I wasn't. If you arrive at a hotel and they tell you they oversold, with a note that says "We am sorry, but we will have a upgraded room ready for you tomorrow", would you take it and not say anything at all?
Proper actions would be: 1. Apologize, no typos. Do it from a computer if phone screen is too small. 2. Take responsibility head-on, not "it's the young team who did this and I wasn't aware". Jay makes $380k a year and have been in the industry for decades; those young people make much less. 3. Drop that "she is rebooked at a better stage now, so we are all set" attitude.
Perhaps I’d take you seriously if you didn’t have the typos.
I made the typos on purpose, so you just proved my point.
3 full bands in a row on the Lawn Stage is a great way to start Folk On. Feels just like a normal day at Folk Fest. (I was afraid Erin Rae or CMA would be playing solo.)

"You look like you're listening to every note." - Lady to me during LCD's "final" show 2023: Mar 29 - Guster Apr 6 - Postmodern Jukebox Apr 26 - Father John Misty May 14 - Taylor Swift (Philly) May 17 - Robert Plant and Alison Krauss July 12 - moe. July 16 - CAKE (Portland, ME) July 28-30 - Newport Folk (#12!) Dec 8-9 - Goosemas!
Many thanks to Middle Brother who genuinely seem to have been caught up in a mess not of their making. I am grateful to them for reaching out to me today and for being so kind. I sincerely hope we now can all just play great shows and that the audience digs it
Edit: My only complaint is this. I wish people would spend a little less time covering Dylan and more time writing their own great original songs

Damn, this is the best day of Folk Fest I may have ever experienced. And I don’t even give a damn about tonight’s upcoming headliner.
It’s empty. Everyone is into it. It took me three minutes to get through check in, bag check, and the gates. Our seats are super close to the stage even though we got in 15 minutes after doors open.
Erin Rae brought it with her full band. CMA brought it with her full band. Fruit Bats not only brought the band but added Josh Kaufman, and it was my first time dancing to live music in over a year.
Now I’m sitting here in my close seats waiting to sing along to Middle Brother and dance to the Night Sweats. Plus Ben Gibbard and Billy Strings!
And getting giddy about tomorrow because we love Fred Armisen and Bleachers.

You really shouldn’t assume anything about people you don’t know. Newport Folk is an expensive trip that we couldn’t afford this year because we had this party instead. Several people/friends help make it happen. A once in a lifetime type of thing.
and Jay apologized. Several times.
Im not being arrogant at all. Im being sympathetic to all parties involved.
Emma called on the internet. She called Taylor, John, Matt, and Jay Sweet mysogonists by saying “Three men erased her set” which turns out wasn’t actually the case. It’s why the internet isn’t the place to hash out your grievances. Because if you get it wrong, there is no eraser.
Sorry about my wrong assumption! I just personally hate the idea of "put on your big boy pants" when the person is justified to be upset.
After I read your comment, I do agree that Emma's tweet is more targeted than it could have been.
I still think Jay should have be more considerate in his apology, though. The whole "I need to let me my team sleep" with the typo just reads lazy. Jay gets paid $380k a year and I always thought highly of him as a thoughtful leader. I get that mistakes happen, but his apologize was his one shot on the internet to make it right, and it read rushed. Would you accept an apology that reads "I am am sorry"?
Again, sorry about making the assumption about your situation. That's insensitive of me and I hope you all had a good time.
I appreciate this response. And I’m glad Emma Swift kind of apologized to Middle Brother.
It’s too bad people are afraid to just talk to each other anymore, then these typoed apologies online wouldn’t matter.
And it WAS a blast My initial reason for even telling the story was to vouch for MLV, who is as solid as they come.
Jay didn’t handle it well. He’ll suck it up (hopefully) and take his lumps. I don’t think he needs people on the internet to stick up for him tho. He’s a big boy on a big salary.
Very big salary
Holy shit, I didn’t realize it was that big. That’s wild

Billy is taking over. He’s got to be one of the most talked about artist I see from the recent fests and shows he’s played. The kid is killing it. It’s fun to watch
Place really cleared out at the end. Felt kindof bad for brothers of a feather. Sounded great, but kindof a boring closing set. Wish I didn't have to work the next two days. I knew I should've just taken the whole week.
If anyone has a grey dad hat would love to buy from you or exchange for a blue one! Thanks! Merch situation was very annoying
I was in the merch line at 1130 this morning and still missed the yeti water bottle. The place was still virtually empty at that time. I can't imagine they had more than 50 for sale, which is pretty ridiculous...
Someone is getting covid at that Yola show. Pretty sure I caught other diseases there pre-covid for the Deer Tick aftershows. There was no reduced capacity.

I didn’t mask up but it’s fine because something in this Motel6 will kill me first. It’s turned into an absolute dump this year.
Light switch walking in doesn’t work - there isn’t even a light that it’s supposed to turn on Bathroom door is a temporary basic door with no actual door knob/handle and it doesn’t even close! You can see the outline of the old wall fixtures and where they hadn’t painted behind them; rust on the wall from the previous headboard Pieces of the A/C are missing - and the filters were clogged like a dryer filter gets They painted over the smoke detector that explicitly says do not paint on it Multiple fixtures are just missing and only have the mounting bracket
The hallway has kids running up and down it at all hours. We were in line to get in Friday morning talking to beaker about it and some girls near us were like “wait, are you staying at the Motel6 too?”
Our hallway has an absolutely putrid smell in it a few doors down; like something is rotting in it
The back doors don’t need your cards to get in, they’re just left unlocked 24/7
There’s random bicycles and shopping carts strewn all over the rear parking lot.
It’s a Motel6 so I’m not expecting much and it’s had its issues when I’ve stayed here in the past but they were all things that were understandable and easy for them to address, but this is on a whole other level
