Hey, it's been a while. This year was SO INCREDIBLE. I had an amazing time.
I missed a lot of people. Tame, Rezz, Cannons (BIG SAD), Jai Wolf, and left early Sunday so missed Porter and CloZee (sob). That being said..
My top 5 sets:
5. Megan Thee Stallion. What a surprise, since every rap show I've been to has generally been not great. She has incredible stage presence. She looked like a dream and spit fire. Super impressed, and she owned that stage. I was formerly questioning why she was a headliner but now I see why.
4. 1788-L. Aquachobee stage's sound sucked all weekend but for him it was actually decent, and WOW he threw down.
3. Haywyre. What a fun, funky, colorful romp. The Here tent was perfect for the set, accompanied by bubble lasers!
2. Two Feet. They freaking SLAPPED. The band was tight, and dude's guitar soloing on every song was that edge I needed. My husband thought he was wearing a Louis Vuitton vest the entire time lol. Vocals were okay, and the guitar was a bit too loud, but it balanced out with how excellent their musicianship was. Very VERY solid, with great trippy visuals on top of it. Loved it.
1. Deathpact. Good effing GRIEF. I did not know who they (he? she? was one person, masked, I'm just going to say "they") were until they were booked to replace Sam Gellaitry. I have heard good things, when I say they absolutely blew me away... I was not expecting what I heard. They mixed many different electronic styles and it was HEAVY but carried you, almost seemed to drop you, then threw you back into insanity. I cannot say enough great things about that set. It was an intense journey. In my top 10 sets I have ever seen, no exaggeration. It was THAT good.
Honorable mentions: Elephant Heart, A Hundred Drums, Washed Out, Caribou, Ross from Friend, Rome in Silver, DRAMA, Danny Daze, Abelation
Biggest disappointments: (I only have 3, the music overall was great)
3. Eprom. I blame the shitty sound at Aquachobee. All I heard was bass. He was probably good but I don't know.
2. Black Carl!: I heard so many good things about him but his set was weird. The beginning was nice and easy but then he started to throw weird shit into the second half after Griz ended. I blame it on scheduling, I'd like to see him again.
1. The Glitch Mob. Boyyyy am I pissed. That was not a Glitch Mob set and you can't tell me otherwise. I've been a huge fan since Drink the Sea came out, and have embraced their many changes to sound. I had a feeling it would be a DJ set since I saw there was no Blade setup, but this set was... break beat? Idfk, it was all very fast paced messy whatever-the-hell it was that teased some classics, and when I thought they would get into it... nope, more boots and cats. My friend, also a big fan, was with me and we were just looking at each other like, "ok... when's it gonna start?" It didn't. Maybe I'm being too hard but it was so freaking disappointing. I left early to catch Deathpact, and I can't believe I'm saying this but I'm sad I left Lab Group to go see them. *steps down from soap box*
Vendors were astronomically expensive. $16 for ice, $18 for a normal sized food plate. I easily spent $300 just on food, a hoodie, and a bandana. So that sucked. But they added flushing porta potties (with TP and attendants) in some areas so that was cool. Sound was great except for Aquachobee. Downgraded on some extra scenery in most areas, but added more in Jungle 51.
It felt more "corporate," but whatever, they're a business. TONS of little kids and service dogs, in the middle of packed crowds too, which was unnerving.
Overall everyone seemed very nice, cool, and our group had no issues. I do feel horrible for those whose well-being and safety was threatened. That's inexcusable and Insomniac damn well needs to do something about it. Background checks go a long way.

Glad A Hundred Drums was good. She seems like a really cool DJ that isn't afraid to drop some Dub with the Reggae and other beats. She's on the really would like to see list for Buku - assuming an afternoon set for her somewhere. I got to watch Ross from Friends which was pretty cool with the 3 guys up there working the boards. I thought it was one dude (pretty sure), but maybe that was the live with friends version? Enjoyable. As for the Glitch Mob set, yeah, that was different and not what I was used to seeing from them the last many years. It was super super fast. They do some faster shit even though glitch isn't anywhere up there in the bbp range. Seemed to be way up - like maybe a lot of it over 140? I can't count, but so much of that set was just ba-da-da-da-da-da-da-da in fast forward. Last comment, and thanks for the recap Frida, was that we just got announced yesterday we were getting Lab Group and then a late show of all them individually at the Of the Trees aftershow. Even though you left, there's some stuff on YoutTube from Okee in 12 or so minute increments (like Parts 3, 4, 5). Set went a lot of different places. I'm kind of excited to see the collaborative barring conflicts. Gracias for the report.

No prob my friend. Go see Lab Group. My crew said it was very good. Yeah Glitch Mob was exactly how you described it, lol. So confusing and a mess for any old school fans. My sister-in-law loved it! She thought they were good. I told her, "Nope" lol. I forgot Of The Trees, they were also good. Have fun at Buku if you're going, wish I could make it this year. A Hundred Drums is one to watch in the future. I think she played at noon for an hour and a half? Terrible slot but she sold it for me. I was also admittedly 7 sheets to the wind the whole weekend lol so I am reporting what I saw when I saw it if ya know what I mean. I will admit though, I feel like I'm getting too old for this shit. They did stack an excellent lineup with new artists I want to research and listen to. I didn't really feel like camping for a specific artist. Because of that I appreciated it very much.
