into bowl season on the road. Wake me up when the expansion season is here.
putting Bama at #2 just seems like we are on a trajectory of getting a 2 loss Bama into the CFP. if the committee doesn't drop them after they lost to unranked AtM, why would they drop them after losing to #1UGA in SECCG? If bama wins out, obv let them in, but being ranked over OU, Cinci, MSU is just blatant name-brand bias. They struggled against UF and for 3 quarters against Tenn, so it's not like they even really pass the bullshit "eye test"
I'd really rather they just took the P5 conference champions and AAC champ and had the top two teams get a bye. Put more importance on conference play (still think it's dumb that LSU won the SEC but Bama won the NC that one year) but with all the realignment I dunno how that will work out.

A&M is ranked 14th...
they weren't when they beat Bama, because it was (apparently not) such a huge deal that bama had lost to an unranked team for the first time in like 100+ games.

Right, but since the committees first rankings were last night, they won't view it as a loss to an unranked team.

ok, sure. so bama lost to the #14 team. OSU lost to the #4 team and they're sitting at 5. I just think bama at 2 is kind of bullshit. you can put undefeated teams ahead of 1 loss teams early in the rankings, and the games will work themsevles out (i.e., if MSU isn't really that good, they'll drop a game and rank). putting a 1 loss bama up there gives them a pretty big moat, and if losing to the #14 team gets you to #2 - what does losing to the #1 team mean? nothing.
