"Post apocalypse" is a subgenre of science fiction.
(Not to be confused with zombie apocalypse, which is fantasy because a) returning from the dead is supernatural hooey no matter what sciencey words they put around it, and b) everyone fantasizes about shooting their neighbors with crossbows at least once, and zombification offers us permission to do just that.)

Yeah, I know. It's speculative fiction about the fall of civilization and that's all it really needs to qualify. Not really any other staples of the genre, which is fine but from the list of whats left it's funny to point out something else as lacking.
Damn, y'all really love The Matrix huh. It's a cool Sci-fi movie but knocking out Inception and Terminator 2 is crazy to me.
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind was probably my favorite movie on here but still don't think of it much as a Sci-fi film so whateves.
Why don't you consider Eternal Sunshine to be sci-fi?
It just seems like the overall, the story was more about the relationship between the two main characters and the "science" aspect wasn't the main concept of the film. When I think of sci-fi movies, the science fiction part is kind of the main theme of the movie. The only science related aspect to "Eternal" was the procedure they had done, which was an obviously important part, but the film didn't revolve around science fiction... idk tho, maybe just me.

It’s far more sci-if than Mad Max.
Inception is nowhere near either of those movies. Likes it’s not even worth discussing it further.
Lol fucking autocorrect
To each their own... I liked The Matrix quite a bit when it first came out. Didn't really ever go down as a classic to me over time tho. Inception was great, idc.
Science fiction explores human actions and relationships under conditions that are altered by technology that doesn't exist. That's what Eternal Sunshine does.
Do you want to dance while also thinking about all the ways you've failed as a human?

OK, Blade Runner, but only if we're talking about the director's cut w/o the voice-over narration.
I just think it's a more complete film than Terminator, which has a great concept and an iconic performance by Arnold, but falls down in other areas, in my personal opinion.

As lackluster as Ford's v/o narration was, it did sort of guide the narrative in an easier to follow way for the casual audience. But I do prefer the Final cut. The Terminator is definitely my favorite James Cameron film, but I'm sticking with Blade Runner.

Damn usually I go with the better all around movie which Blade Runner is but Terminator holds a special place in my heart.
So I think of it this way "If I'm channel surfing and I come across both of these movies already on, which will I stop and actively watch?"
In that case its probably Terminator but I don't know... Blade Runner is what I think of when I think of a Sci-fi movie, it has the moral and ethical dilemma of classic sci-fi that I love. Terminator is an action movie with basically "bad guy is bad" situation.
But I've watched Terminator at least 25+ times and I never get tired of watching it. I have to be in the mood to sit and watch Blade Runner and I've probably only seen it 5 or 6 times.

Never liked Blade Runner but I would say it's the better movie compared to Terminator. Terminator is okay, but Blade Runner is definitely the more advanced sci-fi movie.
Not sure if my opinion counts, just discovered this thread.

Terminator is about the ethical dilemma of "if you were sent back in time to protect the mother of the savior of the human race from a killer robot, would you smash?" For a lot of men, including our hero, the answer is yes.
