I didn't realize that Cruel World has different curfews on saturday and sunday. saturday goes until 11 and they just extended sunday from 10pm to 10:45. maybe that's why set times are later than JLH since each day will be slightly different?

Nice to confirm a 2023 rendition for CW. Not going this year, but I definitely thought about it.
Back on the JLH note, The Shins have been counting down to an announcement this Thursday with map-like artwork in the "Oh Inverted World" art style. They released a 20th anniversary remaster last year, and with new music from Mercer projects being pretty scarce in general these days, could we be looking at an "Oh Inverted World" tour, maybe including JLH as a last-minute sales push? Might just be wishful thinking with such short notice, but I guess we'll find out in a couple days.
Feel bummed for buying tickets for $175 for both Cruel World and Just Like Heaven. Both fests have artists who dropped out without a replacement. It'll be fun this year, but resale all the way next time.

Looks like my schedule and bank account are gonna keep me out of JLH and CW this year… JLH is still a possibility if a super low price ticket pops up, got my price alert set so we shall see.
It’ll be interesting to see how TANP ticket prices go after seeing the prices drop significantly for these other two. I paid full price tier 1 for TANP but I ain’t mad if they drop. The lineup is stacked for both days for my tastes, still a bargain in my eyes.

Cruel World: I think I'll be at the outsiders stage all day Saturday and then bounce between the other stages on Sunday and leave after a Blondie for the long drive home.
Bummer about Echo and the Bunnymen but happy there will be a 2023 edition!
What other bands do you think are possible for CW 2023? The Cure, New Order,… who else?
Lets start with who didnt make it this year. Echo and The Bunnymen, Gary Numan, Marc Almond and Bad Manners should be assumed since they said echo was good to go. I dont think they would do the Cure cause they had a fest with them already. If they were gonna make a big splash then Depeche Mode is who they would want the most. That would easily guarantee a sellout without much else on the poster. OMD, Pet Shop Boys, Andy Bell, Human League and X come to mind. Nation of Language, Special Interest, a Johnny Jewel side project or Italians Do It Better bands, Zola Jesus, Alice Glass and even The Faint would be solid newer groups to get.

I think Depeche Mode would not only cost too much, but would be above playing an all 80s fest. Moz is way cheaper. I think it’ll be New Order.

Its at the Rose Bowl, they played there for 101 which is a big fucking deal to the DM fandom here. So something with that connection would be great since they didnt even bother to try and celebrate 30 years and its 35 years next year since it happened. I mean OMD and Thomas Dolby opened for them at that concert. So you sell them on that and to get some of their contemporaries from the time, you dont say its an 80's concert since you have current synth/goth/dance/wave acts on there anyway. Dave and Martin live here anyway so they dont gotta go far and its easily 2 days so you can pay DM the millions they dont need.

this seems like a good list. The Cure (and Depeche Mode) seem too big for the festival ,but they would be perfect, and they did play Daydream in the same spot, so that would be perfect.
maybe someone like She Wants Revenge, Molchat Doma, Killing Joke, Tones on Tail/Love and Rockets/Poptone, Dead Can Dance.
Maybe they get B52s on the end of the farewall tour, but they might be a bit too poppy?

"Oh Inverted World" tour is official, and while it doesn't mention JLH or Pappy's and it's missing LA on the itinerary (probably adding a date when JLH finishes), I'm starting to get optimistic we're getting it. I might be team "Chutes Too Narrow" in the Best Shins Album battle, but you won't hear me complaining!

Those venues seem a lot different compared to their last tour. I don't think I want to see The Shins at the Civic Theatre in SD.
