Lovely Highwoman, Grammy winner, and wife to Jason Isbell, Amanda Shires confirmed for the 23rd.
Obviously this now makes Isbell a shoe-in. Whether it’s a full set or stand ins we’ll see him there. I would love to see a solo acoustic isbell set. Was lucky enough to see it once and I prefer it to the 400 unit by a large margin personally

Why is he a shoe in
Married, typically jump in on each other’s sets. Folk Fest staple. Gap in tour

Also, with the Dimmer Twins being there already and their recent Live at Shoals Theatre with Isbell release just coming out it could be a perfect time for some guest spots with some of those tunes.
well its Vernon and Dessner, certainly. i mean, that's the band.
but yeah JV previewed some tracks a while back and she was on one so im sure there's a feature at least
This is the kit, and Fleet Foxes also shared the promo for it. Not sure if they were showing support, or if they’re on it though.
It was announced a while back that Pecknold is on "the project". Not sure if that means he's featured on a song or the whole album or if the band has expanded though. I'm hoping for the latter.
Upcoming Shows: August 7: Green Day/Smashing Pumpkins/Rancid/The Linda Lindas August 30: Waxahatchee/Snail Mail/Tim Heidecker September 17: Pearl Jam/Glen Hansard September 24: Idles/English Teacher

JV previewed one song with Pecknold on it. Definitely don’t think he’s in the whole thing because pecknold was in the comments during the stream and asked if “his song” had been played yet and was super bummed to find out that it had been already

Out in August, the new How Long Do You Think It’s Gonna Last? also features a noteworthy cast of pals including Sharon Van Etten, Fleet Foxes’ Robin Pecknold, Ilsey, Naaem, Lisa Hannigan, Shara Nova (aka My Brightest Diamond), La Force, Ben Howard, This Is The Kit, and Bonny Light Horseman’s Anaïs Mitchell, who is on opener and lead single “Latter Days” plus two more tracks. Hear that song below in a lyric video by Michael Brown.

I'd love to see them do a set together like the stuff they were doing over quarantine.
i'd be happy for an Isbell appearance, I just don't agree with the "they're married so they go everywhere together" angle of it
he's got a break in his tour but he's in Montana before and then back out to Utah for 7/30, just not sure if he'd fly back to the east coast rather than spend additional time picking up shows in that part of the country
Thankfully, it looks like there was a change of heart in regard to an untented Quad:
"Quad Stage is covered with limited seating. Seating is first-come, first-served in these locations. You may be asked to leave this section between sets to give other fans an opportunity to sit in those sections."

My official guess for the 6 headliners (not counting collective sets)
My Morning Jacket Fleet Foxes Randy Newman Big Red Machine Jeff Tweedy Elton John
As far as a collective superjam type thing, aside from the already announced “What’s Going On” I’m really hoping for a John Prine tribute set
dial back expectations a bit, i think
Certainly could be over doing it lol. I get the impression from jay that he’s had a lot of people ask to play and I feel like Newport is a very inviting environment for a Return to stage. Elton might be a stretch but I could see everyone else welcoming Newport as their “get back on the horse” moment

Of the 5 times I’ve seen Isbell, they’ve always played together, so I do get the impression that they frequent each other’s sets. But I get it’s not a done deal, I just feel like the gap was left for him to make Newport. I mean it’s that or wait for 12 days over on the West side of the country.

I'm hoping the Brandi friendship with Elton pays dividends for Newport. I think he'd love it and it could be a career favorite of his like it became for Dolly. I think if it is to happen then 2022 looks way more realistic considering his tour dates next year.

Sucks - that tent is pretty annoying.
Agree. The tent screws up sight lines for anyone outside of it. And with only 2 stages (maybe set up so there’s no artist overlap?), I expect both of them to be crowded for performances.
I’d prefer a situation where Newport just added some tents in the back of the lawns to give people a chance to get out of the sun.
Especially when Deer Tick is probably closing out Wednesday. Pretty sure they were supposed to last year.
If they do close out, I’m still hoping for a Nicks appearance with them.
I don’t see any indications that artists are going to rush to get the band together to play a one off set at Newport. Even most announcements are solo artists so far.
That said, I could see Jim James and Friends as a headliner instead of My Morning Jacket. Jeff Tweedy and Friends instead of a Wilco. (As you guessed). Deer Tick and Middle Brother might be two of our headliners already. Same with Randy Newman. So maybe not too far off.
