For a minute I thought we might get Tycho since he’s playing Brooklyn on 7/23 and just released a new single with Ben Gibbard, but I missed that he’s playing Red Rocks 7/24 so alas.
I love some Tycho. I’d be down to see Newport book more folktronica (at least one artist each year). I know they’ve booked Beth Orton and came close last year with Sylvan Esso. Maybe some Tunng and/or Lump. I’d really dig a Bibio set as well. And I’m sure there’s a bunch I’m forgetting or haven’t discovered yet.
Edit: I guess Maggie Rogers could fall into this category as well.
yeah i literally had a conversation semi-recently with someone at NFF about them hoping/trying to book electronic acts in the future, I think it happens at some point

Since we know Twain will be on hand I really hope that means we'll also get Buck Meek (if not Big Thief) since he helped on his album. That album was released in January and it's still my favorite of 2021.

Bright Eyes left for their tour yesterday. I'm not knowledgeable about standard start of tour procedures but that seems a bit early if their tour doesn't start until the 27th.
Also looks like Flea and Jon Theodore will be touring with them.

LAWN STAGE With modified capacities, we opted for a more intimate stage presentation for fans out on the North lawn. The Lawn Stage is a big tent that houses a deep stage (this helps our crew load gear in and out). The performance area is near the front of the stage, and fans will have plenty of space to spread out all about the lawn.
QUAD STAGE We're moving the Quad Stage a little further back to create as much room in the Quad for people to spread out as they want to. We'll still be tenting a good portion of the viewing area, and we will be offering "first come first serve" chairs in part of the tent.
BUSKING STAGE Although we can't have the entire folk family with us this year in our normal layout, we wanted to make sure that some traditions are still honored. At the start of each day and in between Lawn Stage sets, there will be open-mic sessions, pop-up performances, and workshops on the Busking Stage.
As much as I like the busking stage idea, I am pretty bummed we won't have the museum "stage" this year. I've always enjoyed the unique things that I've got in there from both known artists and more obscure pieces just the same. With the reduced crowd it wouldn’t have been as insane to get into either.

The busking stage seems to be a mix between the Museum Stage and the Kids Tent. We know from artists’ announcements that some have been booked just to play the Busking Stage. A mix of scheduled programming and pop up sets. I actually prefer this to the museum because I assume it’ll be able to accommodate more people. And in a year of a pandemic (and with the Delta variant getting really bad), I’m glad it’s also open air.

After Jay’s playlist went public (he shared a story on Instagram and it was picked up by the Facebook group), Bleachers and Nathaniel Rateliff removed from Jay’s playlist. Phosphorescent remains. Not sure if this means anything (one could argue that Jay wants to respect these artists’ decision to self-announce or that they were just on a playlist that Jay was creating and assumed was private), but figured I’d mention it.

Jay had a live IG stream earlier and mentioned the playlist.
Fast forwarding this from the 2020 thread where I accidentally posted it. Thanks Kim for the heads up. --------
Can't wait to see Joy Oladokun. Apparently a video of Tracy Chapman inspired her to learn guitar when she was 10. Can definitely see the influence.
Rolling Stone: Joy Oladokun appeared from the National Museum of African American Music in Nashville, Tennessee, for a performance on The Late Show. Armed with only a guitar and a microphone, the singer gave an emotional, intimate rendition of her song “Sunday.”
“Bigger Man,” Joy Oladokun’s new collaboration with Maren Morris.
In 2020, during the Black Lives Matter movement Oladokun released "Who Do I Turn To?" a ballad co-written with Natalie Hemby.
Anyone go to Ballroom Thieves lay night? Wondering if they mentioned Newport and that’s the source of the FB rumor.
I went Friday and they did not mention Newport at all. They did say (as was announced) that this weekend in Cambridge/Portland were/are Dev's last shows with the band. Would be kinda weird to say that over and over again and then have them be at Newport. I suppose they could have the new lineup together and debut next weekend, but they didn't say anything about it either way.
