I’d see Stevie and Jimmy because I never have and Niles And Chic would be great but Weekend 1 works out much better for me. Now to full on decide if we can swing it.
In for weekend 1! Dead tickets are way too expensive right now so this is an awesome and cheaper alternative to the tour dates.
I'm hoping for a 3 hour set like they did with Phish in 2014. I also prefer Weekend 1's headliners by a lot. Luckily Lettuce w/GZA and Soul Rebels isn't until 10pm that night (Saturday weekend 1).
Rest of the lineup is to be released next month. Also I’m hearing it may only go to 6pm this year.
Niles Rodgers and Chic making the festival rounds the past few years has been such a blessing - will always check them out regardless of how many times I've seen them before, they always put on a great show and who knows how long they'll be actively touring.

At a minimum I want to go the day Dead and Co play. Seems like we are fairly confident they'll be Saturday? Just based on tour dates math or do we have other sources?

Otiel posted a graphic on the date of Deadco tour release with 10/9 listed as Jazz Fest but quickly took it down.

That's top 1 act for me going into the festival as well. No chance I'm missing that show after how much I loved their 2018 tour. I usually go about 3 festival days, but I could see going 4 or maybe even 5 depending on how the days line up. I'd love to see Black Crowes again, but depending on who else is 1st Friday will probably determine if I go that day. Ideally they'd do something like Ludacris > Wu-Tang w/Soul Rebels Friday or Sunday, and there's no way I'm not going to that. And you already know all the big shit will conflict, so it's hard to tell until the dailies come out.
Overall I feel like the lineup gets a B+ considering the festival was reduced 2 days and also will be an hour shorter than in the past. There's a shitload of midcard acts both weekends I'd love to see or see again. Excluding the tributes, I've probably seen about 52-53% of the performers. I've never had a problem leaving the middle of a headliner set to go catch a couple songs by other BNA's like Stevie Wonder or Anita Baker or Stanley Clarke or anyone I felt the need to go pay some respects to and then make my way back to what I was primarily there to see.
What I haven't seen from the top several lines that I'd love to see: Wu-Tang (only seen RZA, GZA and Ghostface); Stevie Nicks; Norah Jones, Elvis & Imposters (<-- why doesn't the dictionary have this word?); Isley Brothers, Nile Rodgers & CHIC, Rickie Lee Jones, Chris Isaak, Hurray for the Riff Raff.
What I have seen that I'd love to see again: Dead & Co., Foo Fighters, Black Crowes, Ludacris, Ziggy Marley, Brittany, Randy Newman, Tower of Power, Big Freedia, Terrence Blanchard & E-Collective
So that's a lot of "loves" to see live. The rest of the lineup that I know (95%) is still "likes" which I'm not even going to bother posting except to support my grade. And of course there's still like 200-300 more local and international acts that will fill out the other 12 or 13 stages not accounted for specifically in the lineup. I think they did pretty well. If they'd have been able to get The Who back for October (will most likely be back in April) it would have been higher.

Curious why Brandi Carlile didn’t make your lists. I’ve only seen her at festivals but she always puts on a great show
No reason - just an inadvertent omission. I love Brandi. She got #2 on my Top 10 Voodoo list for 2019. (edit to post it should have been “at least likes” since Rebirth, Galactic and a ton of other shit on there I always love)
Little bit of a down the road question - is it expected they go back to the old dates for next year?
Yeah. Last weekend of April and first weekend of May. Edit to say May 1st is the Sunday of the last weekend in April so outside chance it could start that weekend.
This is my first Jazz Fest. Looked at a schedule from past years and was a bit surprised that a festival ends at 7pm lol. The conflicts seem to be hefty too. Is it pretty much set that Foos and Wu-tang are playing at the same time?
Logistical question - Four of us going, so shuttle is $88 per day. We have a rental car (with a sober driver). How feasible is parking near the fest?
in my experience the line for the shuttles leaving jazzfest are terrible. do not recommend.
you can park in city park for free. behind the museum, the parking in the drive leading up to the museum is typically reserved. it's about a mile walk to the sauvage gate IIRC. so a decent hike but also a ton of fun because you are walking through a beautiful neighborhood and people are out there cooking and eating and drinking and stuff. very lively and the excitement builds as you hear the music from the festival getting closer. this is what we always do. also when you go into the sauvage gate you pass by the gospel stage first which should always be the first thing you hear at jazzfest.
if you choose to look for neighborhood parking be very careful. the parking laws in new orleans are arcane and hard to understand. by design i think, good revenue source for the city.
or you could prepurchase parking at cabrini high school. close to the sauvage gate but expensive. we park there for voodoo but it's cheaper than during jazzfest.
edit: got my gate names wrong
edit 2: for picture. park in the circled areas, walk the red line to the fairgrounds:

