This just announced TTB Fireside tour lines up nice with Newport...A smaller configuration of TTB is more affordable than the whole band...
These limited capacity shows will feature different and smaller configurations of the band, with lineups for each show to be confirmed closer to the start of the Tour. All shows are being held in venues that take strict precautions to ensure the safety of fans, staff, band and crew. These live appearances will offer a rare, possibly one-of-a-kind experience for fans to enjoy until the extended band can return in its full 12-piece form as soon as safety permits.

Yola just announced new album and that she's playing the weekend Folk fest, as well as Newport Jazz.
This new song is fantastic.
I wouldn’t mind Newport letting artists self announce their appearances at the festival (depending upon whether they think it’s better for them given their tour). Then we’ll get a mixture of known acts and surprises. And there will be a scavenger hunt to track down the known acts.
So this is our first taste of an artist who might only be playing one set of dates? The Billboard article doesn’t specify, but her announced tour dates only state the weekend festival dates. (Although if she’s doing weekend Folk and Jazz the following weekend, with no announced stops in between, why wouldn’t she also be playing the week day Folk event?)

Is there any likelihood that we end up with 2 10,000 person events? Clearly, Newport started planning for the 2 events as if both were reduced capacity. I’d be a little disheartened if we end up with 10,000 person events but only 2 stages. Or workshops that you can’t attend because there are too many people trying to get close enough to hear.
Looks like a delay. Could they be contemplating a bigger crowd in RI?
A lot of movement and big acts announcing shows for that weekend makes me think that it could move to a regular Folk weekend or larger capacities. Be rad if members got to go to all 6 days due to capacities if the format stays the same.

That’s my first thought. If the artist demand is there to pull off a full fest, why not? Although 10,000 can be tight in the Fort even outside of a pandemic. I have anxiety walking in that tunnel from the Quad to the Harbour between sets as it is. I’d hope we’d max out at 8k or 9k, or if Newport could find a way to move a stage to the parking lots to help spread out.
Are we still expected to make a decision by May 4?

We are pleased to announce that although we will still be operating at a reduced capacity this summer, due to new guidelines set by the State of Rhode Island and the Department of Health, all members can now choose which 3-day event they would like to attend this summer. There is no need to rank your preferences.
