World class entertainment, world class food, amazing natural beauty available with a short drive in any direction. Vegas is great.
Plenty of downsides keep it from being the greatest city of all time but it's a city that will make you feel something, whether that be awe or disgust, which is more than I can say for some of the cities on this list.
worst city on this list is very obviously Baltimore
It’s way better than Phoenix or Charlotte, good arts scene, unique local vibe, decent food, cheap living, iconic cheap beer. Don’t think it’s top 10 but Baltimore is great.
I do think it's top 10 personally, but go to Lexington Market, Faidley's, and get a crab cake. It's market pricing of course so when I went last year at the height of crab shortages, it was like $33 or some shit but it's an amazing sandwich.
RIP San Francisco, Dallas, Jacksonville, Buffalo, Pittsburgh, Austin, Orlando, San Diego, Asheville, Memphis, etc; y'all should've tried being the premiere city in your own state
Also RIP Indianapolis, St Louis, Cleveland, Birmingham, Little Rock, Boise, Albuquerque, Milwaukee, Kansas City, etc; y'all should've tried being interesting
1. Pittsburgh is the premiere city in its state, Pennsylvania can't help but have 2 Top 3 cities in the country, we're the birthplace of America baby.
2. Memphis is way better than Nashville.
3. Kansas City is definitely an interesting city.
I think Teddy is just jealous eating Alabama BBQ that he doesn't get Memphis pork ribs or KC burnt ends.

I lived in Las Vegas for a very brief while when I was a kid. One day during gym class I kicked a piece of garbage lying on the soccer field that I didn’t realize was a condom and was relentlessly mocked for it for a brief while. Not sure how to feel about that.

No city is more fiercely itself on this list than New Orleans. place isn't a unique city its a different goddamn planet. i'm biased because i've spent so much time there, but pick almost any random spot in the city and plop yourself down there and you're like "yeah i'm in new orleans".
i haven't spent a ton of time in Denver but i've been on a few trips there and i think it's a great city. incredible amount of ice cream. very much a big city with all those amenities but i never get those big city hurried rush vibes when i'm there, just seems more chill. maybe it's the thin cloud of marihuana smoke constantly hovering above the city.
i thoroughly enjoyed the one trip i took to seattle. this was several years ago but it was pretty easy to get around on public transport, lots of natural beauty (hard to beat views of mt rainier in the distance). it was summer when we went so the weather was incredible, but i understand winters can be super gloomy.
i have never been to honolulu, philadelphia, minneapolis, portland, or boston. but of all the cities i've been too i don't actively dislike any of them.
NYC clearly the winner, and possibly will be the overall winner of Survivor Survivor.

Sorry but if I’m in Baltimore I’m getting my crab fix at Nacho Mamas.

Yeah, I would never really want to take a vacation in Las Vegas, but living there is actually not bad for all the reasons you said. There’s a ton of stuff to do and excellent places to eat, and the hiking is outstanding. I’m absolutely not one to say that Las Vegas is the best, but it’s far from the worst.

Yes, the shows are great. I've never been impressed with a meal in Las Vegas, and every one has been overpriced. Of course there is natural beauty around it; it's in the Southwest. I'd rather go to pretty much any other city in the Southwest. I just find the whole place tacky and depressing. I imagine the people that live there happily probably avoid the tacky, depressing places, but those are the places the visitors go.
Are there cities on this list that are worse? Probably. There are cities on this list I've never been to because I've never had the desire to go. But of the cities I've been to, Las Vegas is the one I dislike the most.

I've been to 18 of the 20 cities (not Honolulu or Portland, though Portland will be rectified as my inlaws live in Seattle, so we'll get there at some point).
I think these cities are broadly in "good" and "bad" categories, but you can find good stuff in all of the "bad" cities:
Good - NYC, LA, Seattle, Denver, Philly, New Orleans, Chicago, Minneapolis Bad - Nashville sucks, Charlotte, Miami, Phoenix, Las Vegas, Boston, Atlanta, Houston
I can't decide where to put DC. All of the stuff about the seat of american government have obvious benefits and also problems that outweigh those benefits. It's a good food city. The people are generally insufferable.

I have always said that my favorite cities are ones that you land blind folded, take the blind fold off while standing in the middle of the street and immediately know where you are. This can be about architecture, culture, the people, or a major waterway.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

not sure you have been since 2020, but it has really really struggled since the onset of COVID-19.
I'll also throw my vote for G&M crab cakes but that just be family nostalgia talking

Eh I haven’t been to any of these places since the onset of covid so not trying to hold that against folks
Didn’t expect all the Charlotte bashing when opening this thread up. Coming from someone in the Asheville area, Charlotte is not that bad.
- Has good pro sports options with NFL/NBA/NASCAR/MLS/prob the nicest baseball stadium that is not MLB/minor league hockey. I wish Asheville had a few more options other than minor league baseball, which we almost lost a few years ago when they did the realignment because of how old our stadium is.
- The Charlotte Metro Amphitheater is a nice venue for summer shows and well located in the city. It can hold a little more than Rabbit Rabbit in Asheville, and Rabbit Rabbit is just a massive parking lot that they turned into an outdoor venue. The backdrop is traffic going through downtown. I won’t complain since I’m an Uber away from the venue but I still know which is the better spot for a show.
- Charlotte is pretty kid friendly with having Carowinds and the Discovery place.
Lot of the comments on Charlotte is true - there’s not much character/culture to the city at all. There is also nothing really unique to the going out/exploring the city thing. For overrated cities - DC takes the cake for me.
