The oatmeal hatred here is outrageous and I'm somewhat shocked.
look, oatmeal isn't bad. I wasn't on it til I realized grits were about to be wronged so viciously, and so early.
Oatmeal is fine just like cereal is fine. But it doesn't stack up to most other brekky options on the "appealing meal" scale. And I love oats! They're just better in non-mushy form...

edit: EXACTLY Jim Watson - these people are heathens with terrible opinions. not that i should've expected anything different...
my fave way to have grits is with butter (Earth Balance nowadays but used to do normal butter, once melted they taste about the same) and Violife chz and then sauteed garlicky mushrooms on top.
if that sounds like a bad breakfast time to you, i have no words.
All arguments on here for grits are what a wonderful dinner option it is. This says breakfast foods. Be honest. You guys don’t eat grits for breakfast.
I'm sorry your grandmother didn't know how to make breakfast right. I am sure she loved you in her horribly flawed way.
I was thinking more like her grandmother was fancy as fuck to do all that for breakfast.
When I was a youth, I reached an age where I could sufficiently see over the stove. My papaw asked if I wanted to learn to make eggs. My head filled with the promise of being big enough to use the stove, so I immediately said yes. He showed me the step by step of making scrambled eggs. At the end, he asked me if I followed along and felt like I understood how to do it. I enthusiastically nodded that I had. He then told me that this was good, and if I ever wanted eggs for breakfast again, I could do it myself and not to ask him. Growing up with people that grew up in the Depression was different. Haha.
Grits is a porridge made from boiled cornmeal. Hominy grits is a type of grits made from hominy – corn that has been treated with an alkali in a process called nixtamalization, with the pericarp (ovary wall) removed. Grits is often served with other flavorings as a breakfast dish. Grits can be either savory or sweet, with savory seasonings being more common. The dish originated in the Southern United States but is now available nationwide. Grits is often part of a dinner entrée shrimp and grits, served primarily in the South.

when else would you eat a smoothie?
Uh, never? Who drinks smoothies as a legit meal lol.
You may hear a couple of different stories about this, but everyone really knows that True Grit is a 1969 American Western film starring John Wayne as U.S. Marshal Rooster Cogburn, Glen Campbell as La Boeuf and Kim Darby as Mattie Ross. It is the first film adaptation of Charles Portis' 1968 novel of the same name. The screenplay was written by Marguerite Roberts. Wayne won his only Oscar for his performance in the film and reprised his role for the 1975 sequel Rooster Cogburn.

This pile of shit you boil for two hours, then fry for an hour, then throw in the trash.
Edit-I forgot. You can make nice art installations out of them when they harden.
You can fry grits?
ok so, with the leftover grits, before they cool, put them into some sort of dish with squared sides (bread pans work great), and press them flat, put them into the fridge. The next day or whatever, remove the solid brick of grits without breaking it up, and slice it about a half inch thick. Fry those little slices in some bacon fat, top with either salsa or maple syrup, and thank me later
Imo a smoothie is something you eat/drink on the go and not as a legit meal. But worse than the mixed fruits and vegs is probably "fruit". So many bad options..

whats wrong with on the go? thats a factor that makes it a better breakfast option, not worse imo.

the prompt doesnt specify that each of the items should be considered as a full meal on its own, or else something like sausage loses value because id want more than just sausage
