If I can find a couple other folks to help me save grits, I'll move to oatmeal since I know the one I'm on right now is certainly not getting eliminated anyway lol

I was on cereal (which I like, but apparently, I like all breakfast foods because I wouldn’t turn my nose up at anything on this list), but I can switch to oatmeal because I agree that it would be better for oatmeal to go out first than grits. I will order grits sometimes when I’m out somewhere, but I’m never ordering oatmeal because that’s boring (although I will make it at home on occasion because it’s easy).

oh yeah, cereal is boring as shit--but like, it is fine. Not great but fine.
I have made some good oatmeal before but it takes EFFORT. it is a whole process that includes the right amounts of cinnamon and agave/honey plus fresh fruit and cooking it just right, and blah blah. Grits is clearly superior (also I'm def savory>sweet, which is relevant here I suppose).

i ate a lot of oatmeal in college because it was so cheap. couple spoonfuls of peanut butter and some cinnamon and it's pretty tasty. mix in some diced apple for a little bit of crunch. been years since I've eaten any though.

Yeah, I feel like grits and oatmeal are almost equivalent. Like, either way, you have to dress that shit up. Nobody here has sung the praises of just eating grits by themselves.
Also, I want a separate entry for biscuits. At some point, I'm going to be forced to vote against them because they're paired with gravy (gag), and that's going to hurt, because biscuits rule.

Gravy is wonderful. When I was little, my grandmother would make biscuits and gravy, and sometimes, I’d get done with the biscuits and go back and just scoop gravy on my plate to eat with a spoon. My gravy is not quite as good as hers was, but it’s close.

Some of my fondest memories as a child was my grandmother making us oatmeal. None of that boxed bullshit, real rolled oats, milk, fruit, brown sugar and love cooked on an open flame. But I get it, love is worse than nasty ass grits. Whatever.
I always judge any restaurant that serves breakfast by how good their biscuits and gravy are.
I do the same, and if they don't even have it on the menu? They don't get my hard earned breakfast dollars. Not going out for breakfast is one of the things wifey and I hate most about the pandemic (after, you know, needless death, isolation, politicization of a virus and then its vaccine, and all those other things that are detestable).

I do. A teaspoon of brown sugar. That's it.
Meanwhile gritties are all 'you just need to add salt and pepper and hot sauce and eggs and meat and scoop out the grits and throw them in the garbage and it's perfect.'
