Some indications they also may have had Fiona Apple booked from what I recall?
If they were doing a traditional fest, I would predict Spoon plays this year. Pretty surprised they haven't yet. Same with Damien Jurado. I actually could see Fiona showing up this year
Missed the first 15 minutes of Jay on Instagram, anything groundbreaking announced? Basically just sounded like 'be patient' was the message I heard be reiterated.

Not gonna be called Newport Folk Fest 2 Stages Covid Negative Required / Vax Optional Will be sold in 3 day chunks. No single day option, no kids priced tickets. If you have a membership and don’t want to go this year, their will be “options”
No announced artists. His dream come true They will be selling beer No after shows as of right now Totally unique lineups with maybe a couple of artists overlapping
I'm just assuming that tickets for this, even the Mon-Wed one, will be a pain in the ass to get. I'll probably try, but I'm assuming I won't be there this year.
And of course it'll be the year Migos finally plays the Fort.

Yeah, I'm not a member unfortunately so I am going to try but not holding my breath that I'll be able to get tickets. I really want to get them and go but for now will go in with lowered expectations.
Since I drag someone who knows nothing about folk music to the festival with me, no announcements is tough. I really think he and the artists shoot themselves in the foot by not giving people a chance to explore and get amped first. (But understand the alternative mindset. Especially if an act wants to get Boston money the night before heading to the festival.)

I have always gone back and forth on the unannounced lineup. On the one hand - I know my personal tastes and style and know that (based on the last decade or two of lineups) whatever they pull together will win me over. Whether it's new acts I'm just hearing for the first time or long time favorites.
But I agree about wanting to do a little research and listening before-hand. And definitely get where you're coming from about bringing someone who isn't as obsessive over this genre as some of us are.
I would recommend making a playlist or something featuring past NFF playlists/artists and just fill it up with many of the acts we know have shown up to NFF and love it.
I trust in Jay Sweet. But I also like planning out my conflicts if I can help it lol
My take on Jay's IG talk was this will be a much scaled down, intimate event with small performances taking place in places other than the stages. Lessons, storytelling, sing a long type of things. It sounds like a gathering of true fans of music rather than a big name performance type of thing. Also Jay said no after party performances. I think they are playing it real safe this year then next year will be NFF as we know it. This may not appeal to some people so maybe tickets won't be as hard to get.
I know the members of Big Thief have done some masterclass-type stuff on songwriting, guitar, etc through the pandemic. Would love them to do something similar at the fort
"You look like you're listening to every note." - Lady to me during LCD's "final" show 2023: Mar 29 - Guster Apr 6 - Postmodern Jukebox Apr 26 - Father John Misty May 14 - Taylor Swift (Philly) May 17 - Robert Plant and Alison Krauss July 12 - moe. July 16 - CAKE (Portland, ME) July 28-30 - Newport Folk (#12!) Dec 8-9 - Goosemas!
I’m still so curious about so much, even with the above information.
My latest thought is if I should hold on to the Revival membership ticket and push it back to 2022 while trying against the ticket gods for the week day event (assuming it’ll be in less demand than the weekend event). If that’s an option.
New Big Red Machine album coming this year with features from Taylor Swift, Robin Pecknold, Anaïs Mitchell and more. Sounds ripe for the Newport treatment

I got wind of some of the DeerTick finale this past weekend. Let’s just say there is reason they were announced last. Gonna be hard to recreate what they had in store.

This just announced TTB Fireside tour lines up nice with Newport...A smaller configuration of TTB is more affordable than the whole band...
These limited capacity shows will feature different and smaller configurations of the band, with lineups for each show to be confirmed closer to the start of the Tour. All shows are being held in venues that take strict precautions to ensure the safety of fans, staff, band and crew. These live appearances will offer a rare, possibly one-of-a-kind experience for fans to enjoy until the extended band can return in its full 12-piece form as soon as safety permits.
