As for who is playing, aside from the announcements so far, let's not forget that EVERY act from last has been invited back...James Taylor has said he will be there...I'd start with that list first, including some early drop outs that didn't make the final announced lineup last year.
Invited back isn't the same as playing. Two pretty big acts from last year absolutely aren't playing this year.
And where did you see that about James Taylor?
JT made an offhand comment on the Newport livestream last July saying something along the lines of "When the festival comes back, I'll be there". I don't put much stock in that. Plenty of artists performing at the festival say things in the moment on stage like "See you next year!" as they leave the stage - only to not show up the next year. I guess it wouldn't really be surprising to me either way whether he's there or not.
Upcoming Shows: August 7: Green Day/Smashing Pumpkins/Rancid/The Linda Lindas August 30: Waxahatchee/Snail Mail/Tim Heidecker September 17: Pearl Jam/Glen Hansard September 24: Idles/English Teacher

Exactly. I don't think this needs to be that great (lineup-wise) if they really have some cool activities, workshops, and a much lower attendance. I am not worried about having a great time. I just want to temper expectations of people thinking that they're going to go to see David Crosby tell you a tale about his grandson then cut next door to hear Neil Young play an acoustic version of Cortez.
If you bought tickets to this thinking it was gonna be some sick lineup, I think you're doing it wrong.
right. 2020 may have been the best NFF lineup for my tastes I can remember, but I wouldn't expect anything of that caliber this year
Sick can be relative though, no?
Phoebe + Lucy + Julien all being on the lineup playing solo sets and then a short boygenius set would be the “sickest” possible lineup for me.
But it’s nothing that I’d expect to be prohibitively expensive or impossible. Unlikely, maybe. It would simply take some coordination on Newport’s and the artists’ part. Although, what better time for coordinating schedules than when no artists have prior tour commitments?

So far, here are the confirmed acts that I'm aware of: Yola Joy Oladokun Devon Gilfillian's "What's Going On" superjam Allison Russell Billy Strings Steve Gunn and William Tyler (based on Insta response to Strawman) Shovels and Rope (based on looking for lodging tweet) Andrew Bird and Jimbo Mathus (based on Aquarium Drunkard interview)
Kinda....looks like they are selling single day tickets on Lyte...
This feel like a mistake and I’ll get an email saying “sorry, not a thing”. But Friday is the only day we could possibly swing so you better believe I put in for it.

Only William Tyler responded on IG right? Or was Steve Gunn part of that communication too? I know they were paired to play last year but wondering if there more to it than that? I hope it's both of them playing this year!!

On one hand, I want Newport to make money this year to offset last year’s missed revenue.
On the other hand, I hope they don’t keep increasing capacity until we’re back up at 8,000-10,000 per fest per day, with fewer stages and acts, and “intimate story-telling experiences” that end up not being intimate at all. That’s a little bait and switch, especially for those who are still concerned about being in close proximity of others who might not be wearing masks or vaccinated.

Bright Eyes, Lucy Dacus, Waxahatchee playing Brooklyn 7/31, looks like.
Yeah I've had tickets since the last show got postponed due to covid. I need to see if they're still valid. I think so. Hope so cuz I got seats with the back in the front row directly across from the stage. Looking forward to this show.
Looks like I'm going to be at Forrest hills a lot this summer. This show, MMJ x2, Brandi carlile, and possibly Wilco/sleater kinney.

Man this is great news. Although I can’t seem to find where to find your place on line, are they not doing that anymore?

William responded to me asking if both he and Steve would be back, on Newport’s post about collaborations

The group and I did not get tickets this year we were on the fence and ultimately decided to try for next year. With that being said- my first concert experience may be Brandi at forest hills. Does any one by change have her presale code that would want to dm me!?
