Not Newport Specifically, but I've done countless festivals with children of all ages. AMA.
Our little guy is pale as milk so my biggest question is: what do you do for sun protection?
Others that spring to mind is what do you do about attention span? Do you move stages (other than into the family tent?)
He’s two so anything else you think is useful is much appreciated.
I definitely move from stage to stage. Wagons are awesome! I always hang in the back so the kids can roam around a bit. I bring a lot of glow sticks to line a blanket for when the sun goes down. I don't worry about attention span. I started all of my kids at festivals as babies and so it became normal. By the time they were 10 i would let them off on their own at smaller camping festivals. I think it made them independent.
For sun protection. a hat for when they dont have a lot of hair and sunscreen. They've all had the occasional sunburn...but i'm not going to lose sleep over that.

Many Thanks! Will probably post a bunch more questions as we get closer...IF we get tickets, which is a big if.
Valerie June is playing Green River Fest according to Bandsintown. I don't think they've announced their lineup yet. I'd love if Valerie came back to the Fort, been listening to her new album a good bit
I feel like if the event is modified for restrictions, it might be fewer artists at only two stages, Quad and Fort with no Quad tent so that air can move easily. No Harbor and no Museum. Just a thought.
"You look like you're listening to every note." - Lady to me during LCD's "final" show 2023: Mar 29 - Guster Apr 6 - Postmodern Jukebox Apr 26 - Father John Misty May 14 - Taylor Swift (Philly) May 17 - Robert Plant and Alison Krauss July 12 - moe. July 16 - CAKE (Portland, ME) July 28-30 - Newport Folk (#12!) Dec 8-9 - Goosemas!
Any thoughts about how they are going to handle the tickets that carried over via revival memberships? Seems like if it’s not a normal festival, it’s hard to hold people to tickets that were purchased with the expectation that it was going to be a normal festival? Will those carry over to 2022? Will they be for 2021, regardless? Or will purchasers get the choice whether to use them in 2021 or 2022?
The website says, "two unique 3-day events of surprise performances, storytelling, and workshops at Fort Adams – July 23rd through July 25th and July 26th through July 28th." Makes me wonder if a lineup will be announced at all or if they will keep it a surprise. I'd also imagine this means less stages than the usual

It’s official: 2-3 day events for NFF! First block is July 23-25. Second block is July 26-28.
Tickets not on sale yet.
I'll eat my words. Well done, beaker.
Now to figure out if I can go all 6 days or you have to choose one or the other. Also how my Revival membership fits in.
I'd imagine they won't want people going to both, just in keeping things fair and letting as many people come as they can, but boy will I be bummed about whatever amazing things I miss

Yeah, if it's different artists/sets on both days I for sure would like to attend both. If it's like a Coachella type of thing where it's the same artists (though obviously different sets/surprises) then it'll be less of a priority to do both.

Wondering how this will all work out.
With how Newport books/pays artists, my inclination is to think it'll be somewhere in the middle.
All these artists are finally going back on tour and I think it'll be tough to ask some of them to hang around that long, but obviously there are plenty of artists that would love to stay at Newport for a week, or could route other Northeast dates in their off days like they do with Coachella or ACL. But them calling them "unique" makes me think they intend for at least a fair amount of differentiation between the 2

If Taylor Swift plays the dates I don't attend, there will be hell (really... just incredible FOMO).

I think Newport will luck out as most tours don't seem to be starting until September when festival season kicks into gear. Newport may serve as the kick off for some of these artists. It wouldn't be too hard to book an artist for Sunday and then have them hang around until Monday. Although, I wonder how "good will" of artists taking pay cuts to play Newport will work in a year like this when many of them may not be able to do so. And, unlike Coachella, I can't imagine that artists will see 2x the pay, when each festival only operates at half (or limited) capacity. Although, I wonder if there are no capacity constraints at that time if we end up seeing 2 10,000 person attendance festivals (this would coincide with Newport's announcement that tickets will be released over time rather than all at once... they probably will release more tickets as capacity constraints change).
And now for some random hopes/predictions that weren't on the 2020 lineup:
fuck it Neil Young Robin Pecknold The Weather Station My Morning Jacket Ryley Walker (long overdue) Arlo Parks Angel Olsen Julien Baker Lord Huron T Swift Mdou Moctar Langhorne Slim Low Cut Connie
I would erase images of recent festivals, with the large stages and easy movement. I could envision perhaps one main stage with separated seating sections and no standing up front. Beyond that, smaller stages, seating circles, perhaps even more use of the outside land. I think of the early days of "Newport" when George Wein attempted workshops, but they were poorly attended as people were in such a rush to see the latest hot performers. However, I think good planning could make these wonderfully. A few years ago at the Clearwater Hudson Revival Revival, I recall standing in awe with about tow dozen people as Rhiannon Giddens stood under a tree with her guitars, playing and talking about her interest in Celtic music and debates on cultural appropriation. It was magical, especially when she took to therein stage a few hours later.
I am lucky enough to have the money to afford both events -- although the hotels would kill me -- but never in my wildest dreams would I try. I think it so wrong, and hope Newport finds a way to reduce those who try. I also highly suggest anyone on the fence about vaccinations to get your damn jab (maybe even booster shot by then). I would expect it will a lot easier to get in that way. I can't imagine ferries and busses packed with people, so we might even see more alternative sites. Perhaps you will have to choose beforehand.
Who knows. Just guessing. I'm sure there will be some streaming, live or recorded, as well.
Just looking back at the 2020 lineup and remembering how awesome it was. I was going to list the acts I most wanted to carryover, but realized I was just typing out half of the lineup anyways. So I'll add those who I hope get added in addition to the ones I want to carryover:
Silk Sonic Taylor Swift Bright Eyes Julien Baker Better Oblivion Community Center (I mean if Bright Eyes and Phoebe are on the lineup, might as well give us some BOCC jams) Lucy Dacus Boygenius (same sentiment as with BOCC; just have Phoebe play a different set every day and hope she can remember all of the music) Whitney Lord Huron Matt Berninger (solo) Kishi Bashi Bibio Orville Peck
I could be crazy. But a heck of a lot of artists are struggling and those who are not but want to help the others, will be there. Look ttop comics are walking on stages in NYC for free. I wouldn't worry about anyone but megastars and silly agencies holding firm to prices. And if they do, adios to them. Again, I could be crazy, but like half the usual 10,000? The gates and transportation alone would be impossible.
Agree, this is probably more a low key festival with acts like of Low-cut Connie (or just Adam Weiner and his guitarist); Langhorne Slim on acoustic talking about the isolation and depression that guided his latest release; videos and sing-alongs (Choir! Choir)? Newer groups like Upstate. Ok, James Taylor, probably, because he promised. Mavis because she is an icon. Brandi because that's who she is. This is a year about gathering the vibes and community. And you know Jauy is going to want to help out as many struggling musicians as they can.
