Second LA show sold out also. Although the resale market on some of these dates seems inflated. Still though, had some friends who thought they couldve bought a ticket at their local venue box office next week and they just got hit smack in the face with this.

Assuming the tepid reception they gave the James Blake album rules him out. He seems like a pretty logical and gettable headliner in general though, and they booked St. Vincent after trashing Daddy's Home so anything's possible

I mean its been a long while since he has played, much like St Vincent. But is it a question of being fine with him headlining or just thinking about who could be at the top that isn’t too far fetched? Last year I was bummed they werent able to get Kraftwerk despite the signs that they were going to be in Chicago that weekend for their tour. Having an electronic headliner would be really cool especially a Kraftwerk 3D show. Either that or getting Darkside would be a huge get. I doubt Lolla could steal that away from Pitchfork.
Lets just throw some names out there aside from the original 3 headliners for 2020.

I had tickets to see Nick Cave and Weyes Blood in Chicago last year but the show cancelled due to COVID. Would love to see one or both of them at the festival next year to make up for it

Other potential headliners:
War on Drugs Bon Iver/Big Red Machine Lana del Rey (may be too big) Bright Eyes Fiona Apple (not likely but oh please) Khruangbin Carly Rae Jepsen Grimes Vampire Weekend The Chemical Brothers Anderson .Paak Janelle Monae Gorillaz (also probably too big) Father John Misty Nine Inch Nails (likely would do a Riot Fest makeup instead but would be kinda funny if P4k poached them) Spiritualized ROSALÍA The xx LCD Soundsystem (fuck it, let them play every year for all I care) Lorde Björk Underworld Young Thug
If some of those names seem impossible, please bear in mind I removed both Frank Ocean and Radiohead before posting this
Yeah, TWoD seems like a pretty good choice for a headliner. Same with Anderson Paak, I was actually thinking about the possibility of ASAP Rocky the other day after those RHCP dates got announced but he’s definitely too big. Anderson would make a lot more sense barring him touring with Silk Sonic next year.
I have my list of other potential legacy headliners/subs/etc. in the other thread. Not digging out the whole list but for someone who’s always around Snoop Dogg would be fun at this.
Here's a way too premature mock. I tried to sprinkle ideas from everyone in the thread. It feels like there are fewer rock bands on this than there will be, but one hard part of looking ahead to next year's lineup is that Pitchfork has been rather stingy with BNMs this year so there's not an abundance of immediately obvious bands to pick from. Anyway:
Mitski · Big Red Machine · 100 gecs Floating Points · Saba · Deafheaven · Squid Leon Vynehall · India Jordan · Wiki & Navy Blue · Kedr Livanskiy Arooj Aftab · Yasmin Williams · Jana Rush
Diana Ross · Jazmine Sullivan · Noname Jehnny Beth · Joan Armatrading · MIKE · Dry Cleaning · Mach-Hommy Dawn Richard · Jeff Parker · Illuminati Hotties · SPELLLING Cassandra Jenkins · Ganser
The War on Drugs · Japanese Breakfast · Spiritualized Rina Sawayama · Westside Gunn · Channel Tres · Mdou Moctar Tirzah · OHMME · Lingua Ignota · Indigo de Souza · Loraine James Soul Glo · Sen Morimoto
I’m hoping its Wet Leg vs. Dry Cleaning playing. There were a few crossovers from P4K to P4K Paris this year. Fingers crossed they were a late add to Paris this year puts them more likely for Chicago next.
Plus they’re skipping Chicago on that small US jaunt in December.

I don't think Wet Leg will be Pitchfork darlings the way Dry Cleaning are now, but they're obviously building up a big following over here and in the UK (I've seen then talked about a lot on eFests) so who knows. also, ironically, your comment made me realize that I forgot to include Tirzah on my mock; I swapped Erika de Casier for her, though ofc I wouldn't mind if both made an appearance here.

de Casier is one of the 3 I was most excited for seeing in Paris. I can see that being a name on the lineup, too.
I think everyone is waiting on an album before they go all in.

This feels like the summary of their BNM-category this year so far, tho I love it. Diana Ross is kind of odd, but given the Isley Brothers headlined before (tho the reception wasn't that good iirc?) and Lauryn Hill before that (even though her catalogue is not 'that' old yet).. It also kinda makes sense I guess.

The reason why I picked Diana Ross is that the ‘legacy’ headliner of the past 4 years has always been Black (ATCQ/Lauryn Hill/Isley Bros/Erykah Badu); I was trying to think of a headliner no one had thought of and while browsing P4K’s “Fall 2021 Albums” list found they had discussed Diana’s upcoming album. And honestly for all our talk of like, Missy Elliott playing this festival, Diana seems more likely given she’s been playing Ravinia for years.

If they go into the legacy well again it probably ends up being Earth Wind and Fire. Theyre from Chicago and outside of Herbie Hancock or Common the list for long standing Chicago acts is really small. Lingua Ignota rescheduled her Chicago show for May, but its sold out so it might not matter.

Yeah, I mostly included Diana just for a headliner that wouldn’t be unreasonable but that nobody had really been talking about; EWF was on my original legacy list as well.
as part of their anniversary, Pitchfork posted a list of 25 artists to watch; nearly everyone on this list is an artist who just played the festival or an artist we’ve already speculated on here. But there’s a couple that seem like obvious choices to play who we haven’t really talked about (Angel Bat Dawid) and some who aren’t but who would be really fascinating bookings (Blood Incantation)!
