For those that were hoping Deer Tick would do their own aftershows this year. July schedule is up on Blues Cafe website, and they are already booked Thurs Fri Sat Sun Wed.
So it seems unlikely.
I’m actually kinda looking forward to a no rush experience this year.

Same - A slower paced festival will be nice for a change. However, I'm pretty bummed out we're bringing another couple for their first festival and it's a shame they're not going to get the full experience.
Not to mention, we all favor the indie side of folk and we're only going for the weekend which is looking to be way more country heavy so far. Hopefully Waxahatchee and Morby will be weekend otherwise I'm really gonna regret not rolling over to next year.
Upcoming Shows: August 7: Green Day/Smashing Pumpkins/Rancid/The Linda Lindas August 30: Waxahatchee/Snail Mail/Tim Heidecker September 17: Pearl Jam/Glen Hansard September 24: Idles/English Teacher
Yeah, as someone who's never been before and has weekend tickets right now, I might return them. Everyone I really like so far (Deer Tick, Julien Baker, Lake Street Dive) are Mon-Wed. And beyond that, I just don't know that it's worth the work/logistics for something seemingly pared-down.

To be fair…they have not announced much for the weekend. Don’t sleep on it….I still bet it’s gonna be better than the weekdays

For me personally, it’s at least more unique stuff thus far. There are plenty of acts I’m bummed I’ll miss on the m-w lineup but I’ve seen all of them at least once before.

This. I am happy with my Mon to Fri lineup so far. Middle Brother is a unicorn for me. Julien Baker put out my favorite album so far this year. But I’m jealous of the unique sets that the weekend folks get. Most of the weekday stuff is Newport’s Greatest Hits (who wouldn’t catch nearly as much interest on any other lineup that’s not Newport Folk, many who have played in the last 5 years). But that weekend has a unique Andrew Bird set, a What’s Going On cover set (most likely unique and one off), and a legendary musician who hasn’t played Newport (at least not recently; has he ever?), and that’s all so far with a lot more to be announced.

Stapleton is looking mighty likely for the weekend too.

If your'e planning on selling, Ill gladly take a weekend pass.

Bittersweet. By choosing Mon - Wed, this is my first chance to stay in downtown Newport for the festival (caught a hotel before they could adjust for increased demand). While it would have been nice to be able to stumble back from an after show, I am happy to be able to explore town after hours without having to head to an after show (assuming things are back to normal post-Covid, I feel comfortable doing so, and things are open early in the week).

he'd be one of the biggest headliners they've ever booked
They didn’t announce the whole lineup last year. Unless you have info that wasn’t known.
Stapleton does already have a Jay connection from his headling Pilgrimage set. Just saying.
To be fair though, I would expect things a lot more toned down this year. If Stapleton plays maybe you get a Chris & Morgane set type of deal. You're going from 10,0000 a day to 5,000 I'd be expecting a lot more intimate stuff instead of over the top.
I would expect a lot more solo acoustic / pared back type of sets with a guest jumping in here for a song or a few. At this point you've got Lake Street Dive, Deer Tick, Middle Brother and Marcus King Band that sound like possible full band / production sets announced. Not that none of the artists couldn't still do that or other announcements couldn't be big, but if you go in expecting that in a year where Newport is "trying to keep the lights on", I'm worried you're going to be disappointed. Just my 2 cents.
I would still love to be there this year, but unfortunately 2021 seems to have asked 2020 to hold its beer and not sure my body will be recovered enough from chemo for 3 days in the elements. Has anyone heard anything else about possible online streaming of content? I know Jay mentioned it earlier, but I haven't seen anything mentioned since.Lookinh to squeeze even a little of that Newport magic in this year even if I can't be there in person.

For what it’s worth, I heard a while back that the Highwomen were playing again this year. Right now 3/4 are booked for the weekend so could be, I guess.

Highwomen / Middle Brother / Boygenius / Monsters of Folk lol
would rip but two of those are ruled out
How so?
Boygenius would be possible on Friday or Monday, from posted tour dates. Friday may be less likely because it would require Julien to be in the area at the opposite ends of the fests. Monday would be tough for Lucy, but not impossible, as it just requires NY to RI to NY.
What’s ruling out MOF other than the fact that Bright Eyes has a tour starting in the New England area on that Tuesday?

I guess I should replace "ruled out" with "made extremely unlikely by current tour dates", does that satisfy?

They’re very different, given that the second is more an interpretation. Especially now that we know Lucy is on the lineup. I’m guessing we may see Bright Eyes/Conor pop up in some capacity as well. It’s probably not a huge coincidence that he planned a New England tour to start Newport week now two years in a row.
