go ahead and drag me but I left their set early for Blackpink
The whole time I was at Underworld I just kept seeing a bunch of heads turning over to catch what BP was up to. I was just outside of the tent in the back left and there were lots of people sitting down, not rly dancing, just staring, chatting and kinda swaying. I stayed for about 10 minutes and it didnt sound like the song(s?) was progressing at all; I actually kinda felt like I was witnessing a time loop lol. In a way that show reminded me of Caribou from last year, just a lil more laser-y and rave-like. Maybe my headspace was off having come from Kenny Beats and Diljit Dosanjh lighting up the Sahara, but I just couldnt rly find my groove there.
It's my biggest regret of the weekend because I dont think I gave it a good enough shot. Was I not far enough in to get the real experience? Did I have to know their songs to appreciate what is going on? lol I already know I'm dumb, but am I also musically challenged? Maybe I just needed to be with cool people like yall who knew how to boogie to them
yeah the crowd was a lot of fun up front. was probably only 10-15 rows back and it was wild. a LOT of energy. was even closer for chem bros and the vibes at underworld just felt way better. dont think you should kick yourself for leaving for blackpink tho cause im sure that was a great set too.

if you didn’t like caribou either it sounds like you just don’t like good electronic shows which is okay!

Also saw Yves Tumor at Underworld so maybe there is something to them being less boomer than The Chemical Brothers since all the trendy people were there.

isn't Yves in their 50s?
Nah Yves was born in like 1990, but there still isn’t anything to Underworld being less Boomer than Chem Brothers.

idk how old they are I just know they're cool and cutting edge
Underworld looked like the set of the weekend from the stream. Felt like it would have given me the same magical feeling I had when I saw ghostland/presets 2009, modeselektor 2012, simian mobile disco 2013, bonobo 2014. But what’s funny is that I saw part of underworlds set in 2016 and it seems like something was missing compared to how this year has been talked about. I don’t even recall anyone calling it out as a top set of the weekend in 2016!
For those of you that may have attended both years, care to share what was different from underworlds set in 16 v 23? was it merely a function of the set times?
Went to both and enjoyed this year's more. I think the later set time made a difference. I also think that the more minimal "Mojave" version of the tent worked MUCH better for Underworld than when it was Sahara back in 2016. Both materially improved the vibe IMO.
That was my hypothesis. Thanks for confirming. Underworld also seemed to be locked in and very crisp from the stream. I can’t recall 2016 well enough to say They were or were not then. I caught like 2-3 songs before I headed out to catch my group so can’t really give it a fair assessment.

15+ years of Coachella and Underworld was the best crowd I’ve ever been a part of. There were folks around me waiting for Labrinth that went from “the fuck is this?” to “OMG THE FUCKKKKK IS THIS?????!!!”

Two Months Off live was even better than I thought it would be.
I really don't like using the word "magical" to describe moments but I really can't find any other word that fits.

I LOVE Caribou's studio albums but his live show was just a lil too much for me; I kinda got overwhelmed with how loud the drone noises got.
But anyways, I think I'm going to drive out for Movement's 3rd day to catch Skrillex / Bonobo / Kaskade Redux / DJ Seinfield and this time I'm going to make seeing all of Underworld my priority. Do you have any recs for others on the bill that day I should maybe check out?

yeah it was not nearly this impressive from far back. Wish I got closer now
Wasnt that tough to get up there either cause edm bros have short attention spans. so 10 mins and a few effects is all it took for them to leave and go to something else. W1 the people behind me were losing their minds cause it seemed we were in the sweet spot for the screens.
