So I’m going solo for all 6 days and it’s my first so I’m a bit lost. I’ve done a little bit of looking around but basically if I want an affordable stay for that long it’s looking like my only option is a private room at an Airbnb in providence. Is there any secret spots or anything I’m over looking as a closer option.
i mean it really depends on what "affordable" means to you - there's a ton that's way, way closer than providence
I’m going on the weekdays and I’m hyped so far but nervous for when more weekend announcements start rolling out. Big Thief are the one that’d get me to try for a weekend ticket if they got announced
Also I’m assuming/hoping the artists who haven’t announced a specific date will be around for both
Yeah I wondered why the no dates listed for some, illy Tsrings announcing both feats was interesting l. Kind of crossing my fingers one of them is a billy and the Kids with Billy strings set
I’m thinking it’s just an oversight. Artists get excited to announce that they’re playing Newport, and might not even think about narrowing it down to a particular date. And Newport isn’t asking them to.
Although, there are some cases where an artist has added a specific date to their tour and Newport still has them as TBA for date: Lake Street, Langhorne, and Allison Russell come to mind. I wonder if that’s for a particular reason or if just an oversight on Newport’s part.
Most surprising, I’d expect most overlap to happen between Sunday and Monday. But we’re just about done with artists to be announced for Monday (assuming we’re right in guessing 5 or 6 per stage per day) and Billy Strings is the only overlap. (Although Aoife is one of those artists with a specific date on her tour but TBA listed by Newport. She has Monday listed, but has Sunday available on her tour.)

Motel 6 & Rhodeway Inn are probably your cheapest bets, but both are a bit of a walk/uber/ferry combo to the festival unless you're driving. I've stayed at both and not really had any issues walking to the ferry just about every day unless there was rain. You can also check airbnb listings in the downtown area, but those are probably more expensive. As far as airbnbs go, you're probably better off checking middletown if I had to guess. Providence might not be bad this year, since no after shows and no need to worry about getting home outside of a ferry unless you plan on staying downtown after festival is done for the day.

My guess as to why more weekday dates are being made available (which occurred to me after the Middle Brother announcement).....it's not an oversight, but is by design. My theory is that they are trying to manage the Lyte queue, which is far longer for the weekend than for weekdays, and people posting tix on Lyte for M-W are being offered less than what they paid due to this lower demand. Among other things, the NFF folks have a great interest in maintaining peoples' faith in the Lyte system (which has generally worked well) so that people don't opt for the third-party market. I might be wrong, but that's my sense.
According to the updated info on the website, the stages are Quad and Lawn Whatever that is…
Wonder if they do a “in the round” style in the fort area.
But it does look like both stages will have Chair sections and no chair sections. Also, no coverings at the stages this year.
I think "chair" sections are for bring your own and there prob won't be any chairs set up by NFF this year. I am curious about the Lawn section too. It's be cool if they set the stage water side and let people walk directly through to the Quad where the Fort backstage used to be. Round would be fun. Prob going to be off to one of the sides though. So excited for a new layout no matter what the configuration!

No coverings at the stages! The tent shade is the only thing that makes it survivable for us. Going to need to find some sort of shade this year. Do we know if the museum is open?
