making ted's shortbread this morning since we're finally gonna start the season today. will provide updates if they change my life.
Are you using the recipe that has almond flour?
i'm using the one from the new york times that is supposedly what leaked during the apple event as the legit recipe. problem is they only used the first half of the recipe because it's technically for a brownie shortbread, so i'll have to adjust the cooking time. cooking.nytimes.com/recipes/1020851-bittersweet-brownie-shortbread

Agreed with all, this show is great. I thought season two started slowly but enjoyed the christmas episode, and one of my fantasy football teams is now called The Rom Communists.

While I don't think the 2nd season is near the level of the 1st season, this is still must-watch for me. I do think a lot of the episodes seem to have some pretty ridiculous stuff happening, from a football fan's perspective, but I realize that not many people care about that
I feel like Roy Kent is the easy answer when there are so many great characters on the show.
i hear you but it's the easy answer because roy kent is great.
keeley is my second favorite.
i'm also a big fan of jamie tartt. i know he was a bastard last season but even then he was fun to watch. much more fun now that he's turned the corner. i love how he's just kinda dumb. not like super dumb, but just dumb enough. the actor who plays him nails that aspect.
rebecca is also fantastic and fun to watch in every scene she's in.

Coach Beard is my favorite but Sam is a close second.
Do you want to dance while also thinking about all the ways you've failed as a human?

I really, really dislike the Sam and Rebecca romance. I feel like it is SO FRAUGHT with bad power dynamics. They establish she's his boss, and that's a big one, and it absolutely shouldn't be waved away. She's also a posh, exceedingly rich white woman and he's a Black immigrant in a country that, while it probably does better than the US, still doesn't necessarily treat its Black immigrants with incredibly open arms.
I get that they're likely trying to subvert the usual norm in which we see much older male characters romancing much younger female characters, but I dunno...if the genders were reversed and all the above remained true, I feel like we'd all be kind of icked out by it. We certainly were meant to be icked out by Rupert and "new Rebecca," but it seems like the show absolutely wants us to root for Rebecca and Sam's pairing.

I hear everything you are saying, but on the flip side, I think it's complicated and maybe we are just supposed to view it as that.
She is wealthy but Sam is successful in his own right. Making money with lots of earning potential in the future. So it's not like he is really dependent on Rebecca for his career, he could easily leave Richmond and find success elsewhere.
So yeah it's not "right", like I said at best it's complicated, at worst it's problematic, but irl no relationship is simple. I've incorrectly judged couples both ways IRL. In the end all that really matters is the happiness of the two people involved. And sometimes you gotta take a chance even if it could end in disaster.

With the news that this ends after Season 3 (at least that's the plan), I'm sort of wondering big picture arc here. Also, I need more egomanical Nathan in my life, or at least the episode. It's what he'd want too.

I just...no.
Totally get this. And you are not the only one that feels this way.

I think the writers have a couple of really strong, excellent female characters on this show. There could be a few more, but Keeley and Rebecca (I want to call her Bex) are both fantastic. I've seen this talked about on Twitter so this isn't an original thought, but it's really great that they are giving Rebecca a romantic angle, especially with a younger man. And then all of your comments about the power dynamics come into play and make the particular man she is involved with problematic. I don't love it either, but at least it wasn't Ted?
What is this show similar to? Is it like a 30 Rock?
Not as frenetic as 30 Rock. It's a Bill Lawrence show (cougar town, spin city, scrubs) so it feels more like a traditional sitcom. The joke per minute ratio is pretty high, but it's got loads of heart. Not too many cut aways or flashbacks, each scene tends to move the plot along. Feels like they wrote the story then weaved the comedy into it.
roy kent hugging jamie was a powerful moment, but it could've been more powerful if we'd had a more recent reminder of how tumultuous their relationship used to be. it's been a few episodes i think since they "made up" and Roy started coaching him. so if i'm a showrunner, instead of having the plot line this episode with Roy and his niece (which are always wonderful in a vacuum) i would've had something that reminds us of how Roy really doesn't like Jamie, so when he goes to comfort him it would've made the hug more impactful.

The Jeff Tweedy version of the theme song The obvious homage to “After Hours” The pants (I need those pants) The hula hooping at the rave So fucking good
I am a strong disliker of season 2. Has lost a lot of the magic for me (but kicks in from time to time)
I don't feel like this is uncommon, but I think it's really just a flesh out the world season w s3 will be a lot more heavy and meaningful bon a plot level
