Raleigh is almost half million by itself, Durham up around 350k. were these not considered big enough for some reason? just curious what the measure of size was to be qualifiable here.
i am one of like seven people saying the selection is unfortunate.
Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.

it's more that no one cares about those places/they're not iconic at all.
it is quite literally the first or second fastest growing metro area in the entire country but ok

dont tell me what to do!!!1!!!!!1!!
LOL.
I guess the point is, he's not going to reboot the survivor so that the Research Triangle can get voted out in the third round instead of Charlotte. Demanding accountability other than 'Charlotte is a bigger metro area' is just kind of a whatever. I suspect that Asheville would've made the list before the triangle anyways.
(Incidentally, I loved living in Chapel Hill. I did not love living in Greensboro but it wasn't the worst place I've lived.)
If you're going to make a case for a barely-city, cultural center like Asheville, then you need to include places like Savannah or Charleston. I think it's clear it's just big cities with major metros and sports teams.
for people who care about live music as much as people on this board do, having 930 Club, The Anthem, and Merriweather Post in one metro area is probably the best small/mid/large venue combo for any city in the country
Atlanta has venues like that plus some.
I cant stand pretty much every live nation amphitheater, except The Gorge, and the only 4-6K cap GA venue that I have been to that I think is good is The Anthem. Idk I havent been to the Roxy out in white flight county, maybe that is good for you Atlanta folks.

haha yeah im not asking him to restart this survivor game on our music nerd forum of which results mean next to nothing.
i thought survivor threads were a safe space for candid opinions though? so i was giving mine. that's all.

As someone who has only been to maybe three of these places I feel more than capable of telling everyone they’re wrong and the place where I live is the best
it's more that no one cares about those places/they're not iconic at all.

Raleigh is definitely cooler than Charlotte, but it prob wouldn't last long either. I enjoy downtown Raleigh and the area has a great reputation for academics, but its just not iconic. Basically, I think you're right that it could've been Raleigh instead of Charlotte but I don't think it matters cause either one is getting voted off very quickly

asheville >> durham >>>> raleigh >>>>> charlotte
but yeah, none would've won. again, i was merely stating my opinion and then planning to move on from it lol.

It's low for me. I assume everyone ranks these cities based on their personal experiences there? The worst moment of my life (non-serious category) was in Boston and I vowed I'd never go back, a vow I broke for 22 hours to go to Fenway Park to cross it off my MLB stadiums list but will never break again.

I am shocked everyone is so quick to give NYC the crown. I’ve lived here for almost 15 years and I would put Portland at the top of my list. This place breaks your heart as much as it gives you a good time. As my boss says, it’s a bad boyfriend

Was going to make a stupid joke post about Gainesville, FL not being included, but now I'm thinking we actually need a college football stadium survivor so the Swamp can win

wait, is everyone?
i certainly wont be voting to keep NYC in til the end. it deserves top 5-7 probably but that city stresses me the fuck out
as theo said, fun place to visit but no way i'd want to live there

I've been to the majority of these but missing some pretty major players: NYC, Chicago, Denver, Vegas never been to. Seattle is probably my #1 of the ones I've visited and Nashville and New Orleans are pretty high up as well. Minneapolis seems like the one that will scoot by to be a bubble top 10 cause no one has a strong opinion on it. They have a nice airport.

The Swamp sucks.
This hurts to read, but I'm okay because I know you are wrong

I don't know. Asheville would win any small city contest unless rubes with agendas were working to screw it over. There's probably not many better small cities in the nation if you like doing outdoor shit and being outside like I do (nod to Savannah as well). I've only driven past Charlotte and stopped in Raleigh to go to the NC State Arboretum. Never been to Durham. I likes Ashville and would consider living there at least part time if I could afford it in retirement.

I saw it at what I assume is one of its peaks - after a national title, Tebow's Heisman season (2007), packed house, 3:30 CBS game vs. Tennessee. Maybe a night game would be a bit different but I can't imagine there are many better games to see.
I understood why it's called the Swamp, it was miserable weather wise.
I was the last Vol student in the Vols section behind the Vols bench (like 3rd row) and the Gator dude sitting next to me was super cool. The Gator gal sitting behind me kept harassing me by elbowing me in the head (among other things, but that was the objectionable thing). It got to the point where my new Gator pal next to me got her and her friend thrown out without me doing a thing about it.
It was close at half, I don't remember the score, but I think first drive in the second half the Vols stalled at midfield, downed a punt at the 1, and Tebow came out and threw a bomb that Harvin caught for 49 yards. It was so deflating, the Vols got blown out the rest of the way, final score 59-20. Brutal.
totally valid to hate boston proper but you gotta admit we have some of the best italian food in the country
Oh for sure. Mike's Pastry was the best cannoli I have ever eaten in my life and La Famiglia Giorgio's was the first time I ever picked the better meal and holy shit that shit was amazing. It was also the first time I had prosciutto and I am a fan.
