Long time no see.
1. While Zorn in the Bijou was a great pairing last year, I'm glad to see that they've convinced him to move his performances to the Tennessee, so that capacity will no longer be an issue.
2. Somewhere in there, an Iron & Wine/Andrew Bird collab will definitely be happening.
3. While I'm stoked for the lineup, I've surprised myself to not have any genuine must-sees (save perhaps Painkiller and Cobra). This actually relieves some stress from working out my own schedule!
4. This year my adult nephew will be joining me in the escapades. Name's Fintan. Dude's 20 and makes my eclectic listening look like TRL.

I think that was my "hmmm..." response when I saw the list of the "big" names this year. I was hoping to see two or three names like Ryuichi Sakamoto, John Cale, Magma, David Sylvian, Aphex Twin, Squarepusher, Boards of Canada, Brian Eno reading a cookbook, etc. etc. Instead I saw Los Lobos, Iron & Wine, Rickie Lee Jones, Calexico. All talented-as-hell artists, but not the kind of genre-pushing musicians that I've come to expect with this festival.
With that said, I've always found that the artists I was most excited to see didn't end up being my favorite shows of the event. Those post-festival top picks always ended up being "new-to-me" artists. I'm expecting the same this year. Also, I concur... if this fest was nothing but "OMG" artists, the conflicts would kill me

^^^Yes, I'm with you. I'm as excited for this year as ever, AND I'm finding the absence of "must-sees" a welcome relief to my schedule planning.

Has anyone heard what's happening with Varispeed Collective's performance of Robert Ashley’s Perfect Lives? The app is listing it as Sat at Midnight - Midnight w/ no location... I'm really interested in catching this event!

All of the "movements"/episodes have times associated, and The Bar is being performed at Jig & Reel at 11 PM but on Friday. Assuming other performances will be at 11 AM (in a park), 1:30 PM (in a bank), 3 PM (in a grocery store), 5 PM (in a church), 7 PM ("the backyard"), and 9 PM ("the living room").
... and a conversation about film scoring w/ Son Lux! I wish they'd take advantage of Thursday afternoon to show some of these films. And if the first two films for Saturday were swapped in order, more people could see it ("Contemporary Color" doesn't end until 12:15 and the music on Sat starts at 12:00). Conversely, if they started with "This is National Wake" it would end at 11:30am.

I think I managed to get two people to join me (one new to the festival), but I can definitely take a brunch break! Don't plan around me, but right now my schedule is open up until 11:30 AM on Saturday & Sunday.

Everyone is welcome.
We used to be obnoxious at Moogfest with the panda stuff but this is a more laid back group.
E: Except LLL. God only knows what she'll be in to.

Not going to the festival bc I got kids that weekend, but I wanted to rep my current fave brewery in town at Pretentious Beer Company. I don't know what all they got planned for each night aside from dueling DJ sets on Thursday. One person is playing stuff outside. One is playing everything inside. If i know anything about the guy inside, it'll be a lot of metal and west Memphis rap. I have heard Earth and Project Pat albums in their entirety while he was working. He also guaranteed me Lana Del Rabies will be in there somewhere. If you're in to fancy things, they also make all their own glasses next door and have a variety of glass for sale. instagram.com/pretentiousbeerco?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=

This is understandable but your presence will be missed. If they're doing those free shows at Southern, I'd look into them. Might be something the kids might enjoy.
Pretentious is on my short list for "gap fillers". I'll be on that side mostly anyways.
I know some folks selling a pair of VIP tickets if anyone knows someone trying to find a pair. Im tentative for brunch, my SOs parents will be in town but I can hopefully swing it.

Thanks for the tip. I was curious if there were any beer nerds in the group. I’ve seen where Suttree’s used to host a bottle share, pre-Covid. Anyone know of anything like that happening?

Would be very into it but gotta think that'll be something Zorn-related

I have no real inside info on anything. I will say that I know Son Lux's manager lives in Knoxville and used to work for AC. Given that, it wouldn't be a shocker if they did a little something extra for the festival given the extra connection, but that's purely a guess.

So Friday is gonna be fun for y'all.
"Join Knox Pride, Indivisible TN, and Change TN Friday 3.31 at the downtown Hilton for a rally. Governor Bill Lee will be attending a lunch at the Hilton and we want him to see and hear us!!
We are planning events throughout the day with more organizations as well. We will add more details as they come.
We need everyone to come!!! Trans Lives Matter, Drag is Art, Queer Tennesseans have rights!!!!
Schedule the day off, take a sick day, call out, but be there!!!"

Is the marathon is Saturday, too? Parking is gonna be fun that weekend.
Absolutely no idea. I’m not really familiar with anything going on that day apart from his stuff. Might just go watch his movies. I’ve seen True Stories a million times, but never in a theater. I’m open to other suggestions though.
