But no way in fuck would Daze have had a 3-4 month long presale at $100 for a top lineup like that!
I think Phil and the DD production team are locking on a lineup so good they expect it to instantly sell out, given the amount of time they have between now and the show. The die-hard fans bought passes at $100 because they didn't care about who would show up. The people who DO care about the lineup are the ones who will be providing a bulk of the revenue.
It would hurt the festival's credibility and long-term prospects if they made us all wait months for a shitty lineup to come out...And it would likely be the last Desert Daze.
Probably doing this one solo and with gas prices I don't think I want to drive down 18hrs from Seattle. Is flying into LA and renting a car there the move?
Ontario is closer and would probably be the better airport. Are you camping? If so, might be able to skip the rental car and pay for an expensive Uber there and back to avoid the cost of the rental car and vehicle pass.
I would say...the only nice thing about potentially renting a car is you can also use it as a "tent" if you don't want to lug around your camping equipment. You can sleep in your car if you purchase the car camping pass, but obviously, it won't be as comfortable as camping out in a tent.
Also, Ontario Airport and John Wayne Airport are easier drives than going to DD from LAX!

Yeah, that's not really how those guys work. This is pretty much an every year thing

Shit, last year I thought I wasn't going because it was a month of shows until it wasn't
I know I'm not going to be disappointed, because Phil isn't going to all of a sudden discover pop music and drastically change the festival. But it's still frustrating.
And until the lineup drops I'm always going to worry it gets cancelled

I highly doubt the lineup will be considered shitty or even mediocre if they don't end up having all of the acts BernieSanders posted - Portishead, The Cure, Tame Impala, King Gizz, Kikagaku Moyo, Bjork, Thundercat, Sky Ferreira.
Daze just never has had anything THAT stacked in the past, and I doubt they would have something that top heavy this year. Cut that list of headliners/subs in half, and then you got something more along the lines of what we should expect.

But Tame Impala, Death Grips, Mercury Rev, Warpaint and Ty Segall were announced in March. There were 202 days between the headliner announcements and the festival date.
I'm sure more than half the crowd (but this is just my opinion given the crowd for Tame) that attended that year bought a ticket because of those headliners and I believe that year they had around 15K people for the entire weekend.
This is my point: The festival is 116 days away. Whatever the lineup looks like, I think they are expecting to sell roughly the same amount of tickets in a shorter amount of time, given the power of the lineup.
Given the "rumors" that Tame Impala, Bjork and King Gizzard might appear at the festival, that would hypothetically make sense. But we won't know until the lineup drops.
What does new BCNR sound like? I don’t think I’ve heard anything yet.
Just saw them at Primavera. The three words I'd use to describe are theatrical, emotional, and light. A lot of the songs were very quiet with some nice crescendos. I enjoyed the fact that the crowd knew how to be quiet for the quiet moments. Felt like a better show to see at a venue than an outdoor festival though.
i liked it but i miss the oomph from when they had isaac in the band. really bummed to never be able to see sunglasses or basketball shoes live

I've been attending the fest since 2016, so I'd be shocked if even 3/8 showed up from that list. This just isn't that type of festival.
I personally don't believe the Tame Impala rumor. His booking fee is apparently between $1-3M now. His arena shows sell about $2-3M in tickets and has entire touring crew behind him. Unless it was a special "Lonerism" anniversary show on-off without his official touring setup, I just don't see it happening.
Unless Kevin Parker just wants to play as a make up show due to that canceled performance. He might just be eager to return because of this fest’s reputation amongst Tame’s peers. But what do I know, I’m just a dummy.

You’re mixing years here. Tame was 2018. They were announced in March, along with about 20 other acts. The other headliners weren’t announced until May (King Gizzard and Death Grips) and July (My Bloody Valentine). In 2019, Stereolab and Animal Collective were announced in February. Then Phil went quiet until late Spring, when he began dribbling out an artist a day, including Flaming Lips. The bulk of the lineup didn’t come out until August—including Wu-Tang, Devo, and Ween.
There will be a lineup. Some people will be really psyched, some will be putting their early bird tickets up for sale. But I think the last few years have shown us all we’re pretty clueless when we try to read Phil’s mind.

Nah man -- I wrote that Tame Death Grips, Mercury Rev, Warpaint and Ty Segall were announced in March. I didn't even mention the other headliners. I bet you Tame Impala accounted for a big part of why a lot of people went to the festival, which is why everyone was upset when the show canceled lol
Regardless, I agree with you. This is all fun. Speculating on various reddit threads and forums is what makes it fun, as much as it drives people crazy. Phil and DD crew are masterminds. We're just too damn excited for this event!!

I mean if Pond is playing as rumored, they already have 1/5 of Tame Impala on board lol it can happen!!

Said it before but Tame Impala Sound System would be very rad. personally a bigger draw for me than a normal Tame set and wouldn’t bring in too many fans going just for them.
I’m fine with BJM being out. Seen them a few times now and while I love their music and live performances when they really lock in, Antonin is pretty insufferable. This last show at the Wiltern was enough BJM for me. Still love Joel though!

Yeah, I saw them in April and some songs were great, but they spent so much time dicking around between numbers that it ruined it for me. I left early.
