Yeah I dont think its about who sells most or sells out the fastest. I think its just a checkpoint like you either sell $20k tix or you dont then I move on to which I like better.
Do you think everyone in group D sells 20k tix?
It's hard for me to tell if all of them would or none of them would tbh. The real 2019 iii points lineup is hard to analyze given that it didn't sell out with Tyler, Sza, Rocky. I feel like they tried to please two groups at once when they may have had better success if they just went all in on being a D4N replacement. Don't think James Blake and Beach House are enough to get inforoo types to hop on a plane and I don't think Tyler / Rocky fans need to go to an obscure fest in Miami to get their fix. If they would have just planted their flag in the ground as the best D4N style fest left in the US I think they would have actually done better even if the names at the top are technically less popular.
I do think yours would sell out the quickest no doubt.
I have my votes locked in but won’t post till the end cause I don’t want to influence the voting. Although I did use my personal taste to make it a more subjective vote than an official vote.

If we replaced SZA with Aphex Twin and Tyler with Massive Attack we would have sold way less tix. I think you’re overestimating how many music nerds there are in the world and underestimating the normie market potential.

are there lineups here you think wouldn’t sell out the weekend? And if so which ones?

I think there are only like 5 that actually sell out.

which ones? Seems important since general consensus seems to be that selling out is a given for most of the lineups.
Passion Pit, Bing, KPO, Tranter pretty much are guaranteed sell outs. And there are a couple more that could sell out but would require some work on the marketing / promotion end.
I don’t think D4N was ever close to selling out either
It never felt crowded the two years I went. It was great. Too bad the only way to pull it off was for the asshole to ripoff a bunch of vendors and even then they lost a ton of money. It definitely wasn't sustainable.

interesting. I didn’t know sade moved ticket like that

People pay thousands of dollars to see Sade. Bing would need to sell only 2-day passes cause that other day would struggle by itself.
This is the audience wishlist when we asked on our socials who people wanted to see on the lineup. This is helpful but it’s not a perfect indicator of sales because the people that responded are III Points fans who will probably already come. The key to selling out is reaching a wider audience beyond our core people.

despite not having a ton of mainstream appeal at the top, i think getting Portishead's first show in almost a decade, Zero 7's first live show in a decade+, and T&A's first show ever, i'd get enough Pitchfork articles written about the fest to reach sell out.

I'm a huge Portishead fan but there is no way they are a name that sells out this fest.

alone no, but with the other acts with high levels of rarity i think that crowd would show out

I had pegged the first Outkast show in 8 years as an auto sell out but maybe I miscalculated

that might be because they were just everywhere that summer. i think we should be looking at the big gets like Sade, Outkast, Portishead, Kate Bush, Fugees if they were taken, as single comeback shows, not part of a comeback tour.
"Bad Bunny was the most-streamed artist globally with more than 8.3 billion streams in 2020. The Puerto Rican rapper released an album in February, “YHLQMDLG,” which was Billboard’s highest charting all-Spanish-language album ever. His album was also Spotify’s most-streamed album of the year."

Kate Bush isn't the appeal in the US that she is in the UK but it's still an artist with a huge following who's never played the US or done any touring in 40 years. Anecdotal but I remember listening to some podcast in 2013 and the guest they had on said she was flying from the US to go see Before The Dawn. This is also the first time I'd heard of Kate Bush other than all the press her residency got, even in the US.

I like the lineup but does Tame/Solange/Rufus really sell this out? They don't seem like they would move a ton more tickets than some of the past big names that have played the fest. Looks like that upcoming Tame show in Miami is going to be really undersold.
This was extremely difficult and I might still change my mind on a couple. Just wanted to save my work for now. Some of these fests that I ranked in the bottom two of their group had some of my favorite single days runs of the entire draft (Todd/Jortles/Sang's day 1 and Kvothe/Bing/James' day 2 come to mind). I will probably go back and look at them all as a whole before voting is finalized. You all did a good job fwiw.
