Is Billie Eilish’s new single indicative of her upcoming album? Or just a one off sound?
Taylor Swift headlining the weekend event, Billie Eilish headlining the weekday event
Nah it’ll be a while before Billie’s at the “I’m gonna take a MASSIVE pay cut to play a festival I have no connection to” stage of her career.
It’d be cool though. I could see it in like... 15 years or so
I’m not familiar with Billie beyond what I’ve heard on alternative radio, and I just assumed she was a copy of Lorde. (Nothing against that, I like the music I’ve heard.)
But this single “Your Power” sounds like a copy and paste from the Phoebe Bridgers, Julien Baker, Lucy Dacus, Japanese Breakfast scene. (Still good. But I’d wish more fame on the true movers in that sub genre.)

To me, The National or Big Red Machine has to be performing for TS to make an appearance. Like, she needs to be someone’s plus-one. Otherwise, it could be awkward, as she doesn’t seem to have much of a connection to the rest of NFF family. Could be James Taylor or Maren Morris or James Taylor too.
BTW, Big Red Machine seems to have a new album coming, so there’s hope.
Totally missed that this board had been created. Am very excited about Newport this year.
Just saw the lineup for Green River Fest and am trying to convince my family that it is worth the time and money. Has anyone been? Is it at all close to a Newport vibe or is it full of drunks elbowing their way to the front in order to talk over the music?

I’ve never been. But I’m going this year for the first time.

I’ve been and it had the same vibe but more low key. I think the fairgrounds are smaller than the community college where it used to be so it might be a little less spacious than before. I believe capacity was always 5 or 6k so even with a slightly smaller venue I don’t see it feeling cramped or pushy in anyway. I am curious how the field will be laid out.

Do we think there's any chance the Tennis Hall of Fame could be used this year for either official festival space or after party space? Looking at their website, it looks like they have an event the week before the festival but nothing the week of. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Deer Tick to play and after party there because I just booked my airbnb and it's literally next door to the Hall of Fame.
Upcoming Shows: August 7: Green Day/Smashing Pumpkins/Rancid/The Linda Lindas August 30: Waxahatchee/Snail Mail/Tim Heidecker September 17: Pearl Jam/Glen Hansard September 24: Idles/English Teacher

Green River Festival is so much fun. It is so serene watching the hot air balloons coming in at sunset. I grew up outside Greenfield and have been attending the festival for years. It is a community festival and very family friendly. I have been taking my kids since they were born. Good people local, amazing local food trucks and berskshire brewing brews some tasty beers.
This just announced TTB Fireside tour lines up nice with Newport...A smaller configuration of TTB is more affordable than the whole band...
These limited capacity shows will feature different and smaller configurations of the band, with lineups for each show to be confirmed closer to the start of the Tour. All shows are being held in venues that take strict precautions to ensure the safety of fans, staff, band and crew. These live appearances will offer a rare, possibly one-of-a-kind experience for fans to enjoy until the extended band can return in its full 12-piece form as soon as safety permits.

Ah, I have to make a decision on my Membership tickets by the end of the day today.
What did anyone else in this situation decide? What are the rest of you thinking in terms of choosing a set of dates?
My thoughts:
1) I could postpone my tickets until next year. I will still try to get tickets in the market for this year if I decide that I want to go (especially if we have more information?). This banks on the idea that a) tickets won't be too hard to come by this year with two sets of dates, one set being midweek, b) tickets will be harder to come by next year again when the festival returns to normal, and c) that if I strike out on getting tickets this year I won't be too disappointed given the limited festival (I am all about the music and less about instrument workshops; my wife does not follow folk music and usually requires months of listening to a playlist of announced artists to get super excited for the festival to the point where she can sing along).
2) I could put in for the weekend dates. I expect the weekend to be the more prominent of the two dates. My expectations might be bigger artists on the weekend dates? First time collaborations between artists. At the very least, bigger crowds and more excitement (everyone wants to be the first). And, if I needed to resell my tickets at a later time, probably more demand on the resale market. (And similarly, if I decide later to do the week day tickets instead, I expect that they will be marginally easier to come by.)
3) I could put in the for the week dates. Honestly, the biggest benefit of this is that I have a hotel booked in the heart of Newport for the week dates. And I will save money on flights, rental cars, and lodging. Downsides: might be harder to resell the tickets; if plans change, it might be harder to get access to weekend tickets. It's more likely something might come up at work or in life that would prevent me from attending a weekday music festival. And... there's less excitement when you know someone else just did the exact same thing a few days earlier.

I went with weekday. I thought it would be easier to get another ticket in the general sale for weekday since I only have one ticket to carry over. Also, there seemed to be more Airbnbs to choose from with those dates. As for who is playing the fest, if this was a normal year, I’d agree 100% that the weekend would be the way to go headliners wise. But since tours are only starting to slowly roll out, I think it will be pretty level for both events. But who knows, that may be wishful thinking.

I went with weekend because I already had lodging booked.

I took weekday tickets, I figured it was better for the fest to not tie up money for another year. So now I get a few extra days at the beach, plus never miss a Wednesday show!
Thanks everyone! After talking it through with my +1, we settled on weekday. It's great to see so many of you will be in attendance then as well! (Let's hope they set aside some merchandise for us!) Excited to stay in downtown Newport for once, and hoping with decreased capacity that we may be able to take the ferry back and forth without much wait (unless there are also capacity limits on the ferry ride as well which offsets the fewer people at the festival...)

New Lump (Marling/Lindsay) album coming July 30th. First single sounds great!
YESSSS. I was sad enough that they didn't play Newport after their last album that I went to London to see them live. (I half kid. I did see them in London. But I just happened to be there for work already and stumbled upon someone selling a ticket to the sold out show.) What an amazing show. So excited to hear that Lump was not just a one off side project and that they're producing new music and could be touring on it!

Been mentioning the tennis stadium for years on this site, and in questionnaires to Newport. Makes sense consider they have been using it for Jazz for quite some time.
I think someone asked who was scheduled for last year. Everyone has been invited back and many accepted. I opened the concert app which had been showing the 2019 schedule, and it quickly switched to a list of announced names from last year. I had forgotten so many. James Taylor has also promised to attend. And one I know who bailed early is not included. Good start.
