Finally getting around to listening to the artists I'm unfamiliar with this year and there's a lot to like. Sierra Ferrell, S.G. Goodman, and Elijah Wolf have all wowed me.
I have chills in anticipation of hearing S.G. Goodman play "The Way I Talk" at the Fort.
I love you Deer Tick, but maybe don’t ship your Live from Fort Adams vinyl to be delivered while we’re on our way to Fort Adams to see you at this year’s Newport Folk Fest (especially when it wasn’t supposed to be released until after the festival)… With this heatwave, that’s going to be one melted vinyl by the time I get home. 😂

That's rough. I have a criterion blu-ray coming on Saturday that wasn't supposed to arrive until the 26th. Any packages that sit in my mail room for more than 48 hours have a tendency to disappear so I'm a little upset about that but at least it's not a limited item like the DT vinyl.

4th episode of the Festival Circuit is out. A lot of the episode focuses on Our Native Daughters. Hearing just 10 seconds of Mama's Crying immediately brought the emotion back from that set. That's probably the most intense thing I've ever seen at the festival.

you can have your mail put on hold, you can even do it online!

Ohhh, it was put on hold. Packages seem to be hit or miss when there’s a mail hold with USPS (sometimes a separate truck will deliver packages). And App updates seem to never reflect where they are either; it says “delivered to mailbox” but my fingers are crossed that it was held aside with my other mail.

App is updated. Looks like no schedule until day of.
I get this decision, but we don’t even know when the music starts each day yet…
Event info says “noon”, but that was the same for Jazz Fest, and the Quad Stage at the Jazz Fest starts at 11:20 AM each day. Not to mention possibility for busking to start earlier as well.

The point I was making is that “MUSIC: 12 PM” is also found on Newport Jazz’s 2021 info. But we have a schedule for Newport Jazz and we know that music actually starts earlier, at 11:20 AM.

Busking starts at 11am at Newport. So probably 11:20 as well.
As a weekend attendee, there are three immediate happy surprises (though not that shocking): 1. Nathaniel Rateliff... can't get enough of him and happy to have two sets 2. Allison Russell. Have been loving her new album. Shocked/pleased that they are giving her a closing set on Sunday. Imagine it is a collaborative set that she is facilitating like Jon Baptiste. 3. Phosphorescent.
Only disappointment is no Jeff Tweedy/Wilco. Also see myself wanting to be at the lawn stage a lot and always struggle with the sun all day.
