Are Blink 182 an amazing band? No. Are SkrillTetAgain the best DJs? No. Was that an incredibly cheesy and fun way to end the weekend? You’re damn right it was.
One of the best weekends ever. I fucking love this festival.

so. returned after 7 years. had a run 2008-2016, and did both weekends since they started it (until 2016) 7 year gap. and now thinkin about another run of 5-6 years, and looking at both weekends next year yeah, thats how fun it was.

Man, there’s an alternate universe where Frank doesn’t cancel W2, and I have to deal with an hour and a half break after Bjork, and my night ends pleasantly in a low key way but with a lotta downtime.
I’m pretty damn happy that I got what we got instead. That fucking rocked. And I marvel thinking about telling myself ten years ago: “in time, you’ll watch Blink-182 and Skrillex close out the Coachella weekend and fucking love it.”
I saw and thoroughly enjoyed a lot of the iconic electronic sets this weekend but holy shit I can’t get over how fun Fred x Skrillex x four tet was. Once in a lifetime experience getting to see that kind of act close out the main stage.

For weekend 2 folks, how did you enjoy the crowds you were in at shows?
I went weekend 1 and would say I probably enjoyed the crowds the most this year out of my 4 years going (2 weekend 1 and 2 weekend 2). Last years weekend 2 crowds weren't super chatty, but a lot of shows even near the front it appeared that people were comatose or unsure of why they were there.
if you watched that PHM set and can call it anything but iconic I think you have an entirely different definition of the word than anyone else
it is funny though. i’ve talked to a few people who were at the frank set and two people texted about me about the set last night. None of them are “online Coachella” people, but they go every year. Every person liked Frank’s set and they aren’t crowning PHM’s set as iconic
Top 10: 1. Magdalena Bay 2. Björk 3. Gorillaz 4. Charli XCX 5. boygenius (half set, prob would be higher if full 6. Frank Ocean 7. Bad Bunny 8. Ethel Cain 9. Romy 10. Jai Paul
biggest regrets are seeing Blackpink over Underworld, Jai Paul over the entirety of Rosalía and half of boygenius, and Eric Prydz Holo over Labrinth or Nia Archives
Top 10: 1. Chemical Bros 2. Björk 3. Gorillaz 4. Frank Ocean 5. Jai Paul 6. Keinemusik 7. 2manyDJs / Despacio 8. Porter Robinson 9. Overmono 10. Dinner Party
Frank is the one who cancelled Weekend 2. I don't see how this is on GV at all
I’m not saying GV is solely responsible. They are far, far less responsible for it than Frank. That being said, it seemed like they had their mind made up going into Monday about switching him out. I get why they did it and I understand it was probably what was best for business. On top of it, they got some pretty huge names last minute, even if they didn’t really appease Frank’s crowd in a meaningful way. That being said, I guarantee they had a robust contract with Frank that made it exceptionally hard for him to bail given his history. Fans bought tix to see him and the expectation was that he would show. They knew how mercurial he can be going into it and didn’t like when they got what they bargained for to an extent. They also know that seeing him is a pretty huge deal amongst his fans and that we are delusional enough to trick ourselves into enjoying the weekend 1 show over blink/phm. I just feel like they could have worked with him or hard pressed him to at least give the fans the bare minimum
why would they want to close out their festival with the bare minimum from an artist who is super shitty to his fans and didn't even want to be there, when instead they could (and did) replace that shit show with an absolutely incredible electronic trio that is hitting hard internationally right now??
Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.

the vibe i'm picking up with all the scuttlebutt is frank was a pain in the ass to deal with. the ice rink shit, not allowing livestream, etc. you can imagine months of conversations and negotiations, likely with poor communication from frank and his team, and the stress that put on various peoples at GV wondering if any of this was going to happen at all, given frank's history of cancellations.
as such, i could see monday morning the GV powers that be acting emotionally and just saying fuck that guy, give me Four Tet's phone number. that sounds like it's one hundred times easier than trying to encourage Frank to perform a concert.
Mostly because I want to be able to watch the streams W1 and plan my days according to what I liked/didn't like on the stream. I don't necessarily need to feel "surprised." Example: if I would have been able to watch Jai Paul's stream W1 I would have known I could have just stayed at Rosalia W2.
Same. If I would have watxhed the stream W1 instead of attending…
Would have picked Rosalia > Jai Paul
Also would have done Underworld->Labrinth over Blackpink->HOLO

Only catching two songs of Rosalia's set is easily my biggest regret of the weekend.
Yeah I will give W2 a slight advantage on "the vibes."
Didn’t mean to step on your rational and tangible reasons for weekend two. Im not even a vibes person, but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t feel vibrations this weekend. A buddy of mine flew out from Detroit last minute, got a ride at the eleventh hour from LAX when he saw someone else with a wristband in the airport, and has been sleeping behind a different group every night in a tent someone gave him. It is a feeling out here. 3/4 of our neighbors just came over for a goodbye hug when we got back to camp. I’ve never met these people and probably won’t again.
I think if you're camping, you're always gonna meet cool ass people regardless if it's W1 or W2. The three guys camped next to us started coming to sets with us by the end of the weekend. Two of us had brunch with them on Monday morning.
1. Labrinth 2. Frank 3. Gorillaz 4. Calvin Harris 5. Blink 182 6. Jai Paul 7. Chem bros 8. Kenny Beats 9. Metro Boomin 10. Diljit Dosanjh
I ran over to Underworld during Blackpink,, stayed for 5 minutes and assessed it wasnt my vibe for the moment and ran back to blackpink. I do regret it, though I dont think I made the wrong decision for where my head was at. I hope they go on tour!
So anybody got any rips of any of the streams for either weekend? I have a decent catalog from 2017-2019 I can trade if that’ll motivate somebody to dm me a Chemical Brothers stream.
But also, idk if stream trading is allowed here the way it was on the old Coachella forum so feel free and delete this if you need to, mods.