Yes. And it's going to end at 6pm this year (see below).
The main acts all play around the same time though the biggest name for the main stage usually gets longer sets. Assuming both are Sunday (?) Foos would go on at 4 and Wu-Tang probably 4:45 or 5 depending on how long of show they are going to do. At the same time, whoever is the "alternative" closer will be on the Gentilly Stage (+/- Which Stage at Bonnaroo or Chevy State at Hangout - still a main stage but on the other side of the festival). Then you'd have whomever is the premier jazz,r blues and gospel performers in those respective tents as well as the Zydeco headliner will be on that stage.
What you should know is that the festival is a daytime festival. Since they're shutting down at 6pm this year, I'm assuming they'll open the gates at 10:30 or 11:00. What's usually more important to me are the night shows and overnight/all night shows. There are a lot of musicians in town even if they're not playing the festival (for instance String Cheese isn't playing this year, but Jason Hann is listed on collaboration shows). So there will be sit-ins at just about every major show. I want to say Longinus posted a few years ago that he saw Jacket or Mule with like 30+ guests a few years ago. There isn't much stuff up at the moment, but these are your best sources for the night shows.

It can be complicated if you don't know the city well. Behind the Fairgrounds by the LSU Dental School (which is the back entrance to get in) usually isn't targeted too hard by the cops and meter maids. They'll ticket or tow anything they can on those days. But there are places along the way within a few blocks that will charge $20 or $25 to park. Cabrini High School is one of them. That usually sells out in advance as it's ticketed. There are other spots along the way. By afternoon it can be difficult to find parking. The other possibility is that you can park at City Park for $x each day and walk the half mile or whatever to the festival. I don't know how much the parking is at City Park or if they have shuttles from there included or not. We always walked to the festival or biked it. There is a site (jazzfestforum.com) that may be able to help you. I'd check in at "Everything You Ever Wanted to Know about Jazz Fest" forum instead of the Jazz Festival Forum itself. Here's the link to the list of sub-forums: www.jazzfestforum.com/

i don't think we have ever paid to park at city park. that drive going up to the museum is reserved for some group, but behind and around the museum is a free for all i think. some days more people are parked there than others but we always find a spot not too far from the museum without an issue.
but it's been a couple years since we've been to the fest proper, it's possible something has changed. but i'm not really sure how they'd handle paid parking in city park since it's just open from all sides and it's huge.

You doing the Turkuaz with Jerry & Adrian or the Turkuaz (plays Turkuaz) show? I think many of them are in town for the bulk of the two weekends as I've seen Shira Elias' name pop up on several collaboration/superjam shows so far.
My weekend 2 is mostly accounted for. I'm doing Turkuaz w/ Adrian & Jerry (Fr), Disco Biscuits (Sa), Disco Biscuits (Su). Weekend 1 still has some wiggle room. I have a ticket to Lettuce/Soul Rebels/GZA for Saturday and will likely try to catch moe. that Friday since I haven't seen them in person in a few years.

Regular Turkuaz set for Friday weekend 1. Looking at Lettuce, The Soul Rebels, and GZA for Saturday. Also, Grateful Gospel on Sunday.

Was planning to do Galactic 10/9 but looks like it sold out. Was trying to wait for day lineups before purchasing just in case D&C was another night. Y'all think there's any chance there's another drop or prices show up for a reasonable price on the secondary market?

For the Galactic show? I don’t know. They own Tips so you can always hit them up for a guest list spot.
For the festival, they usually don’t sell tickets for the day. The single ticket is good for any day that weekend. Only time that is different is if there’s a special day like what they were supposed to do with the Stones a few years back. Thursday’s sometimes too, but they don’t have them in ‘21.
