I think in my life I've always aspired to be the Chandler. Just a guy who makes snarky comments and shits on everything trying to be funny. I've mostly achieved that I think, but it comes with a cost because like Chandler, I only have five friends.

five friends is a lot, especially five really good ones. Most people would kill for that.
Curb is better than Seinfeld. Don't listen to any mental gymnastics from Potent trying to frame the restrictions of network TV as a point in Seinfeld's favor. If any human on earth watched the prime of both shows fresh today for the first time, they would take Curb by a mile.
The thing about Curb is that they shouldn’t have done the last few seasons and it’s really hurt the whole thing for me. It was a show that we would watch at least once a year or so, but we were just talking in the last week about how neither of us really has much interest in watching any of it again at this point. It feels tedious, the same thing over and over. Now that I think about it, we haven’t even watched the most recent season. The two before that were enough to completely dull any interest we had in watching any more of it.
The last couple of seasons of Seinfeld weren’t stellar, but they were fine and they don’t just take the whole show down several notches like the last seasons of Curb have.
The Simpsons has been bad for near 20 seasons now and it still would clean house if it was eligible here
Decided to come up with a list for Shows That Are Always On At The Nursing Home Survivor so that I can quickly get that idea out of my head:
The Bold and the Beautiful CNN Deal or No Deal The Drew Barrymore Show Gunsmoke Hot Bench Judge Judy The Kelly Clarkson Show Leave It to Beaver Let’s Make a Deal Live With Regis and Kelly Martin Matlock Maury Meet the Browns The Parkers The Price Is Right Tamron Hall The View Wagon Train

I didn't know any of the bolded shows even existed. Drew Barrymore AND Kelly Clarkson have their own TV show? I am assuming talk show. Yeah and I watch a ton of tv, just not during the day.

Just joking around. I have a great group of friends, including you guys.
If the way you think about it is to compare the worst of each show, then I get that. I haven't even liked Curb since the first half of Season 8 and have a lot of theories about what went wrong. But for me, Curb could release 20 more terrible seasons and it wouldn't change the way I feel about those first 7-8 seasons. I look at artists discogs the same way. Kanye could release 20 shitty albums in a row from here and it doesn't change the fact that he already released more quality shit than basically any other artist.
The way I think about shit is to compare primes though because ultimately I want to know the amount of total value I got out of a show / artists / etc. And to me Curbs prime is so much more funny than Seinfelds and it isn't close.
What's your favorite episode of Seinfeld, so I can tell how seriously to take you?

Yeah. Drew Barrymore brings a decidedly deranged energy to her show and it’s honestly a great show to have on in the background. Kelly Clarkson isn’t super exciting as a talk show host but she does a cover song at the end of every episode and they’re pretty much always great. Only other one really worth mentioning is The Parkers, a pretty funny if generic sitcom that Mo’Nique starred in during the early 2000s. (Weirdly, I have never seen an episode of Moesha, the show it’s based on, on a nursing home TV.)
I’ve worked in one building that had MSNBC always on in the lobby and about five patients ever who regularly watched Fox News, and only one of them was actively watching and was also weirdly critical of it. I saw a tweet that once said cable news is basically a form of elder care in America and CNN is keeping more older people entertained compared to just about anything.
any HIMYM stans want to make the case for the shows greatness?
The show did a great job of world building, having runners and recurring jokes that would disappear only to be expanded a season or two later.
Their casting ended up being pretty inspired, too. Josh Radnor is whatever but Neil Patrick Harris' character has a lot of dimensions to it. Jason Segal and Allison Hannigan make one of the better, more believable TV couples in modern sitcoms. Having Cobie Smulders leaning way into being Canadian was a comedy goldmine.

i completely forgot that the Drew Barrymore Show was real. i always go back to this SNL skit which helped me find out that Drew Barrymore does indeed have a TV show.
any HIMYM stans want to make the case for the shows greatness?
I'm not a stan, but I think the main cast had a great balance in character traits that made it easy to see why they were all friends. It was an inventive way to tell a story at the time (even if the conclusion was horrible, and we should ignore the last 3 seasons). It resuscitated or gave a second life to NPH's career, and launched Jason Segal. It had some great musical moments, and touched on experiences that I think we can all relate with our own friends about - weddings, super bowls, etc.

The show was very consistent and over the years built up a ton of running gags (Robin Sparkles, Slap Bet, etc) and classic TV moments and sayings. The Bro Code, Legen wait for it Dary, etc. The plot was very thought out and each detail was carefully planned and greatly executed, the yellow umbrella, duckie tie, etc.
It has a unique narration style that allowed the timeline to shift and for flashbacks etc to be told smoothly. The show also has two of the single saddest moments in any sitcom I’ve watched, except maybe that Scrubs episode. If you’ve watched the show, you probably know which two I’m taking about.
It’s easily watchable as a comfort show and if you want to be engaged with it. There’s a lot of recurring characters but the narrations allows for casual watching.
The show did run for too long which was the fault of the network but most shows on this list did too. Most didn’t like the ending but I did.

That’s fair, and in part, I do agree. The last seasons of the Office, 30 Rock, Seinfeld, and Parks and Rec all had declines, and I’m not really judging them on those so much as the overall quality of the shows. There are several seasons of Always Sunny throughout the show that are not very good at all, but I continue to love it as a show. And I didn’t even make it through the second half of the last season of Arrested Development, but it still will rank pretty high for me.
For me, it’s different with Curb. It’s just made me so over Larry David in general that watching the earlier seasons no longer seems enjoyable or even tolerable really.
For the record, too, I’m not anywhere close to voting for Curb at this point. I still recognize it as superior to a number of other shows on here, but it won’t rank as high for me as it would have six years ago.

Regarding post S3 arrested, I for the most part don't like it, but it does have one of my favorite TV jokes of all time. The ed helms realtor bit when he keeps selling extras with the pitch "because then you'll have it". Melody and/or I say that to each other at least twice a month. It works for so many situations. We use it to justify appetizers a lot.
