Was updating my Big Ears playlist (linked below) and noticed they added Kate NV as well. Not quite as exciting as OPN or billy but listening to her new single now and digging it
Initial venues and times for most artists are in the page sources. We're clearly getting at least a couple more big artists (only one act scheduled for Tennessee Theater on Sunday, although Frisell will probably wind up there) and all four acts Sunday at Knoxville Civic are scheduled concurrently which will obviously change, as well as a couple of other overlaps. I'm still organizing this spreadsheet but take a look, it covers everyone on the dailies. Zorn at the Bijou Saturday-Sunday again. Well-themed days at the Knoxville Civic, doesn't seem like any more space on those slates. Excited for Grouper in a church.
Your spreadsheet is amazing. I can stress about what to watch months earlier than usual! I feel like this year is particularly dense. I have a conflict in virtually every time slot, every day.
If anyone can explain how it's possible to do this fest on a budget I would love it
I’ll go more in-depth in a bit but the bottom line is rent a car and stay outside of downtown. I booked a place for $250 for 4 nights vs $1200 in staying downtown. It’s an easy 10 minute drive and a Waffle House next door.

Also consider flying into Nashville (BNA) instead of Knoxville (TYS) for a better deal on airfare. Knox is about a 2.5-3 hour drive straight on I-40 from BNA.
Apparently Allegiant offers a direct flight from MSP to TYS, but only between April and August which wont do for the purposes of attending Big Ears. Only other airlines flying in there are United, American, or Delta. Southwest flies direct from MSP to BNA.
Flying in to Asheville (AVL) may be another option. Sun Country and Allegiant fly there direct from MSP.

I saw that and screamed a little. In addition to a solo set, I’m thinking we might get a Brass set with her and billy woods. It was supposed to go down at Le Guess Who? this year but she canceled last minute.

Dang - I was completely unaware of the collab. That would make a lot of sense. I don’t even know why I look forward to more announcements. I have conflicts at virtually every hour of the entire festival.
Moor Mother added. Not sure which day she’ll be playing though.
Now give me that MM & Billy Woods set and my weekend is completed.
Premier finally sold out but there’s still Sonic Explorer passes left. GA is still on tier 1. I could obviously be wrong as they’ve added capacity but this feels like it’s taken a bit to get ticket sales this far.

I’m not sure it was a tease but I’d be super happy if it happened. I know she’s playing a festival in the Netherlands this year but past that, I know of nothing else.
There is an RSVP event announcing their "MAJOR NEW EVENT in Knoxville" scheduled for January 31st. I am very curious as to it ends up being.
It’s that curated event the brought up a few weeks ago, I’d bet. Curious to see what that entails as well. Chances of me doing another festival this year is slim to none but possible for next.

Doing a more detailed dive into the lineup and think I slept on Terry Allen both last year and this year. Really digging his songwriting. Thursday is definitely gonna have some conflicts

Terry Allen and Sparks were my primary reasons for getting passes last year, and then terry cancelled. I’m glad I’ll see him this year.
The only names I know this year are Simon Joyner, Matt Espy, and Macie Stewart. Simon has been around forever and a day. It pairs well with Terry Allen, imo. I haven’t heard Macie, I don’t think, but know she’s played with Ken Vandermark. Espy is the drummer for Dead Rider. Gonna do a deep dive later today.
